FASTRAK Northeast Tour Race At....Motordrome???

Being an OLD man .....Back in the seventies when asphalt racing was last popular with Heidleburg and Sharon.. and Greater Pitt! Many drivers like Norm Benning senior and Bob Wearing senior and Herb Scott and Blackie Watt would run Learnerville dirt on Friday and Heidleburg asphalt on Saturday! Back in those days the cars were very similiar! All had fulll car frames and so on! Baisically set up and tires was the only difference! Today...the dirt chassis are lighter! Really not all that safe on asphalt! But I have posted before late last year that the only hope for these asphalt tracks to make is comeback is with some type of crossover car! Like the Old days! Because I don't beleive that the economy allows for enough cars to support the asphalt tracks! I am all for this! But lets controll the speeds so this is safe! I personally would of allways like dto try asphalt racing! But never wanted to do a Bullshit Nascrap car with the TEMPLATE BODIES AND ALL THE STUPID RULES! This could be the savior of lots of tracks! Hopefully somehthng can be made to work! Just my .02

Definitely want the racers to be safe and also not tear stuff up, for sure. So what about having a practice session or 2? Or, is it pointless. Just trying to do something a little different. Thanks :)

I'm pretty sure Dirt Late Model magazine did an article on putting a super on pavement. From what I remember, they had a hell of a time with taming the four link suspension. It was a real bear to set up to turn. I think they had tire problems too. I'm going to look around for the article.
Don't forget! Dirt is made for racing and pavement is for pussies. :P

I thought dirt was made for growin corn? Funny how NASCAR is ran on asphalt and not dirt - guess you will be staying home for those races then?

Outside of the lowest entry divisions no guy that runs asphalt is going to want to tear his equipment to hell running dirt- ESP. For a crappy payout(which was different than when my dad and his brothers ran some 60 years ago). Secondly to think the only way for asphalt to survive is to infuse it with dirt is ridiculous. What needs to happen is to have progressive management and a rules package that that keeps the cost of being competitive to a minimum. This is actually the opposite of what I see in dirt racing with high dollar everything. In addition people want to see cars that pretty much look like cars- a major issue hurting dirt racing for awhile. I go to dirt racing because I love all racing- this is a good novel idea if it is feasible for the division. It is a novelty at best though.

I'll be staying home for those races. I can watch them on tv. Don't get me wrong. I like NASCAR. When hey run the road courses. Unless it is a bull ring kind of track. Most speedway races are boring. Hell, Bubba-J could "turn left" all day long.
Dirt racing takes much more driver input/talent to drive. That is why I prefer dirt.
Oh! And you can grow corn in fromunda cheese! Just add water.LOL

nascar is a joke. everyone knows asphalt is for traveling to the dirt track.. :) besides....where do you think your beloved Nascar started???

No, I can't say I have. Nor do I care too. I can get the same thrill by driving a go-cart in a circle as fast as it will go.

What I really think fastrak should do is worries about the northeast tour races. Look at your schedule. No amr two at eriez. O at raceway as of now. Three at tyler. That's are big ass schedule. You have a total of two tracks left north of Pittsburgh. Don't look to good we will run them two tracks only because they are close. These other tracks you say are ne tracks are four hours plus one way. Also your dates on schedule are wrong for Eriez sweep weekend.

Five races were going to be held at Tri City Speedway or the joke that guy was calling AMS (Allegheny Motor Speedway). Now thats not going to happen. So there are five less races. I agree with Wildside also, focus on NE schedule not running pavement.

Yep...thats why asphalt tracks all over this country are Closed! No excitement! BORING! Cookie cutter cars! Low Horsepower motors that sound like a weed eater running! But hey all you asphalt people can put your Nascar patch on your jacket and dream you are better than everyone else! In your own little world ofcourse! Face the facts man....."The Rich and Famous went dirt racing because its Cool! Geeks go asphalt racing! But to each thier own! Thats why Tony Stewart will tell you...he asphalt races so he can afford his dirt teams! Dirt racing and its Stars have Character! They are the "Bad Boy of Rock&Roll" so to speak! And when Nascar lost its Bad boys...it lost all its attraction! Yes ....its still the big time...but for how long???? Dirt racing will never be the "Big Time" Because you get some dirt in your beer while watching! But it will allways be filled with a cast of characters that are attractive to fans! When Nascar lost Dale Sr. it was the beginning of the down turn! Nascar needs some exciting characters again like Tim Richmond! A guy that would spend the night with your wife and win on Sunday while you cheered him on! If you want to polish your racecar... maybe get a street rod! Just my .02

I think that it is pretty inconsiderate that you dirt trackers like to bash asphalt racing because its something you don't like. I don't see people that race on asphalt bashing your sport I guess asphalt racers are more respectful. until you have driven on asphalt how do you know how much talent it takes its not easy trust me. racing is a brotherhood all forms you choose the type of racing you like to do but at the end of the day its all racing what ever surface you run.

the point is dirt latemodels are not built to race on asphalt ,fastrak should worry about getting dirt tracks in pa. not having a race on asphalt it is a dirt series after all

I think real racers love any surface. I'm an asphalt fan but also hit the drags and dirt tracks whenever I get a minute.

NLMSS ran at Ocala Speedway when it was asphalt in early to mid 2000's. It was fun because we ticked off the asphalt guys because the dirt cars were faster than the asphalt lates. HAD to run asphalt tires, dirt tires just grind up. What basically ended it was some of the teams figured out if you ran the J bar from the right side of the car or ran the long style bar from the right to the left rear axle (behind the rear end) it was worth a ton of speed. Like anything else in racing you had to do it or weren't competitive, so car count dropped and they took it off the schedule the next year. They do look really good on asphalt, and the racing is a little bit better than standard asphalt fare, but not as good as dirt.

I'm an asphalt fan but also hit the drags and dirt tracks whenever I get a minute.



I'm with you on this. I'm mostly a dirt fan, but I do like hitting some asphalt races each year. I'm not so big on drag racing, but I do like road course racing. I think every race fan should get to Lime Rock Park some day.
