you are forgetting a few components

Ignition---air cleaner--carb spacer--flywheel---motor mounts---fan blade---fan spacer---water lines---fuel plumbing

a fuel pump---power steering pump ---water pump and pulleys at $700 is certainly on the economic side of quality but you are correct----you can outfit an engine much cheaper than $13,300 but if you read my post completely I did ask that you compare apples to apples and I did make a special note that we can certainly use more economic components

the $13K number includes much more than you might think and the components are all top shelf

can a guy get out there and be competitive for thousands less?---the answer is absolutely "YES" but many choose the high route and that is there choice

also in my original post I stated that we work backwards than many retailers

we start out with everything possible and of the highest quality and performance and then widdle down to fit your budget

Brad

Lower cost does not always mean lower quality or performance. Motor mounts, flywheel, plumbing, air cleaner, fan, fan spacer, plumbing, carb spacer, and ignition can be purchased for under $1000

KH,

by your figures it is just under $10K---(actually $9800 is your quote)

and I absolutely agree that folks can get into a "COMPLETE" package for that

we sell them constantly---read my posts completely

just don't see the point of your post

My point is that you can put together a competitive crate motor package for under $10000, especially if you already have some stuff and you shop around. All the expensive extras
may not make that much difference in overall performance.

Individually, no.  But add up all the "not that much" and you've got something to speak of.

If at first you don't succeed, then maybe you just suck.

I have never once disputed what you are saying K.H.---not once

but there are options for having more dependable components ---can you maybe agree on that???

it even seems as if Scruffy1A has possibly become in somewhat of agreement with me on a subject,

I may have read it wrong or interpreted wrong but sounds like on this we have a common belief at least to a point
