FASTRAK NE LM Tour rained out at Lernerville 10/27/12

27 October 2012 - 07:10 PM

RAIN WASHES OUT FEATURE EVENTS SATURDAY AT LERNERVILLE’S “STEEL CITY STAMPEDE”; EVENT TO BE COMPLETED APRIL 2013; FASTRAK NORTHEAST SEASON NOW COMPLETE By Mike Leone October 26-27, 2012 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Sarver, PA)…The Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC Pace Performance FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series concluded the 2012 racing season on a soggy, dreary, and cold Saturday afternoon at Lernerville Speedway. Rain that was predicted to arrive late Friday evening held off until mid-afternoon Saturday and after waiting three hours and with worse weather predicted for Sunday, the decision was made to postpone the conclusion of the “Steel City Stampede” to April 13, 2013. Forty-four drivers participated in heat race action on Friday night that started off under sunny skies and temps well into the 70s; however, a cold front pushed through dropping the temperature in hurry and kicked up the wind. The rain all stayed to the north and west allowing all nine divisions in competition to complete their heat races in three and half hours. FASTRAK heat race winners were Chad Wright (Springboro, PA), Ricky Meglaye (Youngwood, PA), Ryan Montgomery (Fairmont, WV), Chad Ruhlman (Bemus Point, NY), and Rocky Kugel (East Liverpool, OH). Wright drew an invert six for the K&N Dash and feature line-up. For the second straight week, Ruhlman won the K&N “Cold Air Induction” Dash to earn the pole position for the 30-lap feature. Ruhlman, who started third, received another $100 K&N certificate. Kyle Zimmerman was second and received a $50 K&N certificate. Third through fifth in the dash and receiving $25 cash were Kugel, Montgomery, and Meglaye. Joe Martin captured the inaugural K&N Dash Championship by just one-point over Mike Pegher, Jr. FASTRAK Northeast Touring members that participated will receive 10 show-up points, and the 2012 season is now complete. The conclusion of the event (two B mains and the 30-lap feature) will be non-points. Max Blair is the 2012 champion for the fourth time in five years and heat out Pegher for the third straight season! FASTRAK NE LM Tour Lernerville 10/25-27/12 preview

24 October 2012 - 11:53 AM

LERNERVILLE’S “STEEL CITY STAMPEDE” TO BRING DOWN CURTAIN ON 2012 FASTRAK NE LATE MODEL TOURING SEASON FOR $2000 TO-WIN SATURDAY By Mike Leone October 24, 2012 (Sarver, PA)…The 2012 Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC Pace Performance FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series will conclude its sixth year of operation this weekend at Lernerville Speedway for the “Steel City Stampede”. Race #24 will feature an open practice and King of the Hill on Thursday (October 25) with heat races on Friday followed by the B mains, feature, and non-qualifier on Saturday. The rain date is Sunday. This weekend marks the fourth annual DIRTcar Roundup “Steel City Stampede”, which features 10 different divisions! And while the Crate Late Models have been part of the event each year racing for $1,000 to-win, this year marks the first under the FASTRAK banner and will also pay $2,000 to-win on Saturday night! Lernerville has held only one FASTRAK-sanctioned event that coming on May 30, 2011 when Max Blair won the landmark race that featured 46 cars as part of the $1,500 to-win Bill Emig Memorial “Wild Card Weekend” with the USAC National Sprint Car Series “Eastern Storm”. With that event disappointingly not held this year due to the change in the calendar, FASTRAK was invited to be including in the “Steel City Stampede”! “We’re really looking forward to being part of the Steel City Stampede and closing out our year at Lernerville,” stated sixth year Northeast Co-Director Vicki Emig. “We had always hoped to eventually be part of this great season ending spectacular, but in the past the date had always conflicted with our Grand Nationals. Though we were disappointed to find out the USAC show wasn’t able to happen this year, the Steel City Stampede opened up. Our drivers really enjoy racing at Lernerville.” Blair has already secured his fourth Northeast Touring Series Championship thanks