Are they replacing supers with steel blocks or are they adding steel blocks?

Meh. I'm never a fan of adding divisions to an already bloated, back gate driven show.

Legend is right! Let the Steel Blocks that are competent drivers compete in the Supers. There is no reason to open up a lower class just for Steel Blocks. All you're going to do is create a false top dog impression for guys who otherwise weren't good enough to compete along with the supers. And it becomes a pissing match that eventually turns into a demolition derby. Either lump them in with the Super Latemodels or the Crates (and call them econo lates) like Hesston.

There are very few instances where the pits actually pay the purse.

If you're running more than 3 or 4 divisions, you're a track attempting to live off the back gate because you know damn well the front gate ain't where it needs to be.

Back when Dog Hollow dropped them years ago alot of the open steel block guys had a decision to make, race elsewhere or race with the supers. The motors are good enough to compete with them. We went to TVR and ran our steel block with the supers and had no issue winning races. I think we won 6 (pretty convincingly) at TVR against the open motors. As for the people bashing the steel block drivers I can think of quite a few that are quality drivers that run with the supers just fine like George Dixon who ran top 5 with a all steel 358 last year at Dog Hollow until I believe a mechanical failure ended his night. With that being said there are guys that in the supers with an all aluminum engine that can't hold a line and do the things some say the steel blocks do. Just because they don't have the fancy motor doesn't mean they should be forced to race in a dying division...

not a true statement.
take the 4 cyl class for instance; at dog hollow the avg car count is 12.
The purse for 12 cars would be $670. (pit pass $25)
they need to sell 27 pit passes just to cover the purse. Say they sell 20 (if you notice, these guys come as teams and they all drive their own cars and change their own tires, they aren't selling many passes to a pit crew, most of their friends and families go to the front gate)
This class is a negative $175 for a night of racing.
for anyone thinking that the lower divisions are paying the purse for upper divisions needs to take another look at it.

Regardless of the racing division, if you are racing locally at a weekly track you are going to have guys that can wheel and guys that can't get out of their own way in each division. When you have a touring race or a bigger race that attracts more talent the guys that struggle will be weeded out with B-Mains. Steel Blocks at Marion Center typically yes are a demo derby. When Dog Hollow had the steel block race a few weeks ago there was some good racing in that division with clean driving. The biggest thing is with the introduction of the crate class, steel blocks are getting squeezed. I wouldn't want to see another division of late models being added. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Dog Hollow consistently got a good car count for the super lates with a few steel blocks mixed in.
As far as the back gate, if you are assuming only 20 pit passes are sold for 12 cars I think your off base. I would say that each car brings AT LEAST an AVERAGE of 3 people, driver included. There are a handful of guys that do it on there own and I have seen guys have 6-8 people with them.
