Bet that was an exciting race with all 8 late models!?...lol....I was thinking about going to Jennerstown this Saturday to the ROC Modified Tour Race but when I seen where they're only getting around 14 cars a race so far this year I changed my mind pretty quick...I can't see me sitting there with only 14 cars in a 100 lap feature playing bumper tag.....(YAWN)

I was there Saturday at Jennerstown and yes I was a freebie to get in. Who gives a S**T if I paid or not. I got to watch some racing and a well run program. The racing was good across all divisions. It was not on your edge of the seat exciting but it was still competitive. A couple more laps and the Kuntz #7 would have gotten around Awtey. Not a ton of cars but look at the dirt tracks around here. They aren't that spectacular either.

 

Wolfie, you commented on food on another post. They had Chic-fil-a Sandwiches, Little Caesers Pizza, Auntie Anne's Pretzels, Dairy Queen among other items the track prepares. Hard to beat that at any track. The only place that comes close to that is Lernerville. So I am not sure where you are getting that their food was sub par. They also had alcohol available.

 

The stands were packed. So be it a lot of those people are free. There aren't that many die hard fans around any more. The die hard fans don't pay the bills. They got the people in the stands and they bought food and drinks. The business strategy seems to be working for them. 

 

I support all kinds of races and tracks. You have to support what you have because it seems the racing community is slowly drying up with rising costs for everyone. 

 

However, if you are going to be a miserable P**ck and just complain the whole time keep your ass at home.

Hey crazylarry,I hope you're not the one cooking the food at the track!!!...If you are now I know why it's expensive and crappy ! And Hatorade,if the owners wouldn't be trying to fill their pockets with money and start giving a s--t about the race fans and not about themselves the diehard fans might start coming back?....Jennerstown hurt themselves years ago by trying to be like a NASCRAP track by overcharging the people and putting a lousy product on the track...

Not sure how they are filling their pockets. I see twice the amount of staff working there than any other local track whether it be Lernerville, Marion Center, etc. They don't pay these people? Isn't that more fan friendly? To keep lines and the racing program moving quickly.

 

Besides, isn't this a business? Does Eldora make money? Does Daytona?  I am sure that they set up all these races to break even!

 

Why do late models go and race for nothing?

 

Why would you sit at home with a late model and not race?

I think the free ticket idea is a really good one.  Though maybe not a good long term strategy, its a good way to inject some interest in the track.  You get people there, they will likely buy food, drinks, etc.  The more people you get, the more it makes sense for companies to advertise at the track.  It's all revenue you wouldn't have generated otherwise..

Well I gotta ask. Is there fans paying for tickets ? If so, how are people getting free tickets ? Yea, if you get those free ticket people to spend at the food and drink concessions it's better than nothing. I would think the paying customer would be a little piss'd if he had to pay every week.

They used to give out free tickets to anyone who bought 50/50's and anything at the novelty stand at Bedford Friday nights.

[/quot I know a few asphalt late models that leave their cars sit home and won't race them because of the expenses to run them and with the low purses they pay it's cheaper to leave them sit home ...

I went last night for the first time in 15 years and yes, the place was packed. One thing that caught my eye as the fans were pouring in was that not a single person was at the ticket sales counter, as everyone had free passes. (except me, as mine expired the week before so I had to buy a senior one for a whopping $8, and I was the only one in line). It looked like a Pirate game as people kept coming in well into the evening, and eventually the stands looked like they did years ago for Fall Fest when the supers were there. The other thing I noticed was that everyone was buying lots of food and drinks from the concessions, so I guess the promoters accomplished that goal, if that's what it was. I don't think that is a good long term business model, but what do I know? I have been going to races for the best part of 60 years and never saw a track so packed with people with so few race cars, as the only class with more than a dozen were the little ones. (I did see a PT Cruiser win a race, that has to be a first for me)

It was great to see the track open and everyone having a good time, but I doubt anyone would be there if it were not free. (stolen apples from the neighbor's tree always tasted better as a kid) It's too bad the cars could not be replaced with what ran there 20 years ago, but I guess that's just how it goes. I will definitely be there for the supers, as they are my favorite.

No matter how many feature wins awtey gets, he can never compare himself to Steve Peles.
Two different racers all together, different eras, different field of cars. Peles raced
against full fields of cars and was/is quite humble. A class act all the way. Cant say the same for awtey.

Ain't that the truth bezerker.....Awtey is the favorite local boy from the owners and management and they show it towards him....And yes Peles was a class act and Awtey is a guy with an attitude...
