What's better getting 1500 back having to win a feature with a second car making the feature or have a guaranteed $600 bringing two cars through the back gate?

My bet is a guaranteed $600 for a two car team is the better deal with my suggested payout schedule.

My guess is many teams will find a second driver pulling spare cars out of the trailer to race.  Do we as fans care if we get to watch big fields of cars even though many of them are second cars.  HECK NO !   Actually as a fan it adds to the excitement wondering if a team's second car will beat it's top car.

This might even make the norm to be two car teams which is NOT BAD for both car counts and the racing fans come to see.

Tracks might make a rule you only get $300 tow money if you finish in a heat race, otherwise it's $100.  But I think eventually with the idea given time to establish itself, the additional fan tickets sold and number of pit passes sold will keep tracks from having to make such a rule.

Second cars ... whatever .. Its 50/50 Car and Driver .. best car doesnt matter most of the time ... but it helps .. like you said more cars is better for watching racing !

Dont know anything about this boycott but no Sprint Cars = Who cares about Lernerville !

So those that decided to boycott, due to weather possibly, stayed home Friday night and did not race at all this weekend ?

Ds2. You understand travel costs and pit costs. So what does it cost a team to tow out into ohio or central pa ?

I guarantee you that towing to central pa and let's say Freemont is going to cost teams a greater lose than being a contender on Friday night.

I can't guess what it would cost with a top quality rig today.  Years ago, a lot of years ago now, Scott Bonnell told me it cost him $800 each race to take his rig from Erie to race in our area.

With car counts down out east as reported and if you can either race in or just get in features by tracks needing cars, it would PAY for a low budget team to go race out east to race instead of locally.  YES track payout and tow money DOES even today make a difference.

Without additional car count fans will soon loose interest in the 3, 4, 5,  or maybe 6 if were lucky high dollar sprint cars they can watch race locally.

It might even pay for a high dollar team from here to go out east to race but I don't know current cost numbers for high dollar rigs.

edit:  In the past my understanding is towing out east you could expect to be able to race 4 nights for good start money if you considered regular shows and a traveling possie show somewhere usually being scheduled.  It's not that way out east anymore

Lernerville is in a better position today to put itself back in the Don Martin type lime light drawing cars from both east and west for a Friday night show then it was 20 years ago.  20 years ago this area was the place to go for up coming stars to go get their first wins before heading either out east or west.  It ain't that way today with cookie cutter buy it from a catalog cars, engines and the good local drivers we have today in our area.  That new looking named car and driver who shows up today, ain't sure of a win like they pretty much were in the past.

TAKE CARE OF THE DRIVERS AND CAR OWNERS, and the front gate will take care of itself !

I agree they need to pay more, but I also see their side. They have to consider their overhead money going out each month. You have to remember this is a business for them and a hobby for you! So the main question is how do you keep the Fans and Drivers, car owners happy and still not lose their BUTTS.

Want more money for the feature purse? Do away with tow money. If you can't race your car in the heat and start either the B main or the A main, you don't get paid.

Mike.......Few tracks have to pay any tow money for a weekly show anymore. Not enough cars, everyone there starts the main!!!   Might work for Lernerville Sprints, but few other places.

GOOD RACING!!!

Walt