to a record 10 victories in 23 starts! Blair finished only once out of the top 10 with a 12th at Expo on July 4 prior to his first DNF of the season last weekend at Roaring Knob. One driver that certainly knows his way around Lernerville is Mike Pegher, Jr. The former Stock Car champion has also turned a lot of laps at the Sarver, Pa. oval in both a Crate and a Super Late Model. Pegher has clinched the runner-up position for the third straight year, but five finishes of 17th or worse cost him a shot at the title. Chad Ruhlman is fresh off his second win of the season last weekend at Roaring Knob and was able to put on a lock on the third spot in points in his first year on the tour. Ryan Montgomery and John Over are in their first full season on the Tour and are currently fourth and fifth. Both racers will be guaranteed those positions in the final points by simply attempting to compete. Sixth through 10th in the standings are former Lernerville Stock Car Champion Butch Lambert, Dan Angelicchio, Will Thomas III, Shane Weaver, and Matt Latta. Holding down the final points paying positions in 11th through 15th are Brad Kling, Joe Martin, Chad Wright, Lauren Longbrake, and Josh Holtgraver. While an open practice is the norm on Thursday between 7-9 p.m., FASTRAK racers Josh Holtgraver and Mike Pegher have put together a King of the Hill that will take place tentatively from 9-10 p.m. The event is slated to pay $1,500 to-win and possibly pay back 10 positions. There is a $20 entry fee to participate. Current sponsors are Pegher Painting, Knobeloch Heating & Cooling, Team Blair Racing, Will Thomas Motorsports, Schwartzmiller Ground Maintenance, Weaver Auto Sales, Rocket Chassis, Beatty Welding, Paper Service Company, High Gear Speed Shop, Alternative Power Sources, RKR, HTMA/Precise Racing Products, Jimmy Steigerwald, Triple-S Auto Outlet, FASTRAK Northeast, Ingram Engines, Zero Wraps, Race 1, Big Daddy's Speed Center, Eriez Speedway, Close Racing Supply, Spartan Tool, Flinner Signs & Decals, Schaeffer Oil, Blackshear Racing Engines, D&T Autobody, All American Framers, Fannies Friends Pet Cremation Services Services, Weidner Heating & Air Conditioning, Chad Valone Racing, Garvin Scrap Metal, Frankland Rearend, and Stile Marine. For more info, contact Josh at 412-865-9159 or Mike at 724-321-1972. The “Steel City Stampede” will be under the special event format where the invert following the heat races (drawn by the first heat winner) will determine who runs the K&N “Cold Air Induction” Dash. That dash will pay $100 K&N certificate to the winner, $50 K&N certificate to runner-up with $25 cash going to the remaining starters. The dash will determine the first four starting spots of the feature (five if five heats are run). Three-time dash winner Joe Martin currently leads two-time dash winner Mike Pegher, Jr. by one-point heading into the final event. Of course all of the great contingency programs will be in full force. Besides the K&N Dash, the Brake Man “Tough Brake of the Night”, Genesis Shocks “Top Dog of the Night”, Precise Racing Products “Pedal Down” Hard Charger, and the Utsinger’s Towing Hoosier Tire Giveaway will also take place. One lucky fan will win a K&N “Cold Air Induction” system valued up to $500 for use on a personal vehicle. There will be big blow-out sales on FASTRAK Northeast apparel including t-shirts 2 for $25, hoodies $25 or get a hoodie and a t-shirt for $25! There have been 96 Northeast Touring Series races contested with 35 different winners all-time. FASTRAK NE LM Tour Roaring Knob 10/19-21/12 story & results

22 October 2012 - 11:41 AM

