They cant open for racing on the 19th but they can have a practice on the 20th. Whats the differnce

Exactly, this practice thing is a joke at any track.

First off I didn't say he was taking money away from anybody but more like lining his pockets at $25 a head for a barely prepared track at practice. You say that racing is going downhill because of economy well doing this shit doesn't help. I know it might not be the most popular track on this board but Hummingbird only charges $25 per car and the people that are with the hauler don't pay extra. Now that's fair... And btw racing isn't a hobby it's a business. If it was a hobby we wouldn't be paying taxes on the earnings. I've been in this game for over 20 years and all I've seen is backgate prices go up but the pay stays the same and the price for racing equipment goes up. Time to raise the front gate price cause "If you wanna watch you gotta pay" Part of it is the racers fault but part is the tracks for lack of rules or lack of enforcement of said rules. But to get back on topic there is no reason for him to charge $25 per person for practice when there isn't a payout. We will not be there for it and I truly hope that more teams follow suit and not go. But if somebody goes then bitches about the price and track prep then you need a tack hammer to the temple cause you all know what it will be like.

I would first like to call out everyone on this post by asking how many of you people fully own and operate a race track? Because that itself should wipe out ANY comments about money or preparing a track. You people dont know the first thing about it. Running a racetrack is a lot more than scheduling races every week and having cars go in circles around your track. I'd like to call out Tater Salad, you my friend are someone who is hurting the sport of racing. Complaining about 3 weeks? You're the same fan that cries when the track doesnt race and when they do you complain about the racing or the racing surface! So ungrateful! You are lucky dog hollow keeps its doors open to allow people like you to continue to watch and enjoy the sport of racing because as any true race fan, driver or promoter would know that it is going down hill. Car counts low, not as many people coming to watch, bills to pay, purses to pay the drivers! And we have people like BFP92 and I believe Cavalier 13? talking about Jim taking money away from people because he is charging too much for a practice! Buddy racing is a hobby like people on this post mentioned before, IF YOU WANNA PLAY, YOU GOTTA PAY! That goes for anything! Nothing in life is free brother! If you think youre gonna make money in racing you shouldnt be doing it. You wanna know how to make a small fortune in Racing? Start with a big one! Im sure half of you idiots didnt even get that but I'd like to move onto another point. Are you people blind? Can you see the SNOW on the race track? People the weather has been garbage this is western PA, idk maybe some of you people are down in florida or something because anyone in their right mind should realize how cold and miserable this weather has been and to think a racetrack will be ready in three weeks blows my mind. Express man you sure talk like you have a big pocket yourself? LOL get off the message board and open your own track and we will see how it goes. I would say by seeing what you posted that you have 0 knowledge about racing and your track wouldnt even make it through a season. Also, instead of running your mouth on here You should worry about putting some work into that 1K of yours maybe you could gain a spot and finish second to last. I'd like to finish this by giving all of you people a CHALLENGE! You all act as if you can run a racetrack so here, Latrobe Speedway, it is now only being used as a motocross track in the infield of the track. The track itself has grass growing over it. BUY IT! You people act like you have what it takes so show me! Prove me wrong! Its a shame racing has people like you because crying about things like a 3 week delay means you dont understand the sport. Drivers spend countless hours on their cars, do you think they want to tear up thousands of dollars of equipment because of poor track conditions?! Y'all need to put up, or SHUT UP!

Just go to the ville on the 13th and pay a special fee of $30 to practice at the all might race track of Racestud.

It's not $30 for DIRT members. It's either $20 or $25.

Owning a race track IS a business, a business that the owners need to profit from to remain open. Jim Michny is not running a charity, I get that. Neither is DIRT/WRG with Lernerville. They wouldn't be open if they couldn't show a profit. Lernerville is responsible, by far, for the highest weekly purse in the region. Yet, for $14 every Friday, I get to see a show the likes of which DHS would charge $25 for and call a "special", plus add five other classes in order to get the back gate money. Before you go running off at the keyboard about who is siphoning money from whom and to what end, at least get a grip on some facts.

Latrobe Speedway? Really? You go lease it from George Teslovich and find out if you can turn a profit. Chester Aretta tried and failed. So did small business owner Joe Gombach. It's been closed since before the economy went sour, so that can't be used as an excuse. The only way anyone could make money there is to buy it outright.

I could care less if Jim Michny postponed practice for three weeks. He has to do what he has to do. But you are a complete and total fool if you are trying to say he is losing money. Yeah, I'm sure he loves racing and I'm also pretty confident he isn't getting filthy rich from it, either. But he ain't staying open if he's losing money, that's a fact and, good for him.

Are these owners getting filthy rich? No. But they aren't losing their asses as they'd have you believe, either.

Tater Salad you must have never attended a race at Dog hollow because you said in your post earlier about the track being dusty in hot laps? Buddy they haven't ran a hot laps session in over 10 years! GOT HEEEEM! So yeah you can tell me JMO FAQQQQ all you want buddy. Maybe instead of attending the races you should read a book to gain some knowledge LOL. I'd like to thank Walt Wimer for posting about insurance still needing to be payed for a practice!! Jim has to pay workers too! You all don't think about EVERYTHING Jim has to put into consideration. Like I said before you people think running a race track only has to deal with the cars going around your track. And yes Skull why would he run the track if he wasn't making money? That's a dumb comment buddy that's like saying a guy opened up a store but he doesn't want to make any money off of it. NO crap he has to make money! And as for BFP92 no you're wrong, its a business for the track owner, it is a hobby for the drivers and fans. Just like if want to go practice golf you still have to pay to play? You people cry about $25 that's pathetic. Before you run your mouth off put yourself in his shoes and then we'll talk. Happy Easter

Skull . You sir are the typical bleacher creature. Do you know the cost of racing 1 of the big 3 classes at Lernerville? 1st got to buy Dirt pass. 2nd got to buy there Hoosiers or tire of year at almost double the price from them. As far as them paying the best purse. How about subtracting those costs from that. Go there and watch then. If you have no intentions of coming to DHS . Then shut the hell up.

At least he offers you the chance to go out and test your equipment on a prepared surface - many tracks don't schedule a test and tune day.

As for the "dusty as hell" comment - give it up already - there is new clay on the track. You are a broken record.

it came out of a lucking pond!! and he only put a few truck loads on.. LMAO u act like he did the entire track..

I'll second that :P

And racing is a self owned business it's not a hobby. If it was a hobby you couldn't claim expenditures.....

BFP92-Yes it is a hobby, its an expensive hobby that you get rewarded with a little in return for. If you're complaining that you are losing money at it then a good business man would find a way to make money at it, now who is the dumbass? And CAVY 13 what is a lucking pond lol is there money in it? Maybe that's where you need to go to get your money for practice. You people still miss the point, if all the race tracks listened to you people then where would you enjoy what you do? If you don't have $25 to spend to practice and play with your toy all day then why are you racing? Also, read Zero Hero's last post, he hit the nail on the head by comparing Dog hollow and Lernerville.

I don't remember there being weeks of practice sessions at the beginning of the season at race tracks until the the past few recent years. I think holding practice sessions let alone having to charge people for it is stupid.

Well good now I know you're one less person I have to hear crying about paying. And that's where the clay was needed was in the turns. There is gonna be some great racing at the Dog this year once the weather clears up. Happy Easter
