Heavy is the new light. Tanks get good traction, after all.

When this hot setup catches on, I hope tracks implement a maximum weight rule so that there isn't a field full of 4,000 pound late models destroying each other every time there's contact.

Scruff this guys knows everything (don't you know that by now?) Lolol, and if you don't agree with him his patented response is YOUR A RETARD, haha, no doubt a classless hick here!

That is worded incorrectly and will be straightened out on Monday when Terry gets back in town.It will say any aluminum engine blocks will have to add 60 lbs from the transmission forward.

Regardless of the wording, I think we all get the drift. I personally don't agree with having to add 60lbs in front of the trans for having a aluminum block in a late model. When building a late model, the dollar difference between a aluminum vs steel block is not shit compared to what we have invested in these cars. Penalizing a guy that builds a late for having a aluminum block is a kick in the nuts. AMP's 2400 pound weight rule evens the field plenty. I ran at AMP twice last year, took 4th the first time there, and 5th my second time, and my aluminum block didn't make me win the feature. Farrel and several others were running faster times than our car with there steel block. Clinton was 2250 pounds for a super late last year. I see they have smartened up and moved there super late weight rule to 2400 pounds for this year. Hopefully they don't add a 60lbs forward of the tranny rule for an aluminum block late. Since Clinton and amp both are now 2400 pounds for a late, we were planning on running amp quit a bit more this year. No hard feelings to AMP from our team, but if this rule sticks our car and truck load of crew members will not be competing at AMP this coming year.
Good luck to all in 2014................

they aren't penalizing anyone. they're trying to make it fair for the steel blocks to compete with the aluminum engines. there could be a better way to deal with the problem, like lessening the steel block weight limit. but then the steel block guys would have to add weight to run anywhere else. in my opinion, on a track that small, it doesn't really make a whole lot of difference what car has what engine. on a bigger track it definitely would make a difference.

I think they should just stay with the same rules as last year, only because most of the guys running up this way are already invested in Steel Blocks, I don't think the 60 pound up front is necessary if they are sticking with a 2400 pound rule.....If they were running a lower weight like the 2250 at PPMS then the rule of adding an additional 60 pounds up front would be an equalizer of which I could agree with.......Just make it 2400 pounds and call it even same as last year would be fair in my opinion.

Don't know any of these Gentlemen involved here! But I can't beleive they want to chase away racers! IMO I can't understand why they want to cater to these steel Block guys that arer alomost a thing of the past! Today its either Crate or Superlate Thats where the bulk of the available cars are! The only place left in the country running Steel Block is these couple tracks in that area! (Hummingbird Marion Center, AMP ) I would make the rules more user friendly for Super late and ALLOW steel Blocks to run with a weight advantage! The future is Crate model and Superlatemodel. Just like going Non Smoking! Its the way it is! Can't fight it!

I couldn't agree more with the above post. At one time when stock blocks were readily available it made sense but I would venture to bet that 95% of the steel blocks out there are after market so when you pop one bad enough it's unrepairable and you're buying another so now you're putting out close to the same money as new/used aluminum. Of course when the steel block class was restricted with certain rules like it was originally intended the class made financial sense but when promoters got lazy and didn't want to tech properly it got out of control and now you have guys investing near the same amount of money as superlate and race for half the purse. As for the 2400lb rule it's bullshit!! Make it 2300 and if you weigh more because you have a steel block then that's your problem not everybody elses.

why can't there be one set of rules for Late models in general? steel block or aluminum block, that should be a persons preference. instead of super lates, steel block lates, crate lates, and however many other late model classes there are aside from the semi lates. it should just be narrowed down to Late Model, and Crate Late Model. That would end all of the bickering until someone found something new to bitch about.

I agree with all three above posts. I do think Taylor and his crew have done a great job over there, and I applaud them for all they've done. BUT, these weight rules just plain don't make sense. They are racing a Late Model division NOT a steel block division, why have these rules and chase racers away. Chances are you a chasing cars away that are actually quality cars by doing this. I like the above post saying 2300 lbs for all. Those are LM rules. Just like Hummingbird opting again to not open to aluminum blocks, that makes no sense to me. Why cater to the same 10 or 12 Steel Block cars when it is well known that some Aluminum block cars would come if it were opened up. I just don't get the thinking, but I guess don't have a racetrack LOL.

all this could be cleared up with a rules meeting !let the racers vote on it not make rules up as we go.
