pms has a good safety crew. I have been going there for 28 years and I never seen a fire get out of control. That is the one thing that I wouldn't take away from them.

You may be fine with knowing that your car is going to burn to the ground if it catches on fire but I'm not ...

I believe they crew have bought there own gear and things and they do a great job for what they have. But if you noticed when the sprints came in last Sat. there were a rescue truck and personal now tell me why when we race on a week to week there we are treated 2nd class and get 5 lb fire ext and safety crew that has to provide there own gear.

Your are the one that defends them not me .... There's no reason not to have legit fire crews on site. I'm sure people wouldn't mind paying extra to get in if they were able to hand it straight to the fire crew.

On the asphalt in Ohio, the Sandusky Cavalcade is Saturday and Sunday, and the reopening of Barberton is Saturday and Sunday.  I'm most likely going there on Sunday, and to Mercer on Friday.  Good luck to all, weather is supposed to be great.

thanks, I might just go to Barberton Sunday.  They sure beat the heck out of Sandusky's payout for the racers.

They may have to buy their own stuff I dont know. They do take some pride in what they are doing. As far as the sprints are concerned they are way more unprotected and do 10 flips in the air in some cases so the more safety crew the better. My question is what kind of stuff are they letting race at the knob for cars to catch fire like that. I have seen cars barrel roll out of a track and not catch fire. Sounds like a little bit of neglect on the racers part. But there is no excuse to have a car burn like that on the track.

It's all about the promoter of a speedway treating the local fire/ems station correctly. You have to. #1. These guys are volunteers, they may ask for the opportunity to set up a booth or run a 50/50. I wouldn't no who is the Department in the tracks area. I hope this is not some cheap ass disagreement between a fire chief and a promotor. If that is the case, I hope no racer, or fan, or anyone for that matter gets hurt on racetrack property, and anyone involved in that disagreement gets his ass handed to him.

20 or 30 years yes some cars where questionable when it came to safety. But, in this day of age people building cars are more safety minded. Yes, cars that flip can catch fire so can a car hitting the wall. Sprint car drivers,SLM drivers,Sportsmans drivers and any one else who races their lives are important. I don"t care if it is a weekly show or a special show your track should have safety crews nothing less.

There is no reason at all not to have a fire department there.    Roaring Knob once did.    He has chased everyone off.

Fire department is the most important thing to have incase a driver is trapped or a fire! Won't let fire department sell 50/50 that's why they left. Actually 4 local fire departments use to be there each week taking turns supporting the track. The the owner of the local Diner and fire chief took his own money made a fire protection cart was there every week and guess what jones pissed him off also. It won't be long until he has no cars or fans for everyone that knows his track record!
