1. Just because a late model show is paying more doesn't mean the racing is going to be better. The N/S paid $50,000 this past weekend but I can guarantee the racing will be better at PPMS this weekend. Outsiders don't make the racing any better either.

2. A 6 hour radius? Spending $50-$100 more in gas to save $5 doesn't make much sense.

3. $25 for this show isn't out of line and seems to be the standard now for $5,000 to win shows. I paid $30 to see the Lucas Oil guys follow each other around for an entire evening at Bedford a couple years ago, compared to that $25 is a hell of a bargain. If I get to see a pass in hotlaps Saturday night I've always received more entertainment value than I got at Bedford that night.

That is YOUR opinion...I'm not paying $25 to see a local show of a TOTAL of around 70-75 cars for 6 divisions when I can pay the same for a BETTER show in 2 months what will have 125-150 cars for 3 divisions plus 75% better quality(since 25% will be cars that are already there in crates and lates). I've been to 3 shows this year and all of them have SUCKED(yes the surface was good and not dusty) except for 2 of the crate features(which honestly is the main reason I go to the races anymore).

Anyone who argues the excitement around watching 25 locals battle for 5k compares to watching the best of the best battle for 50k is insane. It's not the same , local mma fights aren't the same as UFC fights either.

Vince, Purse is a regular Sportsman purse. Pit fee is the same for Sportsman, just as it is for the other divisions for a Sportsman Special. If the Sportsman teams do not wish to race at these events we are open to dropping the class on these type of nights. I assumed guys wanted to race like we wish we could have at Heidelburg Specials that we attended anyhow, maybe I am wrong about that. Times are changing. Ultimately if Sportsman cars do not attend we will be forced to drop the class on special event nights. Hope it's the minority that don't want to race at specials. The class is pretty thin already. Matt Matt, Yes the fields have been rather thin. If everyone who has been running on a semi-regular basis would show all on one night, there would be a 16-19 car field. I know for myself, work commitments, family obligations, other factors(including$$) limit the amount of racing I get to do. I'll assume others are in the same situation. I believe the potential for the division to grow is there, and I believe that Vince has proven that over the past 2 years to you and the others involved in the speedway. I appreciate having a track close to home to race at when I can, but making veiled threats against a division(s) is nothing but detrimental to the ultimate goal we all share.... full fields , great racing, and to be treated with mutual respect. I never take Matt's side on any thing but he's right , the cadets bitched for more money and he gave it to them and the result was an average of 7 cars last year. This year they lowered the pay out and still the same 7 cars !!! The fans do not come
To see the cadets as evidenced by everyone leaving after the crate and super features are over !!! This is nothing against the cadets I understand people invest a lot of time And money in those cars but realistically they don't draw fans. Paying 300 to win and only getting 7 cars by my math they damn near lose money on them every week. I don't care what anyone says but if money is tight enough that an extra 40 dollars in your check is the difference between you coming and not your insane for spending down to you last dime to race anyway. Cadets are meant to be a budget class and the racers decided to make it a class where people spend a bunch of money and that's not the fault of the track.

We all must not forget, this is ppms and all this so called hype about these pit pass prices and grandstand prices has been a lie before. Many times when I raced there through out the yrs I was led to believe that there was a set price and then when I arrived at the gate the price magically changed. My money will be spent else where.

I've been going to pms every week since 01 and have never seen them change the price from the advertised price the day of the race

Koteles racing supports ppms year after year. We have no complate of us racing on a special day. In fact we sponsored 2 laps for the Red Miley race. We enjoy racing and watching every class. Let's support our local tracks instead of complaining about every issues!! This sight is worse than Facebook!!! See ya at the races.

The racing during the afternoons in April may not have been the best, but since they moved to the evenings, the racing has been great. There may not have been passes for the lead every night like there was this past Saturday night, but there is always plenty of passing and side by side racing throughout the field. Sorry you think the shows have sucked. I totally disagree with your assessment, and that is MY opinion.

This isn't a discussion to raise the purse of the Sportsman because honestly $300 to $400 doesn't matter. I've proven if you open up the rules and pay better through the field more cars come. Last year not many cars came for the $700 to win shows because of the rules. This year same $700 to win or EL20, and I believe we had 19, 34, and 15 cars show up (versus 7 for a regular show). All I said was if we're paying $40 to get in, throw us a bone and let us run for $500 to win because the increase in cars would cover that $200.

Refer to page 2 of this topic and you'll see the "error", that's one example of price increases. At the gate or a week before the prices change, has been for years. The lack of people in the stands and lack of cars in the pits tells you I'm right, I'd say that's an accurate gauge.

This post is about a race honoring a fine gentleman with a long history of involvement in Western Pennsylvania auto racing. Take your negativity elsewhere.

This should be a fantastic show. The weather looks good and they should have 30-35 lm and 18-22 sprints. Looking forward to my first visit of the season!

This has to be the dumbest tangent in race stud history 300 or 500 to win is going to bring the same cars the guys with a chance to win will be there either way !! Just like I can build a 15k deck for 11k but why the hell would I ???

Saying the cadets should have a higher purse due to increased admission holds as much water as saying cheeseburgers in the grand stands should be cheaper because admission is higher .... It makes zero sense !!!! Your not renting track time your paying to watch 2 special events in the 2 highest divisions of dirt track racing !!! And as a bonus you get a chance to race for 300

Jon, you're the first to bitch about everyone paying $35 for a Sportsman special but when I ask if we are running for the same purse for $40 to get in I should be honored to watch two divisions race and feel lucky to race for $300? Hell maybe I'll just race for free that night for that privilege!!! If you don't think that extra money would get Jeff, Pat, Jake and a couple others there, you're wrong. I already did the math for you on what 5 cars would add. If you don't believe it, that's your choice. I can't make it any simpler for you. My event had higher car counts than both the Garin and Jook Memorials. I'm not talking out my rear.

Bill,
Not meant as a threat, I have tried to stay out of this stuff on Racestud, but when it comes to the RMR my feelings take over and I speak up. We do all we can to make the RMR Special, including racing all of our divisions even though the show will run longer than we like to run. We see that if everyone would be there at the same time we would be ok, and we have been giving it time. We all know what teams support PPMS year in and year out, we have some very solid PPMS supporters in the Sportsman, and we know it. Drew has even sponsored the RMR every year! Thank You. Really would like the focus to shift back to honoring Red with a great paying high quality regional SLM race, a decent paying Sprint race, and all of our regular divisions. Hope we see all the Sportsman are out at the same time for the next Showdown SAT Sept 14. Good luck the balance of 2013. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, all competitors may do so directly to me at mmiley99@comcast.net and I will respond. I'm better off staying off Racestud!...sometimes just can't resist, I'm a racer a heart! Please email me direct with questions or complaints.
Thanks,
matt miley
