Nice to see Allegheny Motor Speedway (AMS) on the 2014 BRP schedule. I can't believe people are so negative when news this positive is released. I'll keep my hopes up until I see something to think this is not going to happen.

I wouldn't say people are negative. they are being realistic. I hope the track opens up and is nicer than it was before. That being said it is going to take a shit load of money for that to happen. Lets say it does open back up they are going to run Sunday nights again.?? And what classes stocks and modifieds??Wasn't that part of the reason they closed in the first place. No fans showing up ?? ;)

You are right in saying realistic. Most of these problems can be circumvented or remedied easily except for clay. Mr. Thomas seems like an extremely bright person and if he can get the clay back on the track everything else is should be easy.

couple days with a grader and equipment will do wonders. fixing the place up is a drop in the bucket compared to the investment to buy the place. he must be planning on contractors coming in, to meet his deadline all I can figure. I'm sure he has a plan, he can always push the date back for opening

Hopefully spring comes early. The weather will be the biggest factor provided he has the money to fix any electrical and plumbing issues, not to mention grounds and track work. Has anyone confirmed if the bleachers are still there or did it just look like the were missing with all the weeds growing through them? Probably going to need a few new boards if they are.

Here's a wild idea... As we all know, business is business, however racing is a love. If Mr. Thomas is really going to try to make a go of it, how about the racing family pull together to see what we might have to offer to pull this off. Maybe a local contractor will come in ad redo the plumbing, toilets, etc in exchange for some advertising at the track or something like that. Like I said, I do understand business is business so freebies are hard to come by. legend, you keep telling us of your decks... Maybe ther is some construction or repairs they could use and you could show off your handiwork in exchange for a little advertising or something. Just thinking out loud. It would really be something to see this track come back... And great for that area as there is very little there as well as ther is a significant fan base... So here we go guys... Anyone willing to put their time where their mouth is... And support Mr. Thomas' efforts? He may never consider the offer, however rather than fussing, I'd rather invest that energy into developing solutions to the challenges.

It sounds to me like they aren't planning a weekly program. I could be wrong, but the Summer series that he is talking about seems like a specials only format at the track. If he can pull of what he's advertised so far, those might be the 5 biggest shows in the history of the track.

The racetrack and grandstands are obviously priorities 1 and 2. Is a fully operational kitchen and a fully operation bathroom necessary for the track to open in May? Probably not. I'm sure that some sort of temporary arrangement can be made (port-a-johns and a limited concession stand) until construction is finished on more permanent solutions. As long as these things are advertised first, it won't be an issue. People can eat before they come to the track or bring food in if it's that big of an issue. People need places to sit when watching the races. Cars need a quality track to race on or they won't come back. If they can knock those two things off then they will be ok.

Half page article in the AARN this week sure sounds like the deal is done, if it wasn't I am pretty sure it wouldn't say what it says in the article. The man states he has the money to spend to fix and repair the place and bring it back to life. I hope he come through with everything he stated in the articles.

Just a related question- when was the most recent dirt track built in Western PA/Ohio? Roarking Knob in 97-98 ish? Reason I ask, there always seem projects to resurrect tracks like Tri-City, Jennerstown, and potentiallyPennsboro which costs hundreds of thousands of dollars. I always wondered why there aren't more new tracks built. Is it new regulations, lack of land, strict zoning laws, etc, or just cost to start from scratch?

I belive the last new track to be built in western pa was thunder mountain or lake erie speedway my opinion it would be much easier and less costly to reopen an existing track

in my opinion, Mike Thomas is going to be a good thing for racing in PA. If he's sticking with Sanctioning bodies for his races, it'll work out. That lessons the burdens of dealing with Rules, and guys complaining about the rules. I'm sure being the business man that he is, he'll have guys that do know what they are doing, run the track.
