Hypothetical question: If there were to be held in Central Pennsylvania a $5000 to win SS race with a $16,000 total purse, which allowed both asphalt and dirt SS's to attend (rules of course, would have to be dealt with)...how well in everyone's opinion would this event be attended, and how far would teams tow to attend the event?

Central Pa. where and what track??

With the great reputation and car counts/following the Penn/Ohio Series has it may be a good idea to get them involved.

Asphalt stocks?? Why??

Not at liberty to say where and what track at this point...just gathering some preliminary information on interest with this type of event.

Asphalt Street stocks and dirt pure stocks are your closest representation. Dirt street stocks have way too much motor in comparison to the asphalt Street stocks

Depending on track I would say 70 cars

#1 Get the penn/Ohio series involved. After that kill the idea of mixing in asphalt cars. I don't think that you could adjust the rules that far. In my opion it would only hurt you in the long run. The track, the location, and many more various reasons is something that has to go into the process. Your advertising, your contact with drivers at there home tracks. Talking to all the chassis builders and motor guys will help get the word out. It's free advertising, take advantage of it.

Lastly, but very important, contact Vince Laboon. He has built that race at PPMS into something special. He had 53 cars show up, with weather that I believe kept cars from showing up. 70 cars or more is not impossible.

Buy the paved track in clearfield, turn it back to dirt, and this can be your inaugural event!

^^agreed.. I could see a race like that attracting 100 cars.  For a purse that big who wouldn't show up?!  I personally would like to see something like that happen at Central PA speedway, and getting the PennOhio boys involved.  Clearfield, is centrally located and if you had that much money on the line I could see teams towing from New York, Ohio, West Virginia, and Maryland.

Some little things to take into consideration prior to planning though.  Don't compete with PennOhio.  It's better to have them in your corner than against you.  Also make sure you don't schedule during another big event ie. the Stampede or the firecracker.  you can't cater to everyone.  So look at some track rules in the area, figure out a happy medium or run Nesmith rules.

If properly managed this could be a big event in the Northeast.

Just my two cents....

The Laboon Memorial Race pays $3,017 to win with a purse over $14K, with no entry fees. If I'm reading this correctly you're essentially looking at a similar payout and adding $2K to win and ending up at $16K total purse. I don't think this gets you to 70+ cars. I think you'd need to be in the $10K to win bucket like the races you see down south to go north of 70.

The Penn Ohio race paid $2500 to win at Thunder Mountain and got 40 cars.

Some guys just don't travel. And that's okay. Budget, time, and fear of tearing up equipment keeps some guys local. Even if I made my race $5K to win as well I don't think I'd get many more cars.

The rain cost me between 7 and 10 cars from the feedback I received, which would have gotten me to 60 ish cars. As others said, it's tough to give advice without knowing the location, date, rules, sanctioning, entry fees, etc. But good luck, it's always nice to see new events like this popping up for the Stocks.

Different time altogether, but central pa has had 40-50 show up fairly regularly for $1000 to win. It's not always the purse. There weren't many street stock specials back then, but that place drew them in. Miss those days, but let's not get our hopes up. I don't see anyone investing in the place.

Event would be held late in the year, after most other tracks would be closed.

I personally think Vince's input on this is fantastic insight to put on a show of this caliber..

Coupling with the Penn Ohio from State College area west is almost a must..

As far as dirt and asphalt cars being combined.. I think it's possible. I'm just not sure how many would want to put in the work.

What track this event is held at I think would be a huge determining factor.

Promote, Promote Promote!! Even if it is going to be a late in the year event.. Start now!!

I think your format will have a lot to do with it.....

I think one of the reasons that  Vince's race (as well as the 2 Penn Ohio races thus far) is so well attended is that it is a ONE day event with a great payout...

I know myself, I'd rather run a one day show....

Promote and listen to the drivers and the gate will take care of itself.....

I agree with some of the above posts that Vince would do a good job putting this together. Or at best be a big part of it. A one day show 70+ cars, man that"s a Pro- Stock racer and fans dream. Hell, i would drive 3 to 4 hrs. for that show. Hope someone picks up on this.

The quoted text in red is probably a big reason why you have not received much feed back.

"Central Pa." has many tracks that encompass a very large area. Central Pa could mean as little as a 2 hour tow to 5+ hours tow for teams in this area depending on what track.

If who ever is interested in doing this and if they are truly serious about making this happen they need to name what track this is going to happen at and get out and promote the heck out of it.
