Serious question .. Did herb Scott ever race at Ppms ?

he retired about the same time they opened. he was their first flagman. if my memory is  right.

I read somewhere that his son Deek won the first race at PPMS and Herb flagged it, so I'm assuming he never won at PPMS.

No Herb never raced at PPMS. He was the flagman the first several seasons of the tracks existance. The first show at PPMS was rained out before the features, so the first features run at the track ended up being a mid-week special for the sprints/big block mods and street stocks. Deek Scott won the mods, Keith Kauffman won the sprints, and Rich Britton won the stocks. The following week's regular show was a double feaure program. Bob Wearing won the first Late Model race, with John Johnson winning the Semi-Lates and Joe Gombach winning the Stocks. The second features were postphoned after Herm Myers jumped the inside guardrail during the Late Model consy and knocked a telephone pole down, knocking out the lights. Herb won his last feature on July 21 at Latrobe a few weeks after PPMS opened and retired afterwards. Deek had run Herb's car at PPMS a few times while Herb was flagging. Steve Tancrator ended up buying Herb's last car.

To clear this up, Deek Scott won the first Modified race ever run at PMS on June 14, 1979, beating Bob Wearing and Blackie Watt.  However, Bob Wearing won the first Late Model race on June 17, 1979 over L.J. Dennis and Brian Muehlman in one of the Auction Barn cars. The track was to have opened on May 26 but got rained out and then canceled again the next week due to track and grounds "too wet". On the third try not all the features were completed on June 10, so Wearing had to wait another week to be the first winner.  1979 appears to have been just as wet as 2015 as no less than 9 races were rained out or canceled due to weather.  Only 9 programs were run that year with Dennis the only repeat winner.  Regular wins also went to Joe Mihalic, Lynn Geisler, and Denny Chamberlain. There were three "specials" won by Jimmy Bertges, Dave Hoffman and Rodney Combs.  My first ever visit to the track was on August 12 when Hoffman won a 75 lap "invite" over Geisler and Tom Peck.  Hoffman was driving the Brockett #76 from Ohio.  I remember being pretty impressed by the size of the track and the racing speeds!!   The night of Deek Scott's win was a mid-week show for Modifieds and Sprints with Keith Kauffman winning the Sprint Car race over Steve Smith (Sr.) and Richard Lupo.

Not a sanctioned race, but yet 25.00 for GA, come on. Wonder how many sportsman guy's take there tow money and run ? there hopeful a few more cars will show up but Herb never raced there. I'm not sure if there is any speedway's still in operation today that he raced at regularly.

Of course Miley Motor Sports went to the Scott family for permission to run an event for our childhood hero. Bens car is pink today due to Herb!

jo73...............YES, Lernerville!!    Scott ran there a few years and won 8 times.  Including his 500th career win!!!

Lets lighten things up some.Herb won his first race at what track and what year. Also what was he driving. This race is about a racer who won 500 races. I think it is a great tribute. If memory serves me right PPMS did have a race for Danny Burns. Danny was one of the good guys in racing. He was a good friend.                                           Good Luck.

Probably about 1949. But my records don't go back nearly so far!!  I first saw him run about 1952 in the Beckman Motors #180 at the old Butler track.
