Tri-City Raceway Park’s Biggest Race of the Year and Grand Prize Giveaways This Weekend!

(Franklin, PA)  The grand finale to the 2020 racing season at the Tri-City Raceway Park will be the largest event in the recent history of the facility.  Under new ownership this year, a signature event has been re-born, and drivers from several states are expected to compete for more than four times the purse of a weekly “Sunday Thunder” race.  Launching with a practice session for competitors on Friday, the “Applefest Race Weekend” is a seven division event, with a full agenda on Saturday and Sunday (September 18, 19, and 20) to close out the racing season.

In addition to the racing, the much anticipated Grand Prize Giveaways will be taking place on Sunday.  Two Jeep-replica go-karts are among the top prizes.  All season long, fans were told to keep their ticket stubs.  This Sunday, every person who attended any racing event at Tri-City this year, has a chance to win one of several prizes.  Admission tickets from the opening round of action in June, through the most recent race on August 30th, are collectively entered in the drawing for Sunday night.  Winners must be present, with their 2020 ticket stubs in hand, to claim prizes.

The Shawgo Real Estate Sprint Cars headline the competition, with Time Trials and Heat Races on Saturday.  With top-tier teams from all over the region expected to compete for $5,000 to win and $400 to start, a 30-lap race on Sunday will decide the Applefest Champion.  Also on Saturday, a postponed 25-lap Sprint Car feature from August 23rd, will be contested.  In addition to the open-wheeled, “winged warriors,”, six other divisions will be in action.  Three types of Modifieds, including Big Block Modifieds, Small Block Modifieds, and Crate-Engine Modifieds will participate in Heat Races on Saturday and Feature Events on Sunday.  The Big Block and Small Block Modifieds will compete for the largest cash purses of the year, in our region of the country;  each feature paying $4,000 to win and $200 to start.  A major event for the Hovis Auto and Truck Supply Pro-Stocks will be part of the weekend agenda, culminating with a 50-lap race on Sunday paying $2,250 to win and $250 to start.  The RUSH Non-wing Sprint Cars, will have a crown-jewel, weekly series event paying $1,000 to win, courtesy of Bruce Smith Construction.  And, the 4-Your-Car-Connection Mini-Stock cars are also racing for big dollars: $700 to win the Sunday feature race.

All seven divisions of cars will have Heat Races Saturday, with the action kicking off at 4:30pm.  Following the racing on Saturday night, a bonfire party will include a live performance by the band Midnight Blue.   Sunday, the Applefest Feature Races will mark a historic day of monumental payouts to the drivers, and crown the 2020 Tri-City Champions in the three weekly divisions of racing.  Action starts at 4pm on Sunday.

Weekend camping reservations are being taken, presently, as campers, motorhomes, and tents are welcome.  Camping fee is $25 for the weekend, and the camping areas open on Thursday.  No hookups are available (water, electric, etc.).  Grandstand admission tickets are $35 for one day (Sat or Sun), or $50 for the weekend.  Grandstand admission on Friday night is free, for the practice sessions which start at 6pm, and includes a Small Block Modified Non-Winners race.  For more information call (724) 967-4601.  Tri City Raceway Park is located at 3430 State Route 417 Franklin, PA 16323.
