seems to be the million dollar question....

Only two weeks remaining on the schedule at Sportsmans. Looks like a real good battle shaping up for the 305 championship. Latest results, point standings and schedule posted on their site.

The reason is simple, the self appointed tech man at sportsman speedway is not affiliated with racesaver, OSW, or sportsman speedway. In fact he was removed from the Western pa.racesaver board for his antics. I am sure if when mercer decides to tech it will be by the proper officials and not one of the participants that decide that night to be the tech inspector! There is a proper way to do things and having racers tech other racers isn't the right way.I will be more than happy to have my car teched by an official from Racesaver or OSW.but not by one of my competitors at any time.sorry but I was already down that road and it just isn't fair. So get a proper official and tech away, other than that leave me alone! Skip.

Skip,

Tell me I am wrong Skip. Was it not posted on this site that you were the 305 rep and Dennis was the 5.3L rep. and Walt for questions for Sportsman??? And did you not post on face-book,, teching was GOING to happen this past Sundays?? OSW rules were being used..The answer is yes. And you sit and say Walt was self appointed. Who appointed you. And I am in favor of tech for the record.

Walt, who I met for the first time a couple of weeks ago, took the lead. GOOD FOR HIM... Now you are personally attacking him. Don't burn a bridge there. You talk all the time ( on this site and elsewhere) on rules and now find yourself in this spotlight , YOU put on yourself.

You refused and that should have resulted in you not racing. And by OSW rules, could result in further actions. Skip you could have taken a different path. And you, for the record, were not being singled out as other cars were teched without an issue from the owner/driver.

Skip was aloud to race because nobody told him he couldnt. I went to see what everyone wanted to do. Some where saying to make him leave. Some said let him stay.' and some Questioned me of what I was doing because no one tech at the other tracks. Rules are great no teching at Mercer and by the way at Dog Hollow. Everyone is saying he cheating or this one is cheating How we going to know if we are not teched. Teching has to start Everywere. Hope this answers some questions Any help or input would be a blessing. Let me know Thanks Walt Sr

And for the record my vote was that he not race. I hide behind nothing. :o

You asked and I will do what I can to help this class. Dennis knows this also, as we talked last night on this subject.

Here is my opinion. Dont have a dog in this fight, and this is purely just the opinion of a fellow racer looking in. I commend Walt T. for teching. IT IS A MUST!! And it must be done more regularly and more thuroughly. The seals are not fool proof by any stretch of the imagination guys. Racers are RACERS. They live for competition. And any advantage they can muster over the competition they will take advantage of in a heartbeat. I admit. I am guilty of it myself. I have pushed the rules, been caught, and disqualified. But at least i was man enough to say, "Hey, well, ya know, you got me." "I played with fire and I got burnt." I took my lumps and went on. Passing the buck as to refusing tech to the track or anyone else is just plain chicken $hit in my opinion. Secondly, grasping for straws to justify your actions is not very flattering either. It only makes you look like more of a liar, and a hypocrite to those of us who can admit to seeing through the red tape. You know why you refused tech.... Everyone else knows why you refused tech....Common man....

Don't have a dog in this fight, but in the event that Skip wouldn't have gotten in dutch with Racesaver for running there, and in the further event that Skip's car is legal, then he is implying by refusing tech that he fears that Walt might screw him. If that is indeed what he is implying, then burning bridges is exactly what he's doing. Not a good move.

Why would anybody let another guy who was racing in the same class on the same nite and same racetrack let him come on in and take a look at what he was running? that makes no sense at all i dont blame Skip for refusing tech.. If your going to have a techman it cant be sumbody that also has a car that class..

I agree that having a competitor as a tech man is bullshit, but in Skip's position, rather than imply that Walt might be dishonest by refusing tech, I would have put the onus on Walt by letting him tech my car, then made an unholy stink about it if I got screwed. Think about it, Walt wouldn't want to flush his reputation down the shitter by blatantly screwing somebody, so I'm betting he would have been honest.

I dont think the stink was about car being illegal or legal... doesnt every team have differant ideas on how to make a car work better? Why should a fellow racer get the chance to come in and look at the other racers car just cause he is a supposed techman? If Yall are goning to want to try and enforce rules wouldnt it be a good idea to have a non involved person to do this?

I wasnt there on Sunday, but this was an ongoing topic between Walt, Skip, and I the week after we won. We all knew that the next week back would be the beginning of teching... Walt said they were going to look at seals and valve springs.

i agree, you should have a tech man from the racesaver group or the osw, group not a guy that you race against to tech the motors.
