Homak Penn Ohio Series 2015 Preview

20 February 2015 - 09:00 AM

(New Castle, PA)  After an extremely successful inaugural 2014 racing season, series director Shaun Hooks has been busy making plans for an even bigger year in 2015 for the Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series.  “My goal for 2015 is to have 11 races at 11 different race tracks.  I anticipate that there will be a lot of new names committing to run the series along with some new race tracks, including Dog Hollow and Thunder Mountain” stated Hooks.    In its first season, the series turned a lot of heads with the participants, sponsors and fans as for the first time, the Stock Car class received some earned recognition.  Additionally, Hooks was able to obtain several sponsors who added more than $15,000 in cash and prizes for the series’ races and a $10,000 point fund was split at season’s end.

Chris Schneider (Springdale, PA) earned the lion’s share of the point fund and was crowned the 2014 Series Champion.  Along with the title Chris dominated the second half of the season, picking up four (4) wins, along with three (3) second place finishes and defeated Rusty Martz for the season championship. Martz, along with Chris Withers, Shaun Faucett, Shaun Hooks, Curt Bish and Jim Fosnaught carried the checkered flag at the 10 series’ events.  All are expected back to compete for the 2015 crown, in fact Hooks is expecting between 25 and 30 drivers to compete for the championship!  Hooks expects several new competitors including Andy Buckley, Leigh Wheeler, Terry Wheeler and Chris Haines.  Based on the level of series competitors the point fund should be near $15,000!

All interested series competitors should contact Shaun Hooks at (724) 730-1623 and get registered for the season.  The registration fee will again be $500.00 and will be due at signing although Hooks will allow ½ of the fee to be paid now and the other ½ prior to the first race.  The 2015 schedule will be released in the near future as several tracks are still completing their schedules.

The Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series will feature at least 11 events located in Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania at various tracks utilizing the tracks rules and format. Registered Drivers for the series will receive points towards the year end championship and point fund nearing $15,000. Additional Sponsorships and contingency program opportunities are still available. Homak Penn Ohio Series Championship Weekend

10 September 2014 - 06:50 PM

(New Castle, PA) The Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Series will conclude its first season this weekend as part of the annual Apple Festival Nationals at Sharon Speedway this Friday and Saturday (September 12 and 13) with two complete programs each paying $1,250.00. While Series director and racer Shaun Hooks is still racing for a championship, based upon the success of the series, he already feels great about the accomplishment.  “The whole thing started as just an idea in the offseason and at first you never know what the reaction will be, but based upon the support we have gotten from our sponsors, especially Homak, the racers and the race tracks, I am so happy that I decided to pursue this series.  I hope that the championship comes down to the final few laps on Saturday night and everyone walks away looking forward to next year.”

The series has seen 7 different winners in the first 8 events with only series points’ leader Chris Schneider winning more than once taking the checkers at Expo and Mercer Raceway Park.  Other series registered drivers winning races include Chris Withers, Hooks, Rusty Martz and Shaun Faucett.   The point battle is very close with anyone of the top nine (9) having a chance to win the title.  Chris Schneider is in the drivers seat with a six (6) point advantage over Rusty Martz and a more comfortable 25 point lead over Shaun Faucett.  Third through ninth are only separated by 23 points and with the mulligan system in place eliminating the worst finish of the season, the final results could shuffle dramatically.  The series has also had very good support with an average of 31 cars at each event with a series high 46 at PPMS for the Ed Laboon memorial back on Memorial Day Weekend.

Homak has again stepped up in a big way as they are not only the series title sponsor, they have donated two GOLSS Blue 36" H2Pro 2pc Combo Toolbox’ valued at $1,799 each, one to be given away to a lucky fan on Friday night and one to a lucky Stock Car driver on Saturday night!  “I just can’t say enough about the support from Homak” stated Hooks “They have been a great title sponsor and have made the series even more special, adding prizes for both the racers and the fans.” In addition the support from Homak, Scott Hooks from Hooks Auto and good friend Richard Janovick have donated an additional $300.00 to the winner of Friday nights feature in memory of his brother Jim, and Rick Robinson has added $500.00 to the mix, making each race $1,250.00 to win. “This means an awful lot to me with my brother, Richard and Rick adding the money in memory of my brother Jim and as part of my series” noted Hooks.  In addition, the normal contingency awards, $50.00 compliments of GM Roofing will be awarded to the hard charger and a certificate valued at $50.00 sponsored by Wedge Motorsports will go to the driver with the toughest luck. CD Gibbs will again sponsor the fast time out of the heat races with a $50.00 Award. Penn Ohio Series @ Lernerville 9/6

04 September 2014 - 07:53 AM

(New Castle, PA) The Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series will make its first trip to the
famed Lernerville Speedway this Saturday, September 6th for series race number eight of ten as part of the
Autumn-Motive Fest 2014 weekend. “It certainly is an honor for Lernerville to host our series,” noted
series director Shaun Hooks. “I know the guys are looking forward to running at Lernerville and I think
we will have a great field of cars, especially since this is a $2,000 to win race!”

To date, the series has had seven events with six different winners with only Chris Schneider winning
twice (Mercer & Expo) while Hooks, Rusty Martz, Chris Withers, & Shaun Faucett have scored points’
paying wins. The series point battle is still wide open with Rusty Martz on top of the standings by only
eight (8) over Chris Schneider with the top nine only separated by 37 points. The series uses a “mulligan
system,” eliminating the driver’s worst finish, so there can be dramatic changes after any one event,
leaving the title still up in the air. The series has also received very good car counts with an average 30
cars per event and never less than a full field of pro stock cars. “I am very pleased with car counts and
support thus far.” Stated Hooks “I have to thank all the series sponsors, especially Homak Inc., for
supporting this concept and allowing the pro stock class to get some great recognition.”

