#433970 Clearfield 1/2 mile sold?

Posted by ramey36 on 28 September 2017 - 09:37 AM

Ramey here from UMI. We have indeed entered into an agreement to purchase the speedway.

Initial plans are to clean up and prepare for private auto-x and road race testing use.

Our Cruise-In auto-x event will be held there in August 2018.

The asphalt oval configuration will be preserved and used for testing. Of course we may rent to oval teams if desired.

We will also use to host local auto-x and road course clubs and possible driving schools.

A few feet of clay has been recommended 423 times so we know... :D

#429710 Four things which can hurt tracks and promoters

Posted by ramey36 on 25 April 2017 - 08:12 AM

Dick Berggren at Speedway Illustrated writes the same article every year explaining why some of the New England tracks get a full field of cars and full stands even on random Tuesday night regular shows.

I don't know why local promoters don't follow his recommendations.

Two or three classes max. Enforceable rules but not too many. Enforce consistently, even when the track owners kid cheats. Great concessions and clean restrooms. If the wife hates going because of the one porta-john overflowing...

That looks like a great place to plumb with ice water and a circulation pump...

Slapping an unaltered tire on a race car gets you the same finishes as keeping your crate engine sealed from GM...

#413876 Benny Gordon

When Benny won all the Hooters Cup races he would unload, annihilate everyone in practice, qualifying and the main event. He drove well, rarely wrecked and basically dominated the entire weekend. Many of the drivers and cars had 'Cup affiliations so his team and him definitely had some big talent to beat them.

Benny was also one of the first LM guys to bring the BBSS package up North and do well with it.

That is all.

#410066 Miley Storms to UFo Connor Bobik Make-A-Wish Race Win at Dog Hollow

Posted by ramey36 on 22 July 2015 - 07:34 AM

It was pretty cool for this memorial race to raise $7000+ in Connor's name. Make-a-wish gives kids with life threatening illnesses some moments of happiness. As a family member of a Wish receiving family I've seen firsthand how this charity helps families.

Happy Racing

#408978 Turn CNB Raceway park back to 1/2mile Dirt!!!

Posted by ramey36 on 05 July 2015 - 09:30 PM

I love the asphalt. The Super Cup races are very cool and the SCCA stuff introduces the track to a whole new audience. The speed is crazy fast when a 2-bbl late model can run 100 mph average.

When it was the shortened dirt configuration there was a lot of talk about the track being too fast and too hard on motors.

If it were to go to high banked half with late models, street stocks and 4-cylinders with a 3 division show and real track prep it would be the place to be on the east coast. Five year rules plan.

I'll support CNB regardless of the owner or surface.

I talked to Joe Mancuso with Big 10 Super Stocks at PRI. He said they'd be interested in coming down if they could fit a date with CNB. That series is pretty cool and I bet some locals would fit in with them.

During the Iceman days, 1999-2000 or so, the super lates at CNB weren't compatible with Jtown and the Drome as both were in the 2-bbl era prior to that I believe. There was also the restrictor plate era in there somewhere.

I raced my 2-bbl interchangeably at Jtown in 2000-2003 with perhaps very similar (or exactly the same) rules.

Street stocks were also similar enough to travel but with racing on the same nights we rarely mixed. I did do a few Saturday Sunday things during specials and so on, jumping from CNB to Jtown.

Street stocks have always been all over the board concerning technology. There are some older cars which would work fine and some new bump stop cars on the cutting edge of technology. The interesting part is a well set up standard car can perform extremely well. And a bump stop car can miss the setup and be mid-pack.

Back in the late 90's there were SS cars around here with Cup engineers input that would probably still be plenty fast today.

I think Rob Hindt talked with the Big 10 SS guys a bit. They would be pretty awesome to have at CNB in 2015 to accompany the Super Cup races. Some of those guys combined with our locals (they are still out there!) and perhaps some Jtown and Motordrome guys would make a full field and a nice night of racing.

And, don't forget, this race was to honor a young warrior. That's more important than some dust or some bad officiating.
