To be fair there weren't many people supporting Mercer. The old boys ran every one off

Hot Dog. I have to ask you to explain that one. You say the last 5 yrs the old man's club ran everyone off ? To me it seemed the rules had a large rubber band on them and there was no consistency. Granted I did not make every Saturday and assuming that you have. The track that is going to benefit the most is without question sharon.

Did Altman have any promotional experience before he took over Mercer ? To not run as a special only track just doesn't make any sense.

My family has much history at Mercer. I'm not sure that I've ever been to Sharon. I've meant to go there, but just haven't made it yet. The first time I took my late wife to Mercer we actually intended to go to Sharon, made a few wrong turns and wound up in Mercer.

My dad drove late models in the early 70's at North Hills, Butler, Mercer, Blanket Hill, and occasionally Tri City. We won the last late model track championship at Blanket Hill.

Inconsistent rules were one thing. Poor promotional efforts and inconsistent pricing were a big problem. People would show up having no idea what was on the card only to find out admission was jacked up $5 because drivers were running for an "increased purse" which doesn't matter to your common fan. Telling fans, drivers, crew, and so on that had constructive criticism "it's my track and I'll run it how I like, if you don't like it go somewhere else" surely contributed. The guy they had running the place isn't very pleasant either. I could go on and on and on, but it's not worth it, they ruined it

Yea sounds like a 1 man business plan. Shame, dam shame. I do not understand the daily business duties of running a racetrack but I will add this. As many years as Vicki ran the place it seemed to flourish. I'm sure there was times that people will say something she did that wasn't right. It just seems that after the current owner got it in it went downhill from there.

As critical as I am of the Rush series, I think that Vicki did a great job at Mercer.

I hear ya fan jim. I do not understand there wanting to take over all of racing personally. Here in the south that's all there is. Old timers tell me how these tracks used to be packed with fans and today they don't get 300 people. I sure as heck can't get it. Western pa is lucky in that you can still see SLM, Sprints and big block mods weekly. SLM are gone here in the south, or at least anywhere near me. Sure if a few tracks close the gates it may benefit others. I get it, my old favs are all but gone. Take eriez, the owner passed away, sure the wife is letting someone else open this year. How long will that last ? Same with Marion center. PPMS, they mite as well donate there organs. Mercer, with that asking price I don't think he really wants to sell it. 4 tracks, 1 closed, 2 struggling, and 1 the wife could pull the plug.
