Lernerville points question

Interesting conversations on here and I miss the 'green' cars not being there to root for just knowing one would get a win !
 
Is the total points you could gain on another car then 40 as Waltt seems to be alluding too?
 
That seems like a lot to be able to gain on another car for a championship by either the other car breaking or maybe being taken out !
 
just seems like being able to gain 40 on another car in one race night ain't right????  I can't figure out the maximum you could gain from their site.

With a full field of cars and only 24 make the feature:

Heat race points: 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1

Feature points: 30, 28, 26, 24, 22, 20, 19, 18, 17, 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2

One can gain 40 points in a night.  30 in the feature and ten in the heat.   Two weeks ago Flick failed to start the feature with electrical problems. Any driver winning both the feature and their heat that night would have gained 40 points on him.  Back in the 50s in the NASCAR days at local tracks, there were no points for heat races and 48 points for the feature win with a drop off of 1 or 2 points per position.  In the late 60s Mercer gave one point for each dollar earned. If you won the main and got $500, you got 500 points.   In the 70s I kept points there for a while and set it up that the winner got 100 points with bigger drops between positions in the top five, then from sixth on down it was a five point drop off per position.    The bottom line is that there are many different point systems in use over the years and differences between tracks. And then some tracks give the points to the driver while some give them to the car regardless who is driving it!!.

IMHO, award the points to the car makes sense in local, hobby racing. If the driver has to work late or goes on vacation there is no points penalties that way. 



My dad drove late models in the early 70's at North Hills, Butler, Mercer, Blanket Hill, and occasionally Tri City. We won the last late model track championship at Blanket Hill.

Yes, but I still remember one year in PRA Harold Smith got all the honors for a point title when he only drove the car about a half season or less!!!   Of course with today's high cost of racing we have few car owners who "hire" a driver for their car. Most cars are owned by the driver or family.

Walt help me out on this, did Harold Smith fly in to race, from Florida. I can not remember if it was him or not.

I don't think so as he was from either Columbus or Dayton, Ohio.

40 points is the max one car could gain, ( winning heat & feature )  IF the other car in question does NOT even show up...  Even if cars DNF in feature they would get some points for feature...  I think only top 5 get heat race points??  ( not 100% on that )
