Richards is in the chassis business. He sees that weekly racing is on the decline and that will cut into his potential customer base, so hes doing what he can to try keep people buying his cars.
I doubt he has any actual affinity for crate motors.
If you read the article he flatly states it's not about selling Rocket Chassis it's about keeping people racing which has been pointed out numerous times to morons like Jo, dirtstudent sparker etc. Yes Mark is a business man, but has been in the sport for 3 decades plus so what he has to say should be taken with some merit. Keywords this motor would keep people RACING who otherwise would be on the sidelines.

Amen. He knows the super late model class is on the decline which means his business will be on the decline soon too. The only other type of race car that would use his chassis is a crate late model. So he will be the next Vicky preaching how great crate racing is to line his pocket just like she does. Take that to the bank.
Yes I'm sure Mark Richards is about to go out of business because super late models on a local level are pretty much done.

Just maybe,,,,,, he should have thought this out BEFORE he started charging 30K plus for a new XR1 roller. This chassis design has single handedly destroyed the used car market!! The 525 is a novel idea, but we don't need another late model division, we need asses in the seats....
Just my opinion,,,,,,

I do remember Rayburn talking about going down the 525 route recently also.
Say whatever you want chrome, I didn't see him mention the current crate situation one time.He is a smart guy and he's not going to get caught up in that deal. He feels the 525 should be the right choice as do some others.

I did read the article. He sees the benefits of the motor as option for weekly super late model racers, but states that super late model racing on the regional and national level is great. He also mentioned that theyre going to start offering crate motors through Rocket, so hes monetizing them as well.
Im not blaming or knocking him at all. One of the biggest reasons Rocket is so successful is Richards ability to change and adapt to the market better than anybody else in the business.

When's the Rocket Crate Chassis coming out to reduce the cost of Super Late racing even further by being the speck chassis and only chassis allowed?
I can see Super Late racing being split even more:
1. What is now WoO/Lucas type Super Late racing.
2. A new Richards speck chassis and crate engine class marketed to those who currently bring top dollar cars to crate late racing, by also reducing chassis cost. It will also take additional customers from the lower ranks of Super Late racing.
3. The third class will be so called traditional crate Late racing with crate engines a catch all class open to used chassis per WoO/Lucas rules and also open to used crate chassis certified per serial number to be more then maybe 5 years old. This class will be aimed at those who cannot afford a new or recertified speck chassis.
Edit: Years ago in Georgia I saw local racing with three kinds of Lates plus 4cylinders. The first was regular super lates. The second was steel block Lates and the third was steel block lates with the back end closed up. No stocks, modifieds or anything else except three classes of lates and front wheel drive cars. The actual racing was just as good as anything else you would choose to watch.

The argument is not about hating crates or any other type of racing.
The discussion is about if crate racing which caters to a "specific market group of racers" hurts established classes of racing which are open to pocket books of all weights.
I think all racers from who ain't got a pot to pee in to those who own the mint should be able to scrounge up and put together something to race. You can't do that with speck racing marketed to a specific income level and up which is far above the level of I ain't got a pot to pee in.

Richards isnt proposing a new class. Hes just advocating its usage in weekly super late model racing if thats all somebody can afford. He even admits that theyd probably be outgunned when WoO/Lucas comes to town.

Is there a reason other then performance crate lates or limited lates don't for instance run at Learnerville to fill the class?

It's mostly performance.

Which motor is richards going to offer ? The 525 or the series motor ?
Chuck Hummer is running a 525 on the woo tour, or was, I believe with a rayburn chassis. He's not competitive but he's out there.

Seems like your time could be better spent
It is...on camping, hiking, RVing and traveling. I think I went to 6 races last year (twice at Stateline, twice at Five Mile Point, once at Bradford, once at Woodhull), none so far this year. I come to this site once a week or so out of habit, I guess, since it used to be a daily ritual. This after investing nearly 50 years years as a fan, racer (with all of 3 feature wins and one or two handfuls of heat race wins) and pit crew member.
I just don't give a shit about it anymore.
Run into the the wee hours of the morning while dusting out the local municipality. Then whine on the internet anonymously.
I couldn't care less!
Though I am quoting you, Hot Dog, this response isn't necessarily directed to you. I am just taking your advice!
Note: As a preemptive strike to those who will say, "you say you don't care, but here you are commenting on this topic", I am trying to break a nearly 5 decade long habit. I am much happier than I thought I would be about it.

Debating topics endlessly can change minds
Extreme example
Slavery
But with Crates
They are great for the latemodel prototype class and Sprints because there is an extreme gap in the open motor latemodel and Sprint car motor
I struck am aposed to mandating you buy one to run a stock car
When you could all race together with a simple weight advantage
JMO
But ya the time be better spent at the school board meetings saving America
But thst is really noziating
So this is much easier on the heart and soul
