ATTENTION ASPHALT RACERS

TIME IS UP  - - - - In year one, I expected car counts to be low. I expected to lose money.  I did not go real heavy on fan promotions because I knew the "show" wasn't where it needed to be.

In year two, I made only minor changes to the rules and put out a very early and reasonable schedule in order to assure people that we were racing in 2014.

Over the off-season, I heard a lot of talk. But when race season came around, I had to cancel the first race due to low car count.  I moved the second race back a week to give racers more time to get ready. Well Time is UP.

Along with the ARCA Truck Series on Saturday, May 31st,  we will run Late Models, Street Stocks and 4 Cyl. IF we do not start at least 4 cars in the feature for a class, then that class WILL be Cancelled for the rest of 2014.

This is not a threat,  it IS a cold hard FACT. The Track is NOT CLOSING, I will continue to run the driving experience and the ARCA and Super Cup specials.

Gentlemen, Your Fate this Year is in YOUR HANDS.  I am not cancelling the class - YOU are with your actions or lack there of.

I would say so...I think they are expecting the Jennerstown/Motordrome boys to support the track...they never did before...and there are not that many asphalt lates in this area...

Nathan Russell the only one I can think of. Track hasnt been run as an asphalt track since 02, everyones moved on, gotten older, switched to dirt. J-town/Drome cars are going to stay there for same payout i would think with the cost of fuel. I checked out the Arca truck site and there were 10 trucks at the first race most of them being from Ohio and Michigan. Hope they get a good turnout for them.

It's a real shame, but I agree that the old asphalt people have moved on...some to sprints, some to dirt lates...the new owners really should have done some research on this...regular gas is $3.85 a gallon...diesel is $4.19 a gallon...the asphalt cars on a weekly basis aren't coming...the only way they can do anything here is with specials...the Craftsman truck series or the Nationwide series would do well...I know this is a lot of $, but that is what it is going to take...people will come and watch that stuff....I guarantee they will...

Racer111 - thanks for posting.  I wasn't sure that I wanted to post my letter from the website, so this way I did not have to.

As for asphalt and dirt - the Clearfield area is definitely very pro dirt.  This isn't a bad thing it is just the way it is for now.

I love asphalt racing and have no plans to stop doing it.

 

As for payout:

Dirt Pure Stocks would be equivalent to an asphalt Street Stock in regards to motor and general suspension allowances.

Hummingbird and AMP pay $200 to win - CNB pays $300. 

The top 10 at 'Bird and AMP pays $670 - CNB pays $1700

 

4Cyl's are pretty comparable in dirt and asphalt and a dirt car can pretty much run either of the 3 tracks with little changes.

'Bird and AMP pay $100 to win - CNB $100

The Top 10 at 'Bird and AMP pays $450 - CNB pays $555

 

IF it really comes down to pay (which I don't think that it does)....

I will PAY OUT DOUBLE what AMP and 'Bird are paying for the 4Cyl's for this Saturday, MAY 31st IF we start 15 4cyl's in the feature race.

 

I will also open the track to the Dirt Racers on Friday nite (May 30) from 5 pm 'til dusk for an OPEN PRACTICE at NO COST.

This way they can get comfortable and dialed in before the show on Saturday, May 31st.

 

I challenge the guys to come out and have fun running the asphalt!

The problem isnt the payouts. The problem is they're isn't enough disposable income or interest in asphalt racing; in this area. Add that to the disdain the locals have to the dirt being taken back off. And you've got a perfect recipe for disaster; atleast in the financial aspect. Im sure its a blast to fly around that half mile. But is it enough for someone to invest thousands of dollars into something that could disappear at the drop of a hat. Atleast with a dirt car you have many tracks to choose from.

Somebody really had a brain fart here there are 3 asphalt tracks that run the late models and 2 of them are running that night. Not enough cars around when only one runs. Not alot of thought put into it.

Every one loved the big half mile (on the outside) as dirt on Friday nights. The track has a bad reputation now. Dirt then asphalt...New owners/lease.. i hope u have a lot of time to dedicate to the track it could be one of the best dirt or asphalt tracks in the state but its going to take awhile to earn the trust of everyone back.

Me personally if I still raced my fwd four cylinder. Id like to see what it could do on the asphalt. I hope u stick with it and prove the haters wrong

Consider how it was when the track was paved in 1986.  There were no asphalt cars in the area so Ferd decided to let the guys run their dirt cars the first year just to get things started and it worked.  The next year after guys had a chance to experience the asphalt, they had a set of rules that made the competitors switch to a regular type of asphalt car.  My point is this.  Let them run a "run what ya brung" program until you build up car count that can carry over to the next year.  Bolt the tires on and let them go racing.  This also worked at Jennerstown in 1987 so why not give it a try.

