Other then not having to be hog ringed and led around by the nose by RUSH, what are the advantages for racers using dirt car sportsman rules over RUSH rules?

I may be wrong but after reading rules DIRT doesn't have open shocks for sportsman.

RUSH shock rules:

Shock Absorbers A.) Shock absorbers are restricted to three part numbers manufactured by Bilstein on a proprietary basis for the RUSH Modified Series (sold at $135). The only allowable part numbers are: RUSH – 162-55 or 165-55 (Note each part # is identical valving) RUSH – 162-90 RUSH – 208-72

135 bucks apeace

DIRT Sportsman:

B. Approved Shock Absorbers: All shock absorbers for the DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds, DIRTcar Pro Stock, DIRTcar Pro Late Model, DIRTcar UMP Sportsman and DIRTcar UMP Stock Car division must be approved and display an approved designation decal. There will be three types of approved designations, ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’. Approved ‘A’-type Shock Absorbers: Pro Shocks – WB and SS Series DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Bilstein – AK and SG/SM Series DIRTcar Pro Stock AFCO – 1020-1034 Series DIRTcar Pro Late Model AFCO – 1273-1295 Series DIRTcar UMP Sportsman AFCO – 1473-1497 Series DIRTcar UMP Stock Car Integra 421 Series Approved ‘B’-type Shock Absorbers: Pro Shocks – TA Series DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Bilstein – SL/SZ Series DIRTcar Pro Late Model Bilstein – SLS Series DIRTcar Pro Stock AFCO – 1000 Series AFCO – 19 Series AFCO - 24 Series AFCO - 74 Series FOX – 983-97-507 FOX – 983-97-509 Approved ‘C’-type Shock Absorbers: Pro Shocks – PG Series DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Bilstein – SL/SZ Series

Open shock rule with a 150.00 claim rule. Refuse to abide by the rule and 3 race suspension results. That opens up the shock selection and keeps teams from spending a fortune on shocks. And padding someone's pocket with branded parts. Mandate the standard shoenfeld header and muffler for cost savings and open the tire rule up so everything is legal. Oh did I say no fuel restriction also. Yes some guys will push the envelope and spend every dollar they have for any advantage they can get but in the end make it affordable for guys to run.

Well you either limit the shocks or put a claim rule on them to stop the guys with big money run 1000 to 1500 dollar shocks and that's apiece. When I came up with and posted the rules for a western pa sportsman modified division the year before Rush got started I got a call from Stan Lester with FasTrack. The rules package was a good one as far as he was concerned with provisions in it that he wished he had used. One of them being the shock rules. At that point it wouldn't have been good to change because everyone had already bought the high dollar equip. Affordable racing is possible if you keep in check what teams can use. Shocks, exhaust, carbs are 3 things that if limited by either mandating certain parts or a simple claim stops teams from spending stupid amounts of money. Tires can be argued in plenty of directions. One tire as long as one person is not branding and jacking up the price or a couple tires and seeing if Hoosier and American racer want to compete for their loyalty or just leave it open and let everyone do their thing. My choice. Fuel. Leave it open and run what you want. I know what I would do and it sure wouldn't be expensive exotic overpriced stuff. This is just my opinion but I have been around it long enough to see what works and what don't. As far as Mercer. With them exploring on ideas for a fifth division and idea I had borrows on what's running now. Instead of a weekly division do a split division. One being what Rocky said with a crate mod but dirt or rush legal and the other an open wingless Sprint. Just alternate weeks and give the classes a chance to grow.crate mods are the fastest growing class in the area and wingless for the first year sure took off. Only way anyone would know if it would take off is try it.

Many have made the comment on how a claim rule won't work. Wrong, wrong and wrong

You put a fair price on let's say a carb. 1000.00 anyone that has been around this sport knows that the spenders will pay a lot more for a carb. that will out perform the little guy.

You can put it on shocks, motor top ends, ignitions. Make guys run the same RR and RF all night.

And you know what it takes to make all this happen ???

A PROMOTOR WITH BALLS. Write it in the book and follow the rules. Team rush would not want to see that. That's basically what they have done. Vicki is a smart business lady.

Under the current rules the carb we are mandated to run is the most basic carb on the market. I ran the same RF all year and its nothing to get more than 5 nights on a RR. Switching to DIRT rules will cost the RUSH racer a minium of $2500 to switch over.

Rockey, Is one set of rules so much faster then the other?

Why can't you let racers in your series run either or any combination of both?  It would lead to three sets of rules.  You run dirt, rush or any combination of the two.  The combination might be called "Open Modified 602 Crate".  Ain't the big deal the sealed engine anyway?  '

With any series to be successful like BOSS you need to do things to "INCLUDE" as many racers as possible, NOT LIMIT !

Claim rules do not work, and have never worked and it has nothing to do with the promoter. The racers all agree not to claim each orhers stuff and it gets out of control quick.
