I've heard rumblings about a boycott concerning Lernerville's purse.  Does anybody have any info on this?

Last week's sprint winner gave the Thomsons an ultimatum and took his family and a few others with him. Personally, I think everyone handled it badly, the Matus family for taking their marbles and leaving and the owners for suspending drivers who sided with the Matus family, but were willing to race. I agree that the payouts need to go up, but an ultimatum was not the way to do it. These people need to talk to each other. That's what made Lernerville the track that it is, and the lack of that is what has Lernerville declining.

I have my criticisms of the way the Thomsons are handling things, but they are new to this and I saw signs Friday that they are willing to listen to the drivers and fans. Time will tell, assuming that time isn't up.

My dad drove late models in the early 70's at North Hills, Butler, Mercer, Blanket Hill, and occasionally Tri City. We won the last late model track championship at Blanket Hill.

How would do you think lernerville would benefit adding crate lates to the fab 4 on Friday nights,is there a local track that runs them on Fridays, we would have our car there on friday nights

More payout with the same income, plus more laps on the track. The drivers are already protesting the purse. If you are suggesting replacing a division with another crate division, the one they have now has already reduced the racing and replacing one of the existing divisions with crate lates, (unless it's the crate stocks), will be less money with more payout. Crates make it easier for fans to stay home. Less gate money and fewer eyeballs for the sponsors.

Maybe the matus clan should go back out on the all star circuit. They don't mind watching A mains from the stands. Jerry many many years ago tried pulling this same crap. Tow out to ohio or better yet port royal. That big shinny hauler loves to eat diesel fuel. No weekly track left in western pa beside lernerville. If you want to run specials only then do so.

jo73 WOW man you need to calm down. It is their choice to not race there, it is their car, their hauler and their money. Man just let it go. It will work out. JMOP.

I think jo was plenty calm, and he is right.  So are you.  Anyone who owns the equipment can race for any money they choose, but you may have to travel to find it.  Traveling costs money too, though.

I don't pretend to know the ins and outs of this particular situation, but from what I've read it seems that instead of folks making a choice to race where they desire and leaving it at that, it's become a situation where shame is implied (or directly stated, again, I don't know) for racing for (or paying out) someone else's version of too little money instead of letting everyone decide for himself.

If at first you don't succeed, then maybe you just suck.

Every driver, every owner knows what the pay out has been at lernerville for years. At one time anybody that was somebody would be in the pits at lernerville. Yea those times are long gone, mostly by poor management choices.

To hold a track hostage is just plain crap. I would raise the purse. Then I would also BAN the ones that started it. Do you think that would light a fire under his ass. I betcha.

Having an "us against them" mentality is the opposite of what needs done. The Thomsons need to listen to the fans and drivers, and not Rush, (the only thing Rush is doing is making themselves money at the cost of the sport, and we all know it), and the drivers need to hear out the Thomsons. They really might not be able to pay more.

I rarely side with the Thomsons, but they just might be doing everything they can in this case. Either way a temper tantrum from either side is not the solution.

Same story different year.  I think it was 1964 That Curtis Turner and the Flocks tried to start a Nascar union.  I think Big Bill  banned Turner for a year or so.  The only thing i will say is i went to lernervilles website to see their payout.  It say its on Page 7 of the rules.  Go to Page 7...Blank!  That to me is suspicious!  That makes me think it must be LOW!.  Every other track lists its payout.  Some might be better off not to. All I can say is Port Royal Speedway on a consistant basis gets full fields of car in every division.  They list their payout .  I think its one of the best around.  Thats why they get the cars...Hint  Hint!   You get the cars...you get the people...Hint  Hint!  The next thing is maybe they could raise the payout if they got rid of the stupid WoO rules and association.  And get rid of any tire rule.  That alone may encourage more cars.  Just My .02

A comment on front Gate money spending:

If Lernerville looses sprints i'll simply head over to Attica on fridays.

Fact is I won't drive the hour and 15 minutes to Lernerville without sprint racing but I will drive 2 hours to Eriez on sundays to watch even without sprints.

A comment on back gate money spent:

I've been going there for about 30 years and first started paying for pits each week at Lernerville in 2001 and felt welcomed there.

Then things changed with the sale of the track.

The the pit gate cost went up and the front gate fans I saw in the pits every week to bs with were no longer around.  It became we could give a shit less if anyone shows up or not, the welcome was gone and the cost to go their went up.  From reading on here I'm not the only one who feels the change at Lernerville since Dirt to were head shit and we don't need anyone because of it.

What fans need to realize if they don't already is tow money and payout weather low or not is an important part of going racing.  DAM, every racer who goes to race anywhere should at LEAST get enough back after the race to take their crew to McDonalds.

Someone mentioned 305's at Lernerville.  There welcomed at most any 410 race.

The only cars not welcomed are those which run on dangerous gasoline and those which have to have a battery to race and ignite the dangerous gasoline.  Historically the spirit and intent is if it don't look like a sprint car and run on alcohol it's not a sprint car.  Shouldn't matter what you bring to race top dollar or junk yard stuff, if it's a sprint car run it.

I hope 50 305's show up to run with 410's.  The C and B mains will sort things out without any problem.

Just curious as to what constitutes dangerous gasoline ? ........I just assumed that all 410 sprints ran on alcohol .....but what do I know....guess ya learn something new everyday... .....

Well, Lernerville drew 15 sprints tonight 5/24. Some might say that is a light car count. They need to pay like they do in Central Pa, so they will get tons of sprint cars.

Guess what, Williams Grove, the mecca of Central Pa sprint car racing paid $4771 to win tonight. They drew 19 sprints.

In my opinion, fans wont continue to go to Lernerville with low car counts, they better do something to get things straighten out. My Friday nights entertainment has changed and Ive been going to Lernerville for 45 years.
