Just found out that Ernie passed away last week. The guy had dirt in his veins, was with junkyard Jimmy fass for many many years. RIP Ernie, you did it your way

Ernie and Jimmy raced in a fun era, when you could build you own stuff, incorporate your own ideas and maybe make a little money.

On a related note, there was another obit in the Trib the same day as Ernie;s. A guy by the name of George Stettmier. I'm 100% sure he raced in the old Sporsman Coupe days at Lernerville, then maybe later on in the 6-cylinders, even though his obit didn't mention it. He was from Butler and worked at Pullman Standard. Maybe Walt remembers him.

I talked to Ernie a few years ago at the Clearview Mall car show.

My dad drove late models in the early 70's at North Hills, Butler, Mercer, Blanket Hill, and occasionally Tri City. We won the last late model track championship at Blanket Hill.

George's name in familiar, but can't put him with a car!!     Condolences to Ernie's family, my wife worked with his wife years ago before they were married.

Jimmy was actually a much better driver than he ever got credit for. He raced because he loved it and had fun with it, but he refused to spend like a drunken sailor.

So true Skull. Jimmy and Ernie made a good pair. Memory isn't what it was but I think at one time they had 3 cars that they could get on track after a all nighter.