When they ran specials in the past, they could pull cars from Mountain Speedway to the east, Holland from the north and the Cleveland area to the west but the key to it was it happended on a Sunday afternoon so there were not conflicts with the schedule for the drivers running their regular Saturday night venues.  Probably need to make a lot of phone calls to get them to come to Clearfield but that is how to get it done.

I truly believe and have said it many times on here that every race fan needs a place to go , that being said  i have attended NASCAR truck races when they held them in Nazerath(spelling )and the crowd even when this was a new series was small and i have seen A.R.C.A . races on t.v. and their crowds were also small  i just don't know where you can draw support divisions for this track when you only had 8 cars show up last week am i missing something or is there 150 cars being built that i don't know about ? you can say you are in this for the long haul but bills have to be paid and people not showing up don't put any money in your pocket and i doubt that A.R.C.A . is going to let you have a race without some kind of guaranteed payout .the previous promoter (when it had dirt over the asphalt ) once bragged he put $150.000 dollars in the bank after he paid the bills and all the purses out .i think if you are going to make this place a success you need to make it dirt again but this time make the track more driver friendly because the way the track was it was a engine eater (due to the hanging r.p.m's ) it can be done .I wish you guys all the luck in the world but the fans at that track that came to see dirt racing were a whole different breed that go to a short track every saturday night and there was  no problem with them spending the money but when the dirt went away so did the crowd . the first Yankee doodle  i went  to  after the dirt was put back on was standing room only all the stands were sholder to sholder and the cars were parked 2 deep along the hillside fence and 3 deep behind that , one time the cops had called the track to open the gates  because the cars were lined up to the high way . i know we arrived 4 hours early to get a place along the fence more than once . but anyhow i will get off my soap box and wish the new owners good luck i hope you pack the place but i do still know where there is a huge dozer with a ripper on it . Race ace I remember the woo show we parked our car at the ticket booth at 8am to get fence parking. Im a dirt fan but I do wish the new management the best. Ill try to make a show but I live three hours away from clearfield now. I dont wanna drive three hours to watch 10 cars....

We have the same problem here in the Eastern part of PA. We have you asphalt tracks close to each other Mahoning Valley and The New Evergreen Speedway (former Mountain Speedway) and they both run the same classes and the same night. Evergreen was running Sunday during the day till this week and they had a problem pulling cars and Mahoning runs on Saturday nights and has no problems pulling good fields of cars. Instead of these 2 working together they are working against each other and who do you think the loser will be. They both cannot run the same night and the same cars against the same night.

If I had a fwd car id be there. Especially if I was running out of top 5 at other tracks. Heck, CNB was paying $1000 to win, 500 for second and I think they had like 17 cars in the spring. AMP was having practice at same time and they had probably that many fwd's there where they had to pay $30 per person to PRACTICE. Go figure. Maybe the speed scares them.

!00++ mph racing a compact FWD is not scary, it's dumb.  Karts on a 1/4 mile is dumb.  Micro anything on a 1/2 mile is dumb.  I like racing, but there's nothing exciting about the horror of a race car wadded up into a little ball.

 

Fun stops when walls don't walk.

I don't think you can put blame on CNB except maybe realizing too late, a traveling series which can only offer a 10 or 11 truck show isn't much of a series, nor much of a show.  If that is the case the comments on here may have been a reality check and saved the pocket book for another try at something different.

When you are asking dirt cars to come and run at the asphalt track you are sort of asking them to step into the unknown…it is not comparing apples to apples, and it is not the payout…I think the biggest factor for the lower class of cars is the size…the speed that you haul around on AMP or the Bird is not even comparable to the speed you haul around on the asphalt track…it’s just way too fast for a lot of people, on dirt I have heard the same thing said for Tri-City Speedway in Franklin.

 

As for people building asphalt cars, they aren’t going to do it, no one wants to take the plunge and spend the money to race at a track that is not stable, and has an unsure future…as for Jennerstown guys, they never did support the place, even back in the day. “Back in the Day,” Clearfield asphalt was the place to be, for a lot of different reasons, mainly because it was an outlaw track, there was a fight every week…you did not dare and miss a night there, because hard to tell what would happen.

As for the posting on the website, I understand the frustration behind it, however, I just don’t believe the cars are here…as I posted before I don’t know of any asphalt Late Models still around, Jimmer might still have is I’m not sure?

 

 I’m not sure what the answer is at this point in time…it definitely has to be a specials only track…with that said, why is the ARCA truck race cancelled?
