Story by SkinnyKennysPhotos After nearly a month of rain filled Saturdays, the skies were clear in Waynesfield, Ohio on July 5th. The fans were once again able to enjoy another night of great racing at Waynesfield Motorsports Park. The pit was full of drivers that have been aching to get back on track and fulfill their need for speed. The first class of racers to take to the high banked dirt track for their feature event was the Waynesfield Tuff Trucks. Mike Hicks has been the truck to beat so far this year but it looked like his 3rd row starting spot might provide the help some others needed. #20k Bill Keeler grabbed the lead as the green flag started the race and quickly took command. Keeler easily held the lead during the first 15 laps of the race until a caution flag bunched the field back up. #R27 Randy Crossley was running 2nd and Hicks had worked his way into 3rd with only 5 laps remaining. When the race resumed, Keeler pulled away and it looked like he may earn his 1st truck feature win. Hicks had other plans. He quickly got passed Crossley and set his sights on Keeler. On the final lap of the race, Hicks pulled along Keeler and inched ahead to cross the finish line with another victory. Crossley held on to finish in 3rd. Hicks was out of breath in victory lane because his truck had lost the power steering early into the race. Truck heats were won by Chris Hicks, Mike Hicks, Bill Keeler, and Jerry Sawmiller. The 360 Winged Sprint Cars would be the next racers to run their feature event. #6s JR Stewart got the pole starting spot and that was all he needed. Stewart took the lead as the green flag waved and never looked back. He circled the track with such a torrid pace that he lapped almost half the field. The battle for the 2nd position was a great one. #35 Ron Blair and #17 Jared Horstman fought a race long battle for runner up honors. At the finish Horstman got 2nd and Blair was 3rd. Sprint heat wins went to Horstman, Blair, and Stewart. Hostman then climbed from his 360 sprinter and got into his 600cc Mini-Sprint to run the feature with those cars. #47 Gary Loney and Horstman were fighting for the lead when something broke on Horstman's car sending him pitside. When the racing got back underway, #23 Devon Dobie was able to get around Loney into the lead with #18 Todd Keen coming towards the front from his 12th place starting position. Dobie got too high coming out of turn 4 and finished his night in the wall. On the final restart Keen was able to pull away to the win with #328 Becca Stiefel coming home 2nd and Loney dropping to 3rd. Mini-Sprint heat winners were Loney and Horstman. The final feature of the evening would be the UMP Modifieds. As far as the modified racing in Ohio is going this year, Jon Henry has been dominating!! Henry would score his 10th feature win of this rain plagued season. He has won at Eldora, Limaland, and Waynesfield this year. #1b Kelly Bowlby drove a great race to keep within striking distance of Henry until his engine exploded in a cloud of smoke 2 laps from the end. #64 Gary Richard finished thr race in 2nd spot and #45p Brian Post was 3rd. I just wonder how many races Henry might have won if not for all the rain outs in this area? Modified heat winners were Henry, Brent Hole, Eddie Shaner, and Shane Oconnor. I would just like to say that I talked with Hank Zimfer at Waynesfield on Saturday night. The last time that we spoke face to face was almost a year ago. That night in August 2007, Hank was involved in a severe accident at Waynesfield Motorsports Park and was life flighted from the track with a broken back and other injuries. Although he is still in the healing process, Hank looks good and says he is feeling pretty well. The doctors still aren't ready to send him back racing yet but he says the thought still crosses his mind. It was good to see you Hank. Waynesfield Motorsports Park will not be racing on July 12th. Racing will return to Waynesfield on July 19th with non-wing sprints, mini-sprints, UMP modifieds, and Tuff trucks.

Thanks for your time to do this for us Kenny! I think if Keeler would have picked that banana peel up that he threw on the track a few weeks ago the 5s wouldn't have slipped on it and there wouldn't have been a caution. :P Great race Bill and Randy Crossley!

So am I the only one that notices the 33 truck is so much faster than others and not due to driver? It was obvious that they didn't have a good engine in the truck the first couple of weeks and now look at them! C'mon people the last two years this truck has had a monster motor and there's not much anyone can do other than claim the engine and we all know how not so well that goes. Although I've heard from many of my husbands friends that there is a claim in the works. I think this would send a clear message. We all know what will happen though.....the engine will come out of the 71 truck and into the 33 truck. I know others aren't 100% stock either but they don't make it as obviuos. If he were smart he would finish up the track some nights otherwise people are going to keep talking.

I agree that claiming engines will start a huge war. Why doesn't anyone like a winner? From what I know the 33 truck has had the same engine all year with a little bad luck at the beginning. Seems to me he just isn't afraid to drive the truck. Great job to Hicks, Keeler, Crossley, and the rest of the trucks for putting on a great race Saturday!!

If someone wants to spend thousands of $ to win $170 a week it would seem to me that they are losing anyhow. How many weeks (years) does it take to pay for that motor?

Nope, sorry not blind. Just see that everytime someone needs help in the pits 33 is always their. Even on the nights that he didn't finish all that well!!! I guess people forget that or don't see it because everybody hates a winner. Everyone has the same chance as he does.

I agree with paintman.....I would guess that he has spent all of his focus in the cylinder head......I wouldn't guess...I would guarentee it! There is no real answer to this. That's a tough one to swallow. Sounds to me like Keeler should've had that one wrapped up but the 33 ran him down.....hmmmm Keep it up Bill you'll get one! SO what is the click this season? I see that the girl supporting 33 is also standing up for Crossley and Keeler. I would like to see people like Stauffer, Higbea, Noffsinger, Brackney and Sawmiller win. Talk about a bad luck driver.....Higbea had no luck when I raced him but he always had a positive attitude and the same goes for Sawmiller. Those guys deserve one!

well all you have to do is look down in the pits to see that three trucks always park together on the other side of the pits away from the other trucks the 33, 71, and the 26. oh and how many wins do they have combined this year. if you walk behind the 26 have a hanky ready to wipe your eyes cause the alchocol will burn em

IN AN EFFORT TO KEEP THIS CLASS AT A LOW BUDGET ENTRY LEVEL – a $400 motor claimer will be in effect. Participants must be in same race to claim and trade motors That is straight from the WMSP webpage and is all it says, but the at the top of the page it says rules for 2007 and there was a set of rules at the spring swap meet and then I believe another set after that then the website so you have to figure out which one to go buy. I agree that claming motors is a good way to make some hard feelings and it has never worked in any stock class that I have been in so it would not make alot of difference. I understand why it is being talked about and its not because of anyone being nasty or not liking someone because they win, it has alot more to do with in the previous seasons many were told they could not run certain parts but then somebody else had twice the equipment so where was the fairness in that so alot of drivers spent there money on good reliable parts to stay in the rules and make a motor last for awhile but give up some performance. I know for a fact I pushed the rules as much as anyone, and I have done that in other calasses as well, I was even told not to come back to the Big E with my stock car, so I understand why people go to the extremes but all that is happening is running the class out of a place to run.How long do you think a prometer or owner is goin to listen to the moans before he says see ya. I dont have a clue what the answer is but we had better figure it out before we have some pretty yard ornaments. I am not sure about anyone else but I am hoping that some things work out and next year I will be out there every week [pushing the rules to the limit]. I have nothing against any of the Hicks but alot of people would like to see somebody else get there picture taken by the bean pole with a strobe lite. This is not anything bag against Mike just the way I see it, maybe you agree or maybe you wont but you know what they say about opinions???????
