Will the fast guys that start up front never catch the slow guys to have to pass them? Make them race for the win. It should not be a freebie. That is why we call it racing!

Start by inverted points!! Invert the top 12 in the track standings (6 in each heat) That should put the clowns and squirrels to the back and still require the top divers to "race" for the win!! Any car that gets lapped in a heat race should not be starting up front. Drivers who run that slow should drop down a class or two and save the rest of the drivers a whole lot of problems!!

Inverting 12 when there's 16 cars is the problem
Base the invert on the number of cars for that night.
I understand both sides of the argument. Teams don't want to get stuff tore up. Fans want drivers have to earn a feature win. Drivers like Sesco should never start up front, not even in a heat race, and especially at a tight track like MRP. Bill Kiley is slow too, but he does his best to run a straight line and stay out of trouble. Unfortunately, sometimes that isn't enough, and that's part of it. No track, especially today, is going to turn cars away.

I can agree with all of that and I'd bet most drivers would too.Base the invert on the number of cars for that night.

While in therory this works, not everyone runs for points anymore, and guys that are up front in the points are not always the fastest cars. I remember the old penalty point systems that a lot of local tracks had, and I never thought this was fair if you had to miss a race for whatever reason, your were screwed the rest of the season. With the Super Lates, from what I see, slower cars are generally cars on tighter budgets than the front runners, so dropping down a class isn't as easy as it sounds, you would have to buy a crate motor, which cost more money. Same for the sprints and modifieds, or just about any class that exists today.

I think the inverted points would discourage some racers who may come into the area if their home track has the night off.

Inversion on points average is best. This is total points divided by appearances. Gives and average performance factor no matter how many times a racer has raced.
Grandview uses this system weekly and normally inverts 14 in the feature. They get large car counts and have the best weekly show in the country. I will gladly drive 7+ hours to there to see their weekly show.

Mercer used to use an average point system many years ago!! Works, but a lot more work for the guy keeping the points.......Which was me back then!!! Of course this was before computers and every thing was done by hand. I kept points on index cards and then typed up two lists every week!!

all these silly ideas of starting the meat heads up front is god damn retarded... problem i see is a couple cars that are decent start up front with them and the rest of the decent cars start 10-12... so you have a 2 car battle in the front and few playing dodge ball trying to "push" their way to the front... Ya jo73 thats about the only choice they have if its a tight place like mercer and they want to win. your lucky the faster cars arent wrecking them to get them outta the way... they should..... the tracks are trying to cater to the cars that dont put on a show and are only rolling road blocks... i guess there are dumb ass fans that enjoy seeing how fast sesco can start on the pole and go a lap down.... I'd rather watch a few hard driving good competitors fight for a win... ASCOC and WOO and who ever that count on these slower cars for their car counts are smart enough to have a system that keeps them from starting up front. Yet Bill Kiley is at every WOO show....
