Ford has a viable 347 crate motor that is used on asphalt.The GM motor distributors have too strong a hold on the dirt crate series for them to allow it.

It is all about tire sales. Last years open tire rule was great for the racers, but not for tire sales. This year you cannot use your left over tires from last year, but instead have to spend $150 per tire for 6 or 7 tires and hope to pick up some point money at the end of the season.
