HOMAK PENN OHIO PRO STOCK CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES HAS ANOTHER DISAPPOINTING END AT THUNDER MOUNTAIN THANKS TO MOTHER NATURE’S UNEXPECTED DOWN POUR!

For Immediate Release

May 21, 2017 (Sandy Lake, PA) Clear skies and no rain in the forecast all week gave hope that the first Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock race of the 2017 season would be in the books after Friday night at Thunder Mountain.  Unfortunately, those clear skies turned to overcast with threatening rain throughout the evening.  As the A Main got underway, a sudden downpour ended the night early with three laps complete.

Thirty stock cars were on hand to compete in the $1,500 to-win event.  Twenty-nine out of the thirty drivers were Homak Penn Ohio Series’ members.  After hot lap sessions, drivers had an opportunity at two laps for qualifying to determine heat race starting positions.  Brent Johnson captured the $100 Dirt Diggin’ Chassis prize with his 17.872 fastest qualifying lap.

Other contingency prizes were awarded through random drawing prior to heat races.  Recipients were Leigh Wheeler, bead lock rim from S S Chassis; Rod Laskey, $100 certificate Close Racing Products; Ryan Newman, case of oil from Les Frickshun; Joe Stajnrajh, $75 certificate Genesis Shocks; Jeff Broniczewski, $50 certificate from Schoenfeld Headers; Jim Bloom, $25 certificate from ARbodies; Bill Hurrelbrink, $25 certificate from Big Daddy’s; Brent Johnson, $25 certificate from Wedge Motorsports; Rusty Moore, $25 gift card from Precise Racing Products; Jacob Billyk, fuel jug from Precise Racing Products; Bobby Heim, $25 certificate from Big Daddy’s.

Four heat races proved to be exciting races for the fans.  Heat race winners were Brent Johnson, Russ Byler, Brian Rhed, and Rusty Martz.  The top two drivers from each heat participated in a redraw for feature starting position.  All drivers advanced to the A Main from the heat races.

The A Main event had twenty-seven cars begin the 25 lap race.  Rusty Martz and Brian Rhed led the pack to the green.  Brian Rhed found himself spinning coming out of turn two on the start in front of the field.  While action was slowed, Rhed went to the pits along with Rob Shook and Jacob Billyk.  Shook and Rhed were able to return before the restart to tag the end of the field, along with Andrew Gordon who didn’t take the original green.

The second attempt to get racing underway was also unsuccessful as the yellow flew for Bruce Hartzfeld and Joe Stajnrajh on the back stretch.  Third time proved to be a charm and the race was on with Martz leading the first three laps over Fuzzy Fields, Russ Byler, Brent Johnson, and Rusty Moore.  The caution flag would fly for Brent Johnson who seemed to experience mechanical woes on the back stretch before lap 4 could be completed.

Drivers were in place for a Delaware restart with Martz leading but the caution flag would come right back out for the slowed 101 of Hartzfeld on the front stretch.  The sudden down pour would stop the race on lap 3 sending cars to the pits and officials calling the rest of the event a wash.

Drivers will have an opportunity to finish the remaining 22 laps for $1,500 to-win on Friday, June 16th.  The remaining contingency prizes will be awarded after the 25 lap event: Hoosier Tire from Precise Racing Products; American Racer Tire from Lias Tire; and $50 hard charger award from Shaffer’s Auto and Exhaust.  Thunder Mountain will run the make-up feature prior to their regular Father’s Day show.  The new event for stocks will be a $600 to-win race.
