Just wanted to say thanks to all the race teams, fans, and crew members we met over the past decade there. It is a sad day for the track for sure. I'm sure the owners are laughing all the way to the bank on how they suckered every penny out of the teams,fans,ect over the years pretending to improve the place. Thanks for preserving local racing in the tri state area.

Just a reminder that these people screwed Red Carnes and Dale Bish out of buying the track so that they could tun around and sell the track to developers. Red and Dale already had plans in place for improvements when the Miley's crooked attorney somehow got the court to rule that the Miley's have the right to buy the track. Instead of swallowing their pride and selling the track to somebody who would keep it a racetrack they would rather have it destroyed than be shown up by competent management.

The reality of life is that it was a smart business move, and will make the Miley family a boatload of money.  Sucks to be a race fan these days, but welcome to the real world.

I don't care for the place since they took over, but what FanJim said.   It's the real world and its business.  People are going to do what they need to do to make money.  It was a smart investment move getting that property as it is now prime.   Even if someone else had gotten it, they would have probably sold out as well.   Noboby is making $800,000 from a race track these days.  Best way to get your money back is develop it.  It's reality. Racing is dying.   Lernerville could well be next given all the new houses in the surrounding area of it.  Who is to say that isn't why the new owners bought it as well?

The Miley family can look in the mirror and see the reason the track is where it is at today. Ask anyone like gearhead or danny rich who have been going there for years they can shed light on it for you. lets review a few key points here that helped lead to the demise of the track in no particular order.

 

1. stopped allowing people to bring their own beer and forcing them to buy it from them instead (greed)

2. charging ridiculous prices to get in the stands or the pits for their so called specials (greed)

3. not having enough machinery operational at the track which would screw them when it rained as they did not have the means to get the track ran back in and would always cancel (stupidity)

4. failing to properly market the speedway, sorry facebook and twitter are not the be all end all (laziness)

5. Matt and Ben being so conceited they would turn their noses at people who would make suggestions to improve their place or getting defensive and telling fans and drivers if they do not like it don't come back, which from the car counts and fans in the stands it appears some took that advice to heart (ignorance)

6. Place looks like a wreck, bleachers need updated, weeds growing through the fences and on the walls. I mean really how hard is it to either pay someone or you yourself spend a few hours at the place and whack the weeds (laziness)

 

I'm sure others can add to this but the Mileys took a track that at one time was great and basically got everything they could out of it without giving much back until they were able to sell out.

Dutko is clueless, most of the criticsm is warranted. How much criticism does the King family, the Gundaker family, Helfrich, or Slack get? Very little because they are good, personable people who care about their facilities and their patrons. The Mileys had their chance to be a great, RESPECTED, legendary promoting family that everybody speaks highly of, but their egos got in the way.

What an asshole comment by Mike Dutko. The latest in a long line of them though.

I urge everyone, racers and fans alike, to show their appreciation to the Miley family this Saturday and Saturdays to come by attending Marion Center, Wayne County, Sharon, Mercer or any other Saturday track. Let Matt and his business team get an early start.

I will agree with several points that were raised, it costs a lot to go to the races at PPMS, and the physical plant has deteriorated markedly in the last several years.  However, I am glad they kept the track open from 1989 to the present, almost 30 years.  I have been going to PPMS since it opened in 1979, and it's always been one of my favorite tracks. What I disagree with vehemently, is that the track went downhill as soon at the Mileys took it over. So not true. The Pittsburgher began and flourished under their tenure for many years, until falling on hard times in the recent past (last year's Pittsburgher notwithstanding).  Until Lernerville, which under Don Martin had always been primarily a Sprint track, began hosting the Firecracker, the Pittsburgher was, by far, the best attended and most prestigious Late Model race in the tri-state area.  

 

A big part of the problem at PPMS was the untimely death of Red Miley.  The rest of the family does not seem to have his easy-going personality and business sense.  Since his death, the physical plant has worsened rather badly, although the one thing that improved after the Mileys bought PPMS, was the quality of the racing and the condition of the track surface.  And the quality of the racing has maintained given the yeoman efforts of Brian and his dad, prepping the track week in and week out.  I am very sad to see the demise of this race track, but unlike some of you, understand that certain business decisions become inevitable at some point.  

 

As for boycotting the track, the folks who that would hurt most are the competitors who still choose to race there.  There are still many special events left there this season, the Ed Laboon Memorial, the UFO races, the All Star Sprint shows and the Pittsburgher, and I look forward to attending them all.

DUTKO you are full of crap. The Mileys brought this on themselfs. They are the ones who let the track go to sh#t. They are the ones who treated the racers and fans with little or no respect. NOT the social media. My question to you  how many times you came to PPMS, and what did you see a track that was kept up or let go. The people on social media were showing their concern for the track and racers hoping the Mileys heard what they were saying.These are the same people who were loyal fans and racers who supported the track for many years.

There is nobody in the track business that has all the answers. Roger Slack is the best in the business and even he has some serious detractors.

It will be a sad day when the D-9 shows up to flatten the place. My questions going forward. How are they going to keep weekly racing going with the news hitting the PG. Whats the next step from the rush folks ? The SLM guys, or what's left of them, how many are going to show up to race with 5 car fields ? These guys with hobby stk and young guns. We're are they going to go ? I'm not going to bash the Miley's. There's not a person out there that wouldn't like to have acres of prime land just waiting for the area to grow. You mite not get the price you want today. But eventually your cash day will arrive. When I started to go to Lernerville in 68. There was nothing out there. You were in the country. Look around today, that property is turning into PRIME real estate. This move hurts ALL racing in western pa. That race car you just bought for 10 or 20 grand. Well you just lost 60%. I'm sure promotors are already thinking of ways to get those cars to there racetrack, most notably the crate cars. I would always look at those light towers and think about the races they shined down on. Heidelberg and PPMS. Thanks for all the great racing action.

Very shitty for me and my son come next year. I hope the racers and the jack offs who say boycott the place realize that alot of people spent alot time time there with family and friends. I still remember my first race i attended there probably 89 90. With my dad my aunt my cousin and my uncle. I still remember my aunts passion for racin john mason when he was still in his prime. I remember the friends ive made there over the years. I remember all of the wins the cars ive worked on over the years possessed. Lot of memories gone by the wayside that all flood back. Now i have to find somewhere else or something else to do with my son. But time marches on i guess. Farewell rip

If it's not sold now it's still just a matter of time. Ferree wanted to buy it to keep it a track and he was turned out so the end is probably near.
