Brad Sweet bested a field of Thirty-four (34) 410 Sprint Cars at Lernerville Speedway's Don Martin Memorial this evening, taking the lead from Sye Lynch on lap 12, and beating 2nd place finisher, Donny Schatz, to the line by 5.381 seconds.  Hats off to the track crew, the racing surface was excellent. Fast qualifier was Sye Lynch, who stopped the clock at 12.543 seconds.  The rains came just as the checkered flag fell.  Results as follows:

Hats off to Sye Lynch. Fast time, really did surprise me. Wins his heat, I was impressed. Draws the pole for the dash and puts a can of woop ass on the top 10 woo regulars. Wins by over 2.6 seconds. The first 12 laps of that feature had me rooting for this kid so hard. The track started to slick off and he wasn't able to keep up with it. Greatest run by a local since his dad won it all. Hold your head high Sye Lynch, a little more experience and hopefully you both can have a Don Martin trophy.

There was passing, just not so much for the first three spots. Compared to the last couple of years, this one was a snoozer, no doubt.

I see where 1 guy flipped 1/4 of the way through and got all of the way back up to 10th, another advanced 10 spots, another 7 spots, etc. The winner came from 3rd. So I'm a wondering how was it a " CHOO CHOO " race then ?

Let's face it when you have 34 cars they're not all quality. So that is how some of these guys made so many moves.

Considering that it was Sheldon Haudenschild who flipped and rejoined the race, nothing about it should have been surprising.

Every Heat Race, The Dash, and the B Main were a race to Turn 1 and then follow the leader.   The feature was nearly that way also.    Boring night of racing.

When the track is fast and hammer-down, as it was early on, you don't see much passing.  However, there was plenty of passing in the main event as evidenced by the starts and finishes of the various drivers.  And when one driver is so dominant on a given night, as Sweet was last evening, the race for the lead is not going to be very exciting.  For myself, I enjoyed the racing program. I don't expect to see the "race of the year" every time I go to an event.  The alternative would be to have the track very slick and slow, and that would have had plenty of people bitching.

Only 25 started the A-Main, and most of the slower cars started toward the back.  So the cars that advanced passed good cars, not the slower cars.

Isn't the goal to time trial well and earn the right to start up front in your heat and win ? On some nights things just seem to work just right for that to happen the way it should. Maybe some fans only watch the front row cars in  race and not the whole field where some of the best racing is occurring ? Maybe not able to get the '"big picture" ? Might reconsider attending on Friday night if it going to be TRAIN racing !

Once again, only 25 cars started the A-Main, no one having laps times like Davey Jones made the race.  The "slower" cars in last night's race were still damn good.  The attrition rate last night was rather small and two of the cars, Michael Bauer and Brent Matus were out of the race in 5 or 6 laps.  So, all of the drivers who moved forward, Brad Sweet, Donny Schatz, James Mc Fadden, Logan Schuchart, Tim Shaffer, and Carl Bowser, passed "good" cars, they didn't advance by passing a lesser caliber of driver.  As to you comment of whether I think Davey Jones will pass Donny Schatz, I have no idea what you're talking about as it related to my post.  You obviously missed my point regarding hammer-down versus slick track

Well, they work as hard as any local team, but every team experiences a down year. I have no doubt they'll figure it out.

I've said this for years about national touring qualifying formats. They favor the cars that support their series'. I hate it, but I also understand it.

I mean, consider that the heats started at 7:30 and they dropped the checker on the feature at 9:12. That's four heats, a dash, a LCQ and the feature in under an hour and forty-five minutes. That is another situation that favored the experienced teams.

 

The rush to get the show in also made me wonder about Sheldon Haudenschild's flip. The red flag never came out. We were yelling at the flagman because we thought he wasn't aware. I think he was told to display the yellow so the cars didn't have to get pushed off which would have taken about ten minutes. I could see the flagman shaking his head as if he was disgusted. I didn't particularly care for how they handled that situation. I mean, Little Haud could've been hurt.

He was out of the car before anyone even got to him. If you werent sitting in turn 4 you would have never knew he flipped.
