Thunder Dog 50 Final Showdown set to go at Dog Hollow

22 September 2014 - 11:35 PM

STRONGSTOWN, PA (September 8, 2014) – Plans have been finalized for Dog Hollow’s Inaugural Fall Festival known as Thunder Dog 50 Final Showdown, on September 25, 26, 27. The three day finale will bring the curtain down on a successful first season for rookie promoter Dan Savino.

“It has been a learning curve for sure,” said Savino. “We are so pleased with all the support the fans have shown us in our first year. We made as many improvements as we could this first season, but it was hard to get everything done we wanted. I can’t thank Jim & Sharon Michny enough for allowing us to reopen this great track and bring it back to life.”

The 50-lap Townsend Gas & Oil Super Late Model feature will pay the winner $6000 to win with $200 to start the main event. Drivers not making the field will get $150 tow money. There will also be a non qualifiers race depending on the car count.

“We had a pretty ambitious schedule for our first year and we hope to make that grow next season,” said Savino. “We will be able to get an earlier start on 2015 and hope to make some announcements soon on some of our big shows.”

Thursday is a practice day for all the divisions if they want to come and test. Camping will be available, but there are no hookups. Friday will feature a full show for the E-Mods paying $800 to win. This will be the first time the E-Mods have been back to Dog Hollow since 2003. All the other classes will be running heat races and dashes for cash on Friday. Saturday will be B-Mains (if needed) and all A-Mains.

Joining the Townsend Gas & Oil Super Late Models on Friday will be the Lias Tire Crate Late Models, Steel Block Limited Late Models, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, FWD 4 Cylinders and Modified 4 Cylinders.

Drivers who have called and commited are Dan Stone, George Lee, Shane McLoughlin, Quintin Wyandt, Brandon Delano, Chris Rhodes and Dan Angelicchio. Friday night regulars Mike Blose, Dwayne Taneyhill, Shawn Claar, and Duane Stiner are also expected to be in the field along with many others such at Mike Altobelli. Can the Ford drivers continue their hot streak or will one of the Chevrolet boys be able to stop them?

Friday night will also feature a performance from national country recording artyuist Ricky Lee. Lee will be returning from Nashville after recording a new album. A concert will be held before the races and during intermission.

Sunday, September 28 will be used as a raindate for all features should it rain on Saturday.

General admission prices are Thursday $5, Friday $20, Saturday $25 or a 3 day pass for $40. Pit prices are Thursday $25, Friday $35, Saturday $40 or a 3 day pass for $85.

Dog Hollow Results for September 13

14 September 2014 - 12:53 AM

Andy Fries Scores Steel Block Bandit Win at Dog Hollow Speedway; Angelicchio, Martin, Theys, Pease & Lee Add to Win Totals

STRONGSTOWN, PA (September 13, 2014) – The Steel Block Bandit Late Models invaded the Dog Hollow Speedway for the first time ever and Mercersburg’s Andy Fries came away with the victory. Dan Angelicchio (Townsend Gas & Oil Super Late Models) won for the second time while Joe Martin (Lias Tire Crate Late Models), Jon Lee (Pure Stocks), Jack Theys (FWD 4 Cylinders) and Bob Pease (Mod 4s) all added to their 2014 win totals.

Justin Queen took off at the drop of the green in the Pure Stocks. Queen, looking for his first Dog Hollow win in over a year, led the first ten laps before Mahaffey’s Jon Lee passed him on a lap ten restart.  Lee then opened up a slight led to earn his fourth feature win of the season. Queen was second followed by Davey Lee, Marshall Detwiller and Nick Erskine.  Erskine, Brandie Mills and Davey Lee were the heat winners.

Joe Moyer took the initial led at the start of the 20-lap Lias Tire Crate Late Model feature. Moyer looked like he was headed to victory lane until sixth starting Joe Martin moved into second on lap ten. Martin, of Mayport, then reeled in the leader and passed him on lap 14. Martin diced through traffic to pick up his fifth win of the season. Rick Singleton was second ahead of Moyer, Mike Laughard and Matt Parks. Heats went to Martin and Laughard.

Ralph Morgan, Jr. took the lead at the start of the 30-lap Steel Block Bandit Series feature. Morgan looked strong leading the first eighteen laps holding off Robbie Emory. Andy Fries moved into second on lap thirteen and then pressured Morgan. Fries slipped by Morgan on lap eighteen and then sped away for his first Dog Hollow win. Emory was second over Larry Ramsey, Cheyenne Reed and Robbie Black. Sixth through tenth were Morgan, Bernie Whiteford, Joe Petyak, Brian Lessley and Denny Bonebrake.  Heats were won by Emory, Ramsey and Morgan.

Mt. Pleasant’s Dan Angelicchio made his fourth appearance at Dog Hollow in the Townsend Gas & Oil Super Late Models and came away with his second win. Mike Blose led lap one before the yellow flew. On the restart Angelicchio used the outside starting spot to take the lead and start to pull away. Caution closed up the field with the last one on lap 16. Blose kept Angelicchio in sight. The pair encountered lapped traffic in the final few laps and Angelicchio got caught behind a car and he and Blose made contact coming for the white flag. Blose let off and Angelicchio was able to hold on the final lap for his second win of the season. Blose was second followed by Mike Altobelli, Dan Lee and Wally Fox. Sixth through tenth were Shawn Claar, Dan Swartzlander, Bobby Watt, Ryan Christoff and John Myers. John Garvin and Altobelli were heat race winners.

Jack Theys led all 12 laps of the FWD 4 Cylinder feature to take his third checkered flag of the year. Theys was first challenged by Mike Potter before teammate Brady Miller applied pressure.  The pair raced side by side at times before Theys crossed the line for the win. Miller, Rusty Focht, Mike Potter and Lance Kough were the top five. Focht and Lydic were the heat winners.

Derry’s Bob Pease beat Tom Pavelko in the Modified 4 Cylinder feature.

Dog Hollow Speedway will now be off the weekend of September 20 to prepare for the Thunder Dog 50 Final Showdown on September 25, 26 & 27.  Super Late Models will go 50-laps paying $6000 to win. Steel Block Late Models are $2000 to win, Crate Late Models $1200 to win, Street Stocks $800 to win, Pure Stocks $600 to win, Mod 4s $400 to win, FWD 4 Cylinders $300 and E-Mods $800 to win.  Check out our website at doghollowspeedway.net for more info.