CHAD RUHLMAN WINS A THRILLER AT ROARING KNOB TAKING $3,000 SUPER NATS II FOR 2ND WIN; 12-YEAR-OLD MICHAEL LAKE DOMINATES NON-QUALIFIER; DABECCO WINS "FUTURES CUP" By Mike Leone October 19-21, 2012 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Markleysburg, PA)…The Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC Pace Performance FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series returned to Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex for the fourth and final time of the 2012 season. It was part two of the “Super Nationals” and race #23 of the 2012 slate, which attracted 34 teams from all over Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, New York, and Maryland. Qualifying and heat races were completed on Friday night despite some light showers. Saturday was scheduled to be the conclusion of the program, but rain showers hit early in the evening and the remainder of the event had to be finished on Sunday. When the topside of the speedway is there, you can just about bet Chad Ruhlman will be at or near the front. Despite daytime conditions, Chad Ruhlman didn’t give up and when the sun no longer was hitting the speedway, the topside really came in. Ruhlman was able to sneak past Mike Pegher, Jr. on lap 27 and held off a big charge by Troy Shields, who also found the outside to his liking, for the $3,000 “Super Nationals II” victory early Sunday evening. Ruhlman also won a thriller during the Original Pizza Logs Speedweek event at Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway on July 7 and Sunday’s win gave him his second Series win of the season in his first year in FASTRAK. It also solidified third place in the Northeast Touring Series points. “Max (Blair) and Mike Pegher are the two cleanest guys you can run with,” acknowledged the 35-year-old Bemus Point, NY racer. “I don’t know what happened to Max, but Mike is clean as heck. When he saw me on the outside, he raced me hard and clean. I was glad we came down here and ran as well as we did after being here for three days. It’s too bad we can’t catch Max in points, but at least there aren’t any other shake-ups.” “The track was real good,” continued Ruhlman. “I was hoping the bottom wouldn’t take rubber. I knew the top was going to be good, but I just need the guys to crank some runs laps and slick the bottom off. Mike was certainly better on the bottom than I was. I’m glad there was traction on the top for this Rayburn. I know we’re the only Rayburn in four states. Hopefully this will keep C.J. happy. We shook them up when we won at Pittsburgh!” Ruhlman earned the pole position for the 30-lap feature by virtue of his K&N Dash victory and led the opening lap over Pegher, Josh Holtgraver, Troy Shields, and Will Thomas III before the caution was displayed. Contact was made between outside pole-sitter John Flinner, Jr., Max Blair, and Shields with Flinner getting into the fence and ending his night. When racing resumed, Pegher took the lead, while Shields passed Holtgraver for third. Holtgraver though battled back and regained third one lap later and brought Thomas with him. Three cautions slowed action with five laps completed. Blair brought out the first as the Series champion’s night ended, while Jeremy Zufall was the next with a spin. The next caution was when K.C. Burdette slammed the turn one fence ending his night. Burdette was awarded The Brake Man “Tough Brake of the Night” in his first Series start of the season. Back under green flag conditions, Holtgraver began to mount a challenge on Ruhlman on lap seven. Shields continued to fade as he dropped out of the top five on lap nine. Eighth starting Schirnhofer continued to move forward passing Thomas for fourth on lap 12 with Shields trailing in fifth. Shields was now on the charge back to the front taking fourth from Schirnhofer on lap 13 then drove around Holtgraver on the outside for third two laps later. The top now appeared to be the preferred line as Ruhlman caught Pegher on lap 15 running the outside. Shields stayed around the outside and made it a three-car race for the lead on lap 18. Behind the front trio, Holtgraver had his hands full with John Garvin, Jr. Garvin started 14th and steadily made his way forward. Despite the battle, Holtgraver and Garvin actually ran down the leaders and made it a five-car race for the lead with 10 laps to go. Garvin made the pass of Holtgraver on lap 25. Up front, Ruhlman kept getting a great run off turn four, but Pegher kept shutting the door. On lap 27, Ruhlman pulled even with Pegher and this time was able to keep his momentum up off turn four and he snuck by down the frontstretch to lead the lap. Ruhlman began to pull away, but lapped traffic loomed ahead on lap 29. Traffic wouldn’t become a factor as Thomas spun to bring out the caution with 28 laps scored. Ruhlman chose