It doesn't take cheating to win.

Corey doesn't need to cheat he can drive & I think he'd be faster with a good built motor instead of that turd crate.

How do you cheat up a 604 to the tune of 9395.00 and pass the tear down specs that cory's motor did?.........there's a little hp to be had on a rebuild but not to that $ tune

Bet they spend more time on the sales pitch than the rebuild

Times, they are a changing!  People need to adjust to the new times, new rules of racing...*upgrade*.  Nothing stays the same!  Change is good!

It's impossible to make the show without at least 440 cubic inches of ry45 based Cornett thunder in the cadets .... Even on the slickest of conditions . You can't get into a winning cadet under 80k !!!

A lot of those guys build their own motors for half of what a crate costs. And like green55 said he takes pride in doing it himself. If the crates are competing well then let them run with the open motors. The only people who save money by buying crate engines are the guys who cant build their own motors. It is another option but should not be mandatory. Plus how many guys are now going to spend ridiculous amounts of money on parts to be faster. The crate concept started out as a good plan but quickly got out of control and people are spending 3 times more than they use to. Look at the crate latemodels, what a cost efficient class that turned out to be.

I can tell you for a fact you don't have to spend 3 times more to win with a crate. Just saying. I've seen it with my own eyes.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but how many HP are guys gaining by "cheating up" these 604's for $9,395?  If it's say 25 HP, to me it's not worth it for the extra few grand right?  Again maybe I'm naïve but we were down 75-100 HP in emods and won on slick nights, wouldn't set up and driving make up the 25 HP in a Crate?  Why even bother?  I know Jared Mileys Crate was right out of the box and he won with it.

Bob, I think the cure (crate engines), are worse than the disease (ways to lower overall engine costs).

Corey McPherson has proven that you don't need a 'cheated up' 604 to win. He's won Championships and MANY races with both 604's that he's had. You're right...it's not worth the extra HP.

And this just proves it's not all about the HP.....when the track is slick Corey's 604 pulls away especially because his crew knows how to set up a car and he knows how to drive. On a tacky track, the crate is down on HP. But how many nights is it tacky rather than slick?

I think racers are just tired of hearing how great the crate motor is and how it will save money. Bottom line is Leave the rules the way they are. if the crates are so good they will prove them self or dye off over time.DONT CHANGE THE RULES...30

No one has the answer for this crate debate. There is a lot of these guys that still have the back yard no how on putting together a competitive sportsman class motor. The questions that haven't been answered is WHAT IS THE BACK DOOR DEAL ? If you think there isn't one, your nuts. Let's say it again, you have a good weekly car count. You have a VERY COMPETITIVE class. The racers have supported the speedway for years. I have looked at buying a car. Complete packages have gone from 5000 to 10k. With this hanging out there, I've decided to just sit back and let this stupid deal run its course.

Let's face it. The ss class is out of control. And the tracks and drivers are all to blame. We did this to ourselves. Bring the motor limit to 406. Let crates run with a weight break. This allows some to get into a ss without spending 12 grand on a motor. Stop the open motor rules. If that doesn't work...put those big motors on 8inch tires...then see them try to hook up. They can't complain about what motor to buy or who builds their own motor bla bla bull shit. They can put a 440 in and they will go no where on 8inch tires. Then...let them cry. For the money some are spending in this class they could have a good late model. If they don't want to get a 406 for a ss then they can get a lm chassis cause they already have a motor that will run fine in that class