In addition to the race purse, again paying $2,000 to win, the normal contingency awards, $50.00
compliments of GM Roofing will be awarded to the hard charger and a certificate valued at $50.00
sponsored by Wedge Motorsports will go to the driver with the toughest luck. CD Gibbs will again
sponsor the fast time out of the heat races with a $50.00 Award. For more information on Lernerville
Speedway, visit their website at www.lernerville.com . There is no rain date for this event. Gates will
open at 4:00 PM with the racing action starting at 6:00 PM. Also on the card is the RUSH modifieds and
a Demo Derby. All Penn Ohio Pro Stock Apparel has been reduced for this weekend. Shirts are now
$15.00 and Hoodies are now $30.00 and will be available at Lernerville.

The Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series will feature at least 10 events located in Eastern
Ohio and Western Pennsylvania at various tracks utilizing the tracks rules and format. Registered Drivers
for the series will receive points towards the year end championship with a guaranteed $10,000 point
fund. Additional Sponsorships and contingency program opportunities are still available. For more

Homak Penn Ohio Series Back at MRP Sunday August 24!

20 August 2014 - 07:39 PM

(New Castle, PA) The Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series is set to make a return trip to Mercer Raceway Park this Sunday, August 24th.  After back to back rainouts of the first scheduled visit, Chris Schneider became the series first repeat winner with a dominating performance at MRP on the 10th of August.  The first visit drew 24 cars with 17 of those registered series drivers.  “I love Mercer Raceway Park and although the first visit did not go well for me, it was great for the series and I am sure all the guys are ready to resume the championship battle” stated Series Director and racer Shaun Hooks.

The event at the Park is a $500.00 to win race sponsored by series sponsor Homak Inc.  “I cannot thank Homak enough for coming along and sponsoring this series” noted Hooks “They have added so much value and have been a great partner.  Check out all they have to offer at their website www.homakmfg.com or like them on Facebook.”  In addition, the normal contingency awards, $50.00 compliments of GM Roofing will be awarded to the hard charger and a certificate valued at $50.00 sponsored by Wedge Motorsports will go to the driver with the toughest luck. CD Gibbs will again sponsor the fast time out of the heat races with a $50.00 Award.  For more information on Mercer Raceway Park, visit their website at www.mercerracewaypark.com.

The series uses a Mulligan Point system as the championship standings allow any registered driver’s worst finish to be thrown out, thus after six events, the standings are posted with the driver’s five best finishes and Rusty Martz is currently leading the standings over Shaun Hooks by nineteen (19) points and Chris Schneider by twenty-two (22) points.  The top ten drivers are only separated by forty-six (46) points so the championship is still wide open, and the points can really change based upon the mulligan system.  Chris Schneider is the only repeat winner with wins at Expo & Mercer, while Rusty Martz scored the win at PPMS, Hooks at Eriez and Chris Withers won at Raceway 7.  Non-Registered driver Curt Bish won the opener at PPMS, the Ed Laboon Memorial.

The Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series will feature at least 10 events located in Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania at various tracks utilizing the tracks rules and format. Registered Drivers for the series will receive points towards the year end championship with a guaranteed $10,000 point fund. Homak Series Prepares for Doubleheader

06 August 2014 - 10:46 AM

(New Castle, PA) After four successful series events, the Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series suffered back to back rainouts at Mercer Raceway Park during July, setting up a doubleheader weekend with an event Saturday, July 9th at Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Motor Speedway and Sunday, August 10th at Mercer Raceway Park.  “It seems like forever since the series held an event, so I am hoping for good weather and two successful events” noted series director Shaun Hooks.

The event at Pittsburgh will be a 20 lap, $1,000.00 to win race with up to 32 cars starting.  Earlier this year, the series debut, the 3rd Annual Ed Laboon Memorial was held at PPMS and a whopping 46 cars entered the event, so a full field of Homak Penn Ohio Series Drivers are expected.  Sponsors for this PPMS race are Hooks Auto and Taylor Auto Body.  In addition to the normal pay, $50.00 compliments of GM Roofing will be awarded to the hard charger and a certificate valued at $50.00 sponsored by Wedge Motorsports will go to the driver with the toughest luck. CD Gibbs will again sponsor the fast time out of the heat races with a $50.00 Award. For more information on Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway, visit their website at www.ppms.com.

On Sunday July 27th the series will move to Mercer Raceway Park as the Park has rescheduled the race lost to rain on July 13th and July 20th.  It will be the first of two stops at the park as the series will return for a second visit on August 24th.  In addition to the race purse, Rich & Freeds Auto Parts and Ingram Engines have combined to add $350.00 to the possible winnings with $200 going to the highest finishing registered Homak Penn Ohio Series Driver, followed by $100 and $50 respectively. $50.00 compliments of GM Roofing will be awarded to the hard charger and a certificate valued at $50.00 sponsored by Wedge Motorsports will go to the driver with the toughest luck. CD Gibbs will again sponsor the fast time out of the heat races with a $50.00 Award.  Two drawings will be held for a drum of VP racing fuel, compliments of Ingram Race Engines and a professional grade tool cart, courtesy of series sponsor Homak Inc.  For more information on Mercer Raceway Park, visit their website at www.mercerracewaypark.com.

The series uses a Mulligan Point system as the championship standings allow any registered driver’s worst finish to be thrown out, thus after four events, the standings are posted with the driver’s three best finishes and Rusty Martz is currently leading the standings over Shaun Hooks by one (1) point and Chris Schneider by three (3) points.  The top nine drivers are only separated by nineteen (19) points so the championship is still wide open.  Registered drivers Hooks, Schneider and Chris Withers have all scored feature wins in series events in 2014, while Curt Bish won the season opening Ed Laboon memorial at PPMS.