the outside for the restart. The duo were side-by-side down the fronstretch and through much of turns one and two, but Ruhlman powered by off turn two and went on to take the checkered first in the Terry Suppa-owned, Raineater Wiper Blades/Cargo Auto Parts/Spartan Tool/Rand Machine-sponsored Rayburn Race Car #4s. Shields was also able to use the outside to get by Pegher on the final lap to secure the $1,500 runner-up spot, which was his best career Tour finish topping his prior best of fifth back on June 30, 2010 at Expo Speedway. “That was fun,” expressed the Acme, Pa. resident. “The track was good and racey. We didn’t have anything for anyone on the bottom so after that one caution I decided to try it on the outside. It stuck so I figured that’s where we were going to roll.” Pegher barely edged out Garvin for third. “We enjoy coming down here to run,” stated Pegher. “It’s usually a fast and racey track. We started to slow down with about five to go and Ruhlman was picking it up. It was good racing and we came out third, but the car is in one piece for Lernerville next week. We look forward to coming back next year.” It was just Garvin’s third career Tour start and first since Memorial Day Weekend at Sharon Speedway when he blew a motor. Holtgraver was fifth for the fourth time this season matching his best finish of the year. It propelled him into 15th in the Driver Points and 14th in the Owner Points. Ken Herman made his first Tour start of the season a successful coming home a career best sixth after starting 11th. Herman also received the $100 Genesis Shocks “Top Dog of the Night” certificate for being the highest finishing driver on Genesis Shocks. Butch Lambert was seventh after starting 13th. Lambert’s 11th top 10 of the season moved him into sixth in the standings. Nolan Dalton had a strong run in eighth after starting 17th. Schirnhofer was ninth. Ryan Montgomery earned the $100 Precise Racing Products “Pedal Down” Hard Charger Award. After taking a provisional, Montgomery charged from the 25th starting spot to 10th at the finish for his 11th top 10 of the year as well. Thomas was the final car on the lead lap at the finish in 19th and received the Utsinger’s Towing free Hoosier Tire. Mentored by Super Late Model standout Doug Horton and backing from his grandfather and well-known car owner Bobby Lake, 12-year-old Michael Lake went out and dominated the $500 to-win non-qualifier event to end the night. Lake ended the regular season at Roaring Knob with eight top 10 finishes including a career best fifth on August 25 in addition to a heat race win. Lake made his first career Tour start on September 29 at Roaring Knob and finished a respectable 13th prior to Sunday’s B feature victory in his second Tour start! After losing the final A feature transfer spot in his B main on the final lap, Lake went on to lead all 12 non-stop laps in the Bobby Lake Motorsports/D&M Trucking/High Gear Speed Shop/C-Harper Chevrolet-sponsored #27. Lake continues the impressive youth movement and shows how much depth there is in the FASTRAK Series. “This feels good,” said the Uniontown, Pa. sixth grade Albert Gallatin student. “I have to thank my grandpa Bobby, my crew Dave and Tim, Doug Horton of Warrior Race Cars and High Gear Speed Shop, and all of my sponsors.” W.L. Stile passed Toby Massie on the opening lap for second, but wasn’t able to mount a challenge on Lake. It was Stile’s fourth top three non-qualifier finish of the season as he earned the “Wheelman” Bonus Event Challenge Series Championship. Massie was running third, but got high on lap three and rode the turn four fence. Somehow Massie didn’t roll over and was able to finish the event in fifth. Justin Lamb and Ron Smithley were able to get by Massie during his mishap to finish third and fourth respectively. On Friday night, the third and final Pace Performance “Futures Cup” Trifecta race was run and it was Nico Dabecco becoming the first driver in two seasons to repeat. The 15-year-old Pittsburgh driver, who also won the Trifecta race at Pittsburgh, led all six laps for the $200 win in the Dan Karalagas-owned Treasure Hunt Jewelers/D&T Towing/Frankland Rearend-sponsored #1Freek. But more importantly for Dabecco he