The Flyin Ryan race team headed up to Sharon Speedway as part of the Rush Dirt Late Model race series to participate in the Memorial Wildcard Weekend. Saturday, May 25, 2013, got off to a good start but would be short lived. Ryan ran second in his heat race and upon redraw, was put into the dash. finishing third in the dash secured him spot number 3 for the feature race among a field of thirty-one. Ryan and his High Gear Speed Shop Warrior had a great run. Ryan remained very competitive throughout the race holding onto third spot. As the leading pack entered into heavy lap traffic on lap 18, the leader had contact with one of the lap cars and started a massive domino effect much like Talladega. Ryan was sent air born, spun around and then took a full speed direct hit to the drivers side. The car was finished but we are thankful that Ryan walked away with a few bumps and bruises. We can't say enough about the fine paramedic crew at Sharon. They were incredible! The #12 Warrior Crate car did exactly what it was suppose to do. Ryan was well protected by the car's cage, his full enclosed seat and neck restraint. Without a doubt, this was the worst wreck Ryan has ever been involved in. The car was hit so many times and in so many different directions, it was left a mangled mess. So bad in fact, we couldn't even get it into the hauler. At no fault of his, Ryan ended up with a 20th place finish. We weren't sure what Sunday, May 26th would bring and how Ryan would be feeling but he woke up more determined than ever! The Flyin Ryan Race Team rolled out the back up car and went to work. Ryan won his heat race and upon redraw, started fifth in the feature. It was a very exciting race and very competitive. Ryan Worked his way up through the field to the second spot. The leading spot was traded back and forth a few times but Ryan pulled all the right moves and around lap 21 of the 25-lap race, he sealed a feature win! Ryan, crew, and family couldn't have been more excited and proud! This weekend brought with it a wide spectrum of emotions-ranging from excitement, to fear, to anger and finally pride. A great reminder to us all to take nothing for granted and never give up! The 2013 season has already proven to be an exciting roller coaster ride.
