A steel tube quick change with no birdcages is a good idea. Whole thing can be rebuilt, gears are say $20 at a swap meet New are what $60-80? 9" gears roughly $80 for a R/P used and roughly $300 for a used set New is pushing if not more than $600 I'm a fan of the 9" but the economics aren't there....