captured the $1,000 season-long championship! Shane Weaver passed Cody Dawson on lap two to finish second. Dawson was third. Friday night got started with qualifying and four drivers were able to lower Max Blair’s previous track record of 16.897 set at the last Tour event on September 28 led by Will Thomas with a new standard of 16.631! Thomas also won the first heat race in addition to Pegher, Blair, and Flinner, who also all had laps faster than the previous standard. B main winners on Sunday were Brian Knowles and Jeremy Zufall. Thomas pulled an invert six, which put Shields on the pole of the K&N “Cold Air Induction” Dash. Ruhlman, whose prior best dash finishes were second and a third, received a $100 K&N certificate for his first dash win of the season. Flinner received a $50 K&N certificate for finishing second, while Blair and Shields received $25 cash for third and fourth respectively. FASTRAK NE LM Tour Roaring Knob Oct 19-20, 2012 preview

16 October 2012 - 07:10 PM

ROARING KNOB SET TO HOST “SUPER NATIONALS II” THIS WEEKEND FOR FASTRAK NE LATE MODEL TOUR FEATURING $3000 TO-WIN A, $1200 TO-WIN B & $500 TO-WIN C FEATURES By Mike Leone October 16, 2012 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Markleysburg, PA)…After three weeks since the last event, the Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC Pace Performance FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series will resume action this weekend at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex. The “Super Nationals II” will mark the next to last event on the 2012 slate, which will conclude the following weekend (October 26-27) at Lernerville Speedway for the “Steel City Stampede”. This weekend will mark race #23 with qualifying, heat races, and the Pace Performance “Futures Cup” Trifecta Race #3 on Friday night followed by the K&N “Cold Air Induction” Dash, last chance B mains, the $3,000 to-win A feature, $1,200 to-win B feature, and a $500 to-win C feature, if necessary on Saturday night. The B feature for the first 24 non-qualifiers features a regular $1,200 to-win Northeast Touring payoff with $150 to-start. The two-part “Super Nationals,” a new idea brainstormed and developed between Northeast Directors Vicki Emig and Mike Leone and Roaring Knob owner/promoter Rick Jones, and was announced at the end of January. “Super Nationals I” became the earliest event ever contested by the Northeast Touring Series on March 31-April 1. “Rick Jones has certainly become a great partner with FASTRAK Northeast,” stated sixth year Northeast Co-Director Vicki Emig. He really stepped up his involvement this season hosting Part I and II of this inaugural Super Nationals concept. It’s pretty awesome that 48 drivers get into a feature and get to race for strong Touring payouts.” Despite the early date and less than desirable weather conditions, a Roaring Knob record 47 cars from five states plus Canada participated! Each racer got to compete in a feature event with the 24 going to the $3,000 to-win A feature, and the remainder of the field to the $1,200 to-win B feature. Max Blair began his title defense winning the A feature, while Jason Genco made his long tow from NY a profitable one winning the B feature for his biggest career win. Fresh off winning over $23,000 at the FASTRAK “World Championship” two weeks ago at Beckley, WV, Blair enters the weekend already having clinched the 2012 Northeast Touring title. In addition to his fourth $5,000 Touring crown in five years, Blair also won the $1,000 Original Pizza Logs Speedweek title for the second straight year, and earned an additional $500 for capturing the Bill Emig Memorial “Wild Card Weekend” title. Roaring Knob is the site of second place point man Mike Pegher, Jr’s just one of two victories on the 2012 Touring slate. It looks like Pegher has a pretty good shot at securing his Series’ third straight runner-up point placing as he currently leads Chad Ruhlman by 40 markers. Ruhlman, who finished second in the $7,000 to-win “World Challenge” at Beckley, enters the weekend with a 40-point edge on Ryan Montgomery, who is competing in his first full season of Touring action. John Over is currently fifth and would love to pick up his