Talked with Dan Pikel tonight at Dog-Hollow speedway.  He told me that he secured a lease for Marion center speedway for the rest of this season as of this evening!  Plans on opening in two weeks on the 21st!  Great news for racers and fans alike.  Good Luck to Dan and his crew.

More great news for racing
Fans and cars need money to get there
500 days with an American at the levers of power in America and 300 percent increase in economic development !
1/5 of that region industry is in Gas and Coal
And when they sell their coal to China ( now that they are not under attack !)there is a MAN who will tell China Turn your boats full of CRAP around if you put a tariff on it !
There has never been a better time in American History for Venture Capitalism than right now
Lets bet a beer on that and visit this thread in one year
cheers!

What's all this got to do with Marion Center and Dog Hollow???    At this point I am wondering if Salvino didn't act too quickly in changing nights??   Can both be successful on Saturday nights??  I don't have a dog in the coming fight, just watching from a distance since I live close to Lernerville and have been going there since Don Martin opened the place in the Fall of 1967!!

GOOD RACING TO ALL!!!

After reading DaveyLee2 above, if he's to be believed, even with Dog Hollow and Marion Center both running on Saturday night, and with all that is going on with America awash in money and all the new race track participants that should develop resulting in a plethora of race fans, maybe it's not too soon to begin looking for the next venue to open.

I know Thunder Mountain Speedway in Corbin, Kentucky was scheduled to open, late June. Needless to say, the state already shut the facility down for some reason.

That was it. Saw that on dirt racing news and never followed up on it.

Yeah, even though it's only been a few weeks, it doesn't seem like Dog Hollow benefitted from the change as much as they might have hoped. It'll be interesting to see if the Hollow toughs it out to the end of the season, and then makes the switch back to Fridays next season. I guess it depends whether Pikel is able to secure a long term lease of Marion Center, or the owners are able to return to running the track themselves.

Personally....I don't see it working well for either one of them.  They mostly get the same cars.  if I were Pikel  I would go Sunday night.  Ya I know...Can't race on Sunday night.  Nobody will come.  Everyone has to work the next day.  But yet when when I was a Kid...Hagerstown, Hesston, and Motordrome all raced Sunday night in competition against each other and all did well. I know 15 years ago when Latrobe was running Sunday night..they were packed.  Then Chester got the bright idea to go Saturday against the knob and TVR in 2003 and it failed .  Had to go back to Sunday.  So I am sure Dan and his guys read this board.  I would think about Sunday.  Will get cars you wouldn't otherwise have.  if you split the Dog hollow field in half...neither one will have enough.  I don't know that it would work even if Dog goes back to Friday night.  Most Guys race one night a week now. Will end up putting someone out of business!  Challenger and Marion center raced against each other for many years and both were sucessfull as well.  But was a complete different group of cars for the most part, and a different era and economy  I wish everyone well.  Hope it works for everyone!

Marion Center is opening at last but on the wrong night, Mercer is running the wrong classes, Sharon brings one of the top dirt sanctions in the country and does a great job getting the program in and everyone home early on a week night but they still suck. You people kill me.

Eriez does great on Sunday night. Of course they have been running that night for quite a long time, and benefit by being one of the only to race. They are well established track with a great following and surface. Not a lot of cars down that way come up because of the distance which could benefit a track that does down that way.

Dog Hollow jumped all over Saturday. Why, because he felt it was hurting his draw. Has it changed ? I have no clue, been there 3 times over the years. MC at one time had a loyal following, fans and teams on a Saturday night. I think if MC reopens on Saturday nights, and the purse structure is there, dog hollow will be forced to go back to Friday.

My question is ? was there a family issue at MC or are the Potts just tired of running the facility ? It's like putting a pool on your property. The first years, it's the best investment we made, then after 3 or 4 years nobody wants to use it. Yes, Yes, I Know. But the Potts clan have been doing it up on there hilltop for more years than I can guess at. Maybe there just tired ? which I can totally understand...

You're right Sharon did get us out of there early which everybody is thankful but the poor quality of racing in track surface left a sour taste and every single person's mouth that left that night. I'm sure a lot of people would have left a lot happier if the racing and surface was up to par for a national touring series and if they had to stay an extra hour. I had a few hour drive back and felt like my $40 was just a donation cuz I had nothing good to say about that night when my friends ask me how it all went. Just my opinion

I am just glad someone stepped up to the plate and did what needed to be done to keep the place opened. Maybe with a little improvements this place can get back to full fields of cars, full grandstands and some really good racing!
It's good that someone who doesn't have any teams is the one who is taking interest.
