About Me
Started attending races about 1951, at the age of 9.
Lived in Balto Md from 62 till 66, worked at GM plant there.
Started at GM Lordstown Oh. 3/66, retired in 1993.
Now at 70, I own a 2bbl emod, number 91. 91 in honor of my deceased brother-in-law A.V.Bud Crum. My son-in-law Jeff Christy drives my car at Sharon Speedway. My number was always 92, but to honor the memory of Uncle Bud, I take his number for my remaining years.
I started racing in 1968, raced myself until 1988, since then have had a driver in my car ever since.
I've had a race car & competed every year since 68, except 80, during a divorce.
Won maybe 25 features, raced both dirt & asphalt tracks. Our plans are to race at Sharon Speedway next year, as the costs of traveling are too much for my meager pention, & SSI.
Either me or my drivers have raced at; Canfield, Sharon, Hickory, Barberton, Sandusky, St Clairesville, Knox, Tri City, Raceway 7, Painesville, Mercer, Lorain County, Expo, Wayne County, Columbus Mtr Speedway, Motordrome, Mansfield, North Hills, and some I may have forgotten. In the late 70's we raced at Raceway 7 on the dirt, (3 features/ 1 a 35 lap mid/season championship) and at Sharon on the asphalt & finished 4th in points on the asphalt half mile at Sharon 2 years in succession, and in 1978 also the with the same car, & never changed a spring in the chassis. We just turned the screws, changed tires, windshield, & windowscreen, and raced. Finished 7th in points at Raceway, 4th in points at Sharon.
Some of my highlites were winning the Charles and George Findlay Sportsmanship Award ftom Competitive Auto Racing Club of Cincinnati, for the 1974-75 season. C.A.R. was the forerunner to become the Twin State Auto Racing Club in 1976. I had been TS President for 4 years, then became V.Prez for 1 yr, now in 2011 just a Board member, then next year will be membership secretary, then thats IT!!! Signmaned has followed me as President and still is. I was recently inducted into the Twin State Hall of Fame. Quite an honor, confirmation will occur at the TS Banquet in late November 2011. I have been richly decorated by the Club. 5 times won the good guy award, once the Findlay Sportsmanship Award, and a couple years ago the Russ King Memorial Owner of the year award. I am blessed, truly I am.
I've raced for 43 years, starting number 44 next year. I will race as long as it's humanly possible. My driver & son-in-law does all the maintainance on the car, as I have limited mobility because of a damaged back. When Jeff quits, I quit, because I couldn't do it without him. Jeff's Father, John Christy does the engine preparation, with some help from Miner's Performance, in Lordstown, and B & B Performance Machine, in Warren Oh, helping with machine work. I will be Eternally Grateful to those folks, because without their help none of this would be possible. I thank the Lord for anything I may have accomplished in racing, because it truly has been a labor of love. Dick Berry.
Thats about all. Me & God will ride it like we find it till Jesus comes for me. Until then, I will live love, laugh,
and enjoy every day God gives me. Its been a great ride so far, and we're not through yet.

RACING, not nascar though. But I live & breathe stock car racing. Not so much Sprints, or emods. Even though I own a 2bbl emod, I'm still not thrilled with returning to dirt, after a 15 year absence. We'll see how things go this year coming up, 2012. Maybe it'll grow on me, again.

Sharon Number 91 economod-for 2 seasons
18 February 2014 - 04:00 PM
We came from asphalt, & decided to try dirt racing. Took this car on trade.
It's a 2008 KPS Chassis emod, by Jimmy Owens. Very versitile chassis, can be adjusted to kingdom come, z-link, 4-bar, lots of potential. The last summer at Sharon the straw that broke the camels back took place
place when on a restart, we took a hit from behind, that almost tore off the right front, necessitating re-clipping the front frame section, when someone tried to win the race under caution.
We were on the outside of a 7 car log-jam, stopped momentarily then got hit, from behind, by someone apparently trying to win the race,,,,under caution.
It was the final disappointment, & I've lost interest. We put a new clip on the front, stripped it to powder coat it, & that's where it sits, on the trailer. Rear end housing (9in) only has about 4 nights on it.
Fuel cell new that spring, had to add weight to pass tech. Good car, I'm asking $2900. I hope its worth that . Just needs some stuff put back on the chassis, check it out.
Sold the running gear, like to get rid of car. It ran great, just got to be a chore, because I'm handicaped, & can't do much. Must Go! Good car, I Don't know how to put on pix, but I have
a bunch on my web, & I can forward them from it. Send to circletrackfan@yahoo.com & I'll forward the pictures. Dick Berry. Car sat last season.