first career Series win at his home track. Ruhlman and Montgomery each have one Series win this season. Dan Angelicchio, Butch Lambert, Will Thomas III, Matt Latta, and Shane Weaver are sitting in spots six through tenth. The battle for the final points paying positions in 11th through 15th are pretty tight with Brad Kling, Joe Martin, Chad Wright, Lauren Longbrake, and Bobby Rohrer currently holding down the positions. Another six drivers in Jamie Brown, Josh Holtgraver, Steve Dixon, Andrew Wylie, Justin Tatlow, and Nolan Dalton still have a shot at cracking the top 15! Also part of the weekend will be the third and final Pace Performance “Futures Cup” Trifecta race, which will pit all eligible “Futures Cup” racers in their own event. So far this season, Nico Dabecco (Pittsburgh) and Eric Wilson (Sharon) have won the $200 to-win events as Dabecco leads the $1,000 to-win points. Of course all of the great contingency programs will be in full force. Besides the K&N “Cold Air Induction Dash”, The Brake Man “Tough Brake of the Night”, Genesis Shocks “Top Dog of the Night”, Precise Racing Products “Pedal Down” Hard Charger, and the Utsinger’s Towing Hoosier Tire Giveaway will also take place. Eight Northeast Touring Series events have been run all-time at Roaring Knob with Mike Pegher, Jr. winning four of them. Pegher began a three race win streak on June 26, 2010 winning that event, the “Fall Fest” on October 8, 2010, and then the show with the Lucas Oil Late Models on April 30, 2011. Pegher also won this year’s event with Lucas Oil back in April. Bobby Powell won the inaugural Roaring Knob race on June 26, 2009. Robbie Blair captured the victory in last year’s event. Max Blair won the “Super Nationals” and Martin just recently captured the $2,000 “Big Kahuna” event. There have been 95 Northeast Touring Series races contested with 35 different winners all-time. Max Blair leads nemesis Mike Pegher, Jr. 22 to 15 followed by Dick Barton, Bobby Powell, John Lacki, David Scott, and Joe Martin with four, Steve Dixon and Josh Holtgraver at three, Alan Dellinger, Dan Angelicchio, Robbie Blair, Ryan Montgomery, Will Thomas III, and Wayne Robertson with two, and Todd Andrews, Kyle Drum, Frank Guidace, Butch Lambert, Carl McKinney, Dennis Lunger, Jr., Tom Snyder, Jr., Chris Meadows, Jim Frank, Mike Blose, Jonathan Davenport, Gary Knollinger, Dusty Hamrick, Bud Watson, Russell King, George Kowatic, Chad Ruhlman, Matt Latta, & Sammy Stile, and Chad Wright with one victory. FASTRAK NE World Championship/World Challenge Review

11 October 2012 - 05:38 PM

NORTHEAST CLAIMS FASTRAK’S CROWN JEWEL FOR 2ND STRAIGHT YEAR & SWEEPS TOP 4 SPOTS AT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP AS MAX BLAIR LEADS CONTINGENT WINNING OVER $23,000 AT BECKLEY By Mike Leone October 11, 2012 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Pulaski, PA)…The Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC Pace Performance FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series had this past weekend off so it’s racers could participate in the World Championship Weekend at Beckley Motorsports Park in Prosperity, West Virginia. Twenty-five teams made the pilgrimage south and joined with racers from all over the country for FASTRAK’s crown jewel event, which drew a record car count of some 85 cars. The event was also filmed for a tape-delayed four-segment television broadcast on FOX Sports. For the second straight year, FASTRAK’s biggest prize came home to the Northeast. Last season, Mike Pegher, Jr. won his first FASTRAK Championship of any kind winning the $30,000 Grand Nationals. This year’s “Grand Nationals” was reformatted and turned into the “World Championship” and now one of FASTRAK’s all-time greats has the title he’s so yearned for so many years. Max Blair is the 2012 FASTRAK World Champion! The 22-year-old Centerville, Pa. third generation racer has lit up FASTRAK records scoring wins and titles on an annual basis over the past five years. He’s a three-time $10,000 National Weekly Series Champion and now has won the $5,000 Northeast Touring title four out of five years! On Saturday night, Blair nailed down the one big title that has always eluded him- the World Championship (formerly known as the “Grand Nationals”). Blair earned a spot in the World Championship by virtue of his $1,000 runner-up finish in one of Friday’s 40-lap “topless” mains. He then went on to win Saturday’s 75-lap $2,000 to-win championship feature that earned him the $20,000 title! Blair didn’t do as well in the World Challenge (National Weekly) event finishing 24th to earn start money on top of the $500 point money. Blair though will also receive $1,200 for FASTRAK Weekly point money for winning the titles at McKean County Raceway and Eriez Speedway and finishing third at Raceway 7. Not only did Blair win the World Championship crown, but Northeast racers swept the top four positions! Fresh off his September 29 $2,000 Northeast Touring victory at Roaring Knob’s “Big Kahuna” Weekend, Joe Martin carried that momentum south where he had a huge weekend! A flat tire on Friday resulted in a disappointing 13th place finish for Martin, but that qualified the Mayport, Pa. driver for Saturday’s World Championship where he finished second to Blair for $1,000 plus $10,000 in point fund monies! Martin also had a strong performance in the World Challenge where he finished fifth to earn not only race winnings, but another $1,200 in point monies. Martin recorded a best ever finish for a Wylie Race Car in a National Event. Wylie Race Cars signed on as Major Contingency Sponsor of FASTRAK Northeast in 2012. While the 2012 season probably wasn’t what Billy Henry, Jr. had hoped for scoring just one victory on opening night at Eriez Speedway, the Conneautville, Pa. racer saved the best for last. He finished fifth in one of the Friday night 40-lap “topless” races to qualify for Saturday’s “World Championship”. He then was the third driver across the finish line in Saturday’s 75-lap championship feature! Henry earned $6,500 in point fund monies plus his race earnings for his two feature events! Wayne Robertson doesn’t compete as much as he’d probably like to; however, when he does- he makes it count. Robertson made the longest tow of the entire Northeast contingent to Beckley from his home in Corning, New York. The $3,000 Black Rock Speedway August 18 “Empire State Classic” Northeast Touring winner finished third in one of the 40-lap qualifying events on Friday night. Robertson then battled his way from the 21st starting spot into the lead on Saturday night on Saturday night with his sights on the $22,000 prize; however, disaster struck as he tangled with Chris Ferguson. Robertson didn’t give up and battled his way back to a fine fourth place finish for the $4,000 point fund prize plus race earnings. Making his FASTRAK debut in 2012 was Chad Ruhlman. The Bemus Point, NY former Super Late Model driver hooked up with longtime E-Mod car count Terry Suppa and has been fast all season. Ruhlman won a thrilling Northeast Touring event during Speedweek at Pittsburgh on July 7. At Beckley, Ruhlman finished 15th on Friday night and improved that with a ninth on Saturday night. The highlight though was his runner-up in the Weekly World Challenge event to local standout Chris Meadows. Ruhlman earned $4,500 in point fund monies for the two events plus another $1,610 in race earnings! Ruhlman also finished runner-up in the FASTRAK Weekly points for an additional $300. Third year FASTRAK teenage racer Chad Wright was fast all weekend with a seventh on Friday and an 11th in the World Championship on Saturday. It was the Springboro, Pa. driver’s first ever appearance in the former “Grand Nationals”. It’s been quite the year for Wright, who captured his first career win at Eriez Speedway on their final night, won three features at Raceway 7, and recorded his first career Northeast Touring win on September 15 at Sharon Speedway. Ryan Montgomery made a return trip south for the second consecutive year. The 2011 Pace Performance “Futures Cup” Champion from Fairmont, WV had another strong showing with a third on Friday night and a 20th in Saturday’s “World Championship”. In his first full season on the Northeast Tour, Montgomery has one victory and is currently fourth in points. The World Championship weekend pretty much summed up Pegher’s season. The 2011 Grand National Champion has been fast all season, but