Jimmy Weller definitely has a need for speed. The daring driver from Hubbard, Ohio has been flying around tracks of all kinds in everything from go-karts to trucks since he was a boy and was seriously injured 10 years ago when his sprint car crashed at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The young racer underwent a grueling 18 months of recovery and is back at it today driving in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

Weller has raced in our area at Sharon Speedway and Lernerville in Sarver, PA., so it seems a natural fit for him to visit the BC3 Campus to talk about his experiences on the evening of Wednesday, December 10th, 2014 from 7 to 9 PM.

Jimmy will bring his Crew Chief and his official NASCAR racer to the stage of BC3’s  Succop Theater giving the audience a rare glimpse behind the scenes of NASCAR with exciting race films, lots of personal stories and an introduction to the newest technologies employed to build a winning, high-performance machine. It should be noted that BC3 offers a number of educational opportunities related to the sport including Advanced Manufacturing, Automotive Technician, CADD, and Additive Manufacturing (3-D printing), and that information about these programs will be available that evening as well.

Tickets for the December 10th NASCAR event featuring number 23 Jimmy Weller are $34 for regular admission and $19 for students under age 18. Tickets may be purchased by calling 724-431-4622 or online at bc3.edu/nascar. The program runs from 7 to 9 PM. Doors open at 6:00 PM.

Don’t miss this chance to experience a very personal look behind the scenes into the exciting world of NASCAR racing.

Educational opportunities; nice!  Where did Jimmy go to college?

If anyone goes, and there is a Q & A portion of the program, I think an interesting question would be, "What is a more compelling factor in getting a ride at the 3rd highest level of stock car racing: having a driving record on the shabby side of mediocre, or possessing blank checks?"

If at first you don't succeed, then maybe you just suck.

Outstanding! Post of the year.

The replies by Scruffy and Hot Dog are exactly what is wrong with race fans today.  Instead of looking at the big picture of the sport and trying to get a new fans, or the younger generation involved in our sport, Everybody makes a snide remark.  This is exactly the response I knew the origional post would get.  The sport in general, from divers, tracks, sponsors and fans is in a very sad state of decline.  It would be nice if people looked at this to maybe take a new fan, a young child, etc and try to show the good in the sport.   Anyone who tries to do anything positive in the sport is "shot down" immediately.  Our sport will never grow with this mentality.  When you speak negatively you are speaking negatively of the sport so many proclaim to "love"

Puh-leeese.  What's wrong with race fans...you mean that I saw through the smoke and mirrors?  That's not shame on me, ma'am.

If the crux of this event is to save the life of poor old, hanging on by a thread racing (Failing promoters sure are beating this to death, aren't they?), then why charge triple what the local tracks charge for admission?  What person, not currently an active racing fan, is going to pay $34 to listen to someone talk about racing?  NASCAR fans (WAY different from racing fans), that's who.  This event is a fundraiser for Butler County Community College, trying to separate NASCAR fans from their money.  Which is fine, but dog-gone-it, don't insult peoples' intelligence by posting it here under the guise of helping to raise racing from its ashes - hang a flier at every Sheetz and GetGo in Butler County.  That's the target audience.

I am not putting any one down.  Just stating my view.  I have been in the sport for nearly 50 years now and this is my opinion. There is no smoke and mirrors in the origional post.  BC3 could have chosen any sport, or any athelete.  They chose a local driver who has made it to the truck series.  Yes they are promoting the college, but they are also promoting local racing as well.  If the negativity starts from the local "fan" base up, then what message does that send to the casual or non fan?

Do you take exception to my inferring that a driver with a college education to speak (at a college!) in favor of college classes related to his career would've been a no-brainer?  C'mon man!  Or did you take offense to my mentioning that the current state of the truck series is largely dedicated to providing a playground for rich kids?

Nice language too, filth mouth.

This is the problem with this shithole of a board and why hardly anyone gives a damn about it. After about 10 years you'd think these stupid son of a bitches would be trolling Facebook. Guess not. I guess in order for the "president" to speak he has to be an expert. In order for a race car driver to speak about the weather, they now have to be a meteorologist. Sincerely, shut the f*ck up scruffy and hot dog, and go find another thread to post your useless bullshit on. It's no wonder why no drivers come on here anymore. I'd get sick of the dumb shit too. Especially from your waste of an account.

Speak about the weather, no.  Go to the National Weather Service and speak to a group of prospective meteorologists and weather enthusiasts, it would add credibility.

I'll ignore the rest of the negativity in your post.  The next negative thought could kill racing, you know.  I'd hate for it to be mine.

Same here.

If the negativity starts from the local "fan" base up, then what message does that send to the casual or non fan?

You still insinuate that my post is negative toward racing, even after I explained that I was addressing this particular event, not all of racing. Opposing your view, or even the popular view, does not constitute negativity, Stalin.

I'll answer anyway: No message at all.  The causal or non-fan is not reading here, nor do they likely know that this board exists.

Nerve, yes. Who honestly cares if Jimmy has a degree or not. Does it honestly matter? It brings attention to the college, and maybe that is all they want. It's pathetic it seems like every single thread you view on here, has some useless bullshit from the same idiots. Scruffy, you, wannabe legend, pudnats, all those dumbasses. Get a freaking life, and go troll somewhere else.

Dumb idea.  I have no clue what BC3 is and all the poster I downloaded says is it's at BC3.

Maybe you ought to tell folks what BC3 is and where it's located?

Butler County Community College Butler, PA.

Michael Dell, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, John D. Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, Larry Ellison, Mark Zuckerberg, and Sheldon Adelson all did not attend College but seem to have done very well for themselves...

I think most if not all also spoke at Institutions held in a higher regard than BC3...

I love how some
Toss off brought my name into a thread I didnt even comment on. So here's my comment ..... The " students " at " bc3" are mostly from
The fine areas of alliquippa , beaver , beaver falls , Rochester etc etc ... Unless Jimmy has revolutionary new materials cheaper than baby laxative to cut crack with for higher profit margins I'm pretty sure anything he tells the " natives " will fall on deaf ears lol
