On Saturday evening, history was made as Mansfield Motor Speedway returned to dirt after an extended period serving as a paved destination.  And what a night it was. The massive crowd on hand was treated to an amazing battle for the win between Jac Haudenshild and Chris Windom that left a good many fans standing at the end of the 30 lap Wingless Sprint main event. Meanwhile, Caleb Helms broke out the broom and finished off the weekend sweep of Attica and Mansfield in 410 Sprint action while former UMP National Champion Rusty Schlenk put the CJ Rayburn house car in Super Late Model victory lane.

There were 6,000 people there.  Any racetrack would kill to have an issue with too many people attending and food lines being too long.

It is not the fans fault if the track was not prepared. I find it foolish that they did not have the time to get a racecar on the track before the first race.

Getting one racecar on the track and holding races are completely different things. There's even a huge difference between hotlaps and actual racing. It took Lernerville a season and a half to get the surface before this one decent.  The surface pulled completely up in parts of the corners.  Opening night on a new track is that much harder to predict.

My dad drove late models in the early 70's at North Hills, Butler, Mercer, Blanket Hill, and occasionally Tri City. We won the last late model track championship at Blanket Hill.

It was as prepared as much as it could be prepared. And it was actually smoother than some other tracks I've been to. By no means was it dangerous or unraceable.

Why is that in a time where dirt tracks are closing left and right fans like you still go racetracks looking for a reason to be pissed off and never go back?  First of all, if you expected ideal track conditions after they just finished taking the asphalt off 7 weeks ago you're a moron and know nothing about dirt racing.  90% of the people who attended last night expected at least one break for track rework.  And after they reworked the track it was better.  The racing in both sprint classes was really good, and that's hard for me to say that because I hate sprints.  There just weren't enough good supers to put on a good show and the track was a but too rough for them.  But again, it's only been 7 weeks.  And this was the Cody's first race as the track owner.  On a positive note, in the very short amount of time he's owned the place he had all of the lights working, the safety lights working, the PA system working (somewhat), the track equipment working, the scoring system working, and even though the situation wasn't ideal, enough restrooms and concessions working to get through the night.  You don't think they'll fix the scoreboard, track conditions, ticketing issues, PA system issues, and all of the other minor issues in the weeks ahead?  Give me a break.  It's easy to run a racetrack while you're sitting on your ass in front of your computer.  I've been critical of racetracks myself, but only when there is an obvious lack of effort.  The staff at Mansfield absolutely worked their butts off last night for the thousands of people that were there, which was obviously a MUCH bigger crowd than they expected.  And the staff that I spoke to couldn't have been nicer and I saw track staff courteously helping people throughout the night.  The facility is like a smaller version of Charlotte, it will be a premier racing facility in no time.

By the way, I stayed for the 410 and Super features and got out of there at 11:30, which isn't bad at all considering.  And I still had a 2.5 hour drive home.  If you left before the features because your bed time is 10:00 then maybe racing isn't the hobby for you.

The bathrooms are a big concern at any track.....Filthy and unattended bathrooms is disgusting and uncalled for !

Who said anything about filthy unattended bathrooms, was a guy sitting on a chair at the entrance of the mens BR off turn four, got dirtier as the night went on but there was a lot of dirt flying that way, by no means filthy. Not all the urinals working but its a work in progress. Before the race started probably one of the cleanest crappers you'll find at a dirt track!
