In Topic: Pro Stocks verses Crate Lates?

I know the technical definition of a 3 link includes the panhard bar. I just meant they have a shock, a spring, and singular control arms versus the XR1 style 4 links found in the Crates.

No a 3 Link is just what it says it is....3 links that tie the rear end to the Chassis.  Penn ohio Pro Stocks are not allowed to Run 3 Links.  4 links and Leaf Springs only.  4 link cars must be double triangulated (can't be parallel bars like a late model.)  No bird Cages.    Just pointing this out because it's even more impressive that a Prostock running a more restricted suspension, being 500 pounds heavier throws down lap times just as fast as a car that was designed for circle track and specifically tuned for that application.  Yes the pro stocks are allowed open engines but you still have to put that power to the ground.

At the Willie White Memorial in late September both classes qualified. The pro stocks had 3 cars under 20 seconds. The crates had 9. Noah Brunell was the fastest stock at 19.755 seconds. That time was faster than all but the top 5 crate cars. Youre comparing 3 links to 4 links birdcages with panhard and lift bars and the Crates weigh 500 pounds less. I cant see them ever racing together. But it is interesting to see how fast the stocks have gotten.

Pro Stocks in this area are not allowed to run 3 Links.  They have to be double triangulated 4 links or Leaf spring cars.

I don't see Stocks running with the Crates simply because of the weight difference.  I remember when "Illegal" stocks were forced to run with the lates.  That got shot down with people's concerns that the weight difference was a safety issue.

I have mixed emotions.  Love the track, Loved going there to watch as a kid, and want to race there at some point because that's where my Dad and Pap raced.  However, like others have mentioned it's going to be tough for 3 tracks to survive on Saturday.  I wish it was possible to support them all.  I guess time will tell, but I don't look for all 3 tracks to survive if they're all fighting for the same night and the same classes.

I know I am personally excited about the idea of weekly points.  For me this means that I can compete for weekly points at two local tracks and the Penn Ohio Series.  Going to be interesting to see how guys handle the points situations.  Going to have to travel some if you want to beat a guy ahead of you in points.
