Only lazy people would pay that much for a car. That's the problem with the whole thing, people lost track of what racing is. You build a car and see if you have what it takes to beat the other racers. IF YOU HAVE TO BUY A WIN YOU HAVE NO HEART.

I guess a lot of people have no heart then. Store bought chassis started in the 70's in the Late Model and Semi-Late classes, and by the 80's I would bet 95% of the cars in both classes were store bought. By the 90's it was likely 99%. It seems like its only natural that most of the "B" classes would follow, the Street Stock/Sportsman & E-Mods, followed. Even classes like Hobby Stocks and 4 Cylinders, Young Guns have at least store bought cages. I don't see this trend changing.

The problem with buying that rolling LM comes when it gets wrecked and the guys realize what it costs to repair them.

What huge cost is that? I have no clue what stock car front end parts cost but on a LM if you are not running low friction everything you have $40-50 in an upper $75 in a lower and $150 in a spindle. Can't imagine the stock car parts being much cheaper since all the aftermarket stuff started coming out.

Outpace lowers with moly heims are around 230 each , 75 each ball joint , tie rod 80, upper control arm 140, spindle 200 , right side header 1150 , beadlock wheel and tire 430 , right front shock 750 ..... And those pieces are half as strong as what's on a cadet type car

As I stated those prices are not for anything low friction or top of the line. And I do agree that they aren't as durable. But with the money these guys are putting into aftermarket front suspension and shocks on street stocks. Kind of makes me wonder why? And the motors are no cheaper than crates or a good steel block and a lot of tracks are running Berts. So where the huge savings to make it worth running a street stock for $300 to win versus a crate or steel block for $700?

To answer the question on why people spend the money they do on the aftermarket parts in the Street Stocks/Sportsman, they want to win. Go to your weekly tracks and you see $100K Late Models, $50K Crate Lates, 30K E-Mods, 20K+ Street Stocks/Sportsman, etc.In the Lates you could win every feature at Lernerville and PPMS in a season, including the Firecracker and Pittsburgher, (and for the sake of argument we'll say the Pittsburgher is back to a $25K to win show), and still not make back what you spent. The truth is, if you can afford it, you'll spent whatever it takes to win. Thats the attitude of most racers.

^ the above is absolutely true, From a guy who ran a true stock emod with a claim rule to what it became, and now running a Sportsman to see what it's become, the numbers are also right on.

the prices of shocks alone from a winning crate to a winning ss are not even close, hundreds of $ apart.

That's true and it is one of the problems with the class in both Fastrak and RUSH. For what is suppose to be an "economy" class, $5K shock packages really don't belong. What several of us are saying though is the intial cost of a crate late is not much more than what some are paying to buy store bought chassis sportsman/street stock deals. Yes it costs more to maintain a crate late, but you also race for more. The other plus is there are 12+ tracks in the region that have the crates plus another couple that have an occasional special. And more or less other than having to have two sets of tires, (one for Fastrak, one for RUSH),the rules are close enough you can race at all of them. But with the Sportsman/Street Stocks, while just about every track in the region has the class, most have their own rules and you can't go from your home track to another without making a bunch of changes to your car to go to most of them.

Try thousands apart on stocks. Good ohlins or integra are $700+ each.. You can get a good shock sportsman shock for $150 each..

Even building the car yourself you will still have 15k into a street Stock just to hang, and that is with buying some used stuff.

When they started letting Stocks use Late Model Tires - Brinn Trans- 410ci Motors and Moving the shocks it caused everyone to spend crazy money to win $300

Put them on Hard 8in dirt tires, pump Gas, 360ci max, no late model type transmissions, 2800-3000lbs. the cost will go down and more people will have and/or build a stock.

Pure Stock/Street Stock/Sportsman will be the same class. There is no need to have 3 classes of stocks

And he used to dominate stocks on $50 shocks. That dude can flat drive a car. That's the exception not the norm.
