Hindsight being 20/20, track owners do what they think is best for their bottom line.  I was planning on going to Marion Center Saturday night, but because of the forecast, the actual rain where I live, and the 90 minute drive, I stayed home.  I will no longer travel any distance with a bad weather forecast, and I will occasionally make the wrong decision like last Saturday.

Just trying to cover the backs of some of the locals, but arent most of them closer to Ohio tracks anyway? I think Sodeman is based out of Ohio and the Matus group is close up in Wampum. The only local driver that might be closer to Posse territory would be the Flick kid in Pittsburgh. Maybe that is why most of them dont go east more often.

Flick lists Apollo as hometown.

My dad drove late models in the early 70's at North Hills, Butler, Mercer, Blanket Hill, and occasionally Tri City. We won the last late model track championship at Blanket Hill.

...and we have a winner...

It's damned if you do, damned if you don't.  Cancel early fans cry, cancel late drivers waste gas towing for nothing.

Stick it out through the rain and race, but the fans dont come and the track loses money. No matter what happens, someone will not be happy. So as a business, it makes sense for the tracks to cancel with a forecast of rain. I dont think Mercer made any 'bad' decisions, although, they may have been able to race this past Saturday.

With the terrible weather and poor car counts, I've always thought tracks would come up with other ways to use the properties to make money. Have a Sunday concert or demo derbies/enduro races. I'd hate to have to rely on a handful of nice Saturday's in a whole year to support my racetrack financially.