just hasn’t been able to parlay his speed into victories. A sixth place finish on Friday night and a pole position start had Pegher’s eyes on the $22,000 prize, but a mid-race spin running in the top five ruined his chances and resulted in a 23rd place finish. Bobby Rohrer, whose father owns Sunday night FASTRAK-sanctioned Eriez Speedway, made his second straight venture south and had a much improved performance. After not qualifying for either feature in 2011, Rohrer finished 20th on Friday night to qualify for Saturday where he raced his way into the feature and finished 24th in the “World Championship”. The Waterford, Pa. second year FASTRAK racer earned $1,050 in point fund monies plus race winnings. Josh Holtgraver is another driver that hasn’t had the year he had envisioned after coming off a career best 2011 season. The Pittsburgh driver didn’t qualify for the feature on Friday or Saturday’s “World Championship,” but had a strong showing in the $7,000 to-win “World Challenge”. Holtgraver took the lead early on in the 50 lapper and appeared primed for the big payday, but backpedaled in the closing laps where he finished fourth to earn $1,500 in point money plus race earnings. Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway FASTRAK Champion Kyle Lukon finished 17th in Friday’s qualifying event and recorded an eighth in the “World Challenge”. The Burgettstown, Pa. driver earned $850 in point money on top of race winnings plus another $500 for the PPMS title. John Over was always a Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex regular. In the 2012, the Uniontown, Pa. driver decided to follow the Northeast Touring Series for the first time where he currently sits fifth in points with a career best runner-up finish last month at Sharon Speedway. Over also decided to head south for the first time where he finished 14th on Friday then came home 10th in Saturday’s “World Challenge”. Second year FASTRAK racer Matt Latta has been impressive this year. He finished second in the weekly points at both Raceway 7 and Sharon Speedway and won his first career Northeast Touring event- a $2,000 victory at Eriez Speedway’s Speedweek finale. The 20-year-old Conneaut Lake, Pa. driver is also ninth in Tour points. Latta went to great lengths to make it to the World Championship Weekend as he had to be flown from Erie to Beckley in order to make it on Friday due to school commitments. The weekend didn’t go quite as Latta had hoped for failing to qualify for either feature on Friday or Saturday’s “World Championship,” but he did rebound for a 12th in the “World Challenge” to earn $725 in point fund monies in addition to his race earnings plus the $600 FASTRAK weekly track monies from Raceway 7 and Sharon. Two other drivers, Dan Angelicchio and Michael Mitchell, qualified for Saturday’s “World Challenge,” where they finished 15th and 21st respectively. Other Northeast drivers participating during the weekend included Jamie Brown, Nolan Dalton, Lauren Longbrake, Joe Moyer, Joel Prosser, Troy Shields, Rick Singleton, Justin Tatlow, Shane Weaver, and Bobby Whitling. “We couldn’t be prouder of our racers,” stated sixth year Northeast Co-Director Vicki Emig. “They put on great racing week in and week out and have come a long way since our first season back in 2007. Their performance in recent years at the Nationals shows the caliber of drivers we now have.” Two big Northeast Touring events remain for 2012 season with the “Super Nationals II” at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex October 19-20 and the “Steel City Stampede” at Lernerville Speedway October 26-27. 2012 FASTRAK Northeast marketing partners include Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC, Pace Performance, Hoosier Tires, Original Pizza Logs, K&N Filters, The Brake Man, Utsinger’s Towing, Precise Racing Products, Genesis Shocks, VP Fuels, Beyea Custom Headers, H&H Racing Equipment, High Gear Speed Shop, Hyperco, Jake’s Golf Carts, Lincoln Electric, Wrisco Aluminum, and Wylie Race Cars. You can reach co-directors Vicki Emig and Mike Leone at the FASTRAK Northeast office at 724-964-9300. E-mail to info@fastraknortheast.com and snail mail to 4368 Route 422, Pulaski, PA 16143.
