I don't know when you stopped going to PPMS, but they've been "taking care" of the track surface for quite some time out there.  You can certainly choose to spend your money wherever you wish, but you seem to be a pretty good race fan, and you're just denying yourself some mighty good racing by not going.  On another positive note, looks like great weather for The Stampede this weekend.

Thanks, that's why I asked.  It's a bit of a drive for me now, but still worth it at least a couple times a year.  The last time I looked at the surface Ben Miley was still driving, because I joked that they ran Saturdays so that they could sweep Lernerville dirt out of Ben's trailer or there wouldn't be any clay at all.  I think I've been to the track a few times since that.  It was the "you stop to avoid a wreck it counts against your caution total too," that really did it for me.  I watched a guy hammer through another LM that was against the wall to not have to stop, and haven't been back since.

Looking forward to the Stampede, although it's not looking good for practice tonight.

My dad drove late models in the early 70's at North Hills, Butler, Mercer, Blanket Hill, and occasionally Tri City. We won the last late model track championship at Blanket Hill.

Are you sure the guy who "hammered" through a late model just didn't know where to go or have anywhere to go? I doubt anybody would purposely destroy their own car just to avoid going to the back of the field. There aren't many places that I know of that allow you to stop at all and get your spot back.

It's not just the spot, it's counting the caution against the strike out total, and there was a definite attempt to slow and then accelerate through.

I've seen a lot of times where a car would even spin after the caution was out and get the spot back because they didn't cause the caution, and the same if the caution was already out and the driver stopped to avoid the wreck.  I remember Jimmy Hawley putting his car on its side after a red was already out.  I'm pretty sure he got his spot.  Funniest wheel climb I've ever seen too.  At that time Lernerville wanted all the cars to stop in turn 4 for a red flag.  He was the last guy to get into turn 4 and it was crowded.  Just before he got it stopped he went wheel to wheel with a stopped car and dumped it over.
