OK, what does everyone think of the new NASCAR deal of the charter teams?  I for one don't like it...what does everyone else think?

No charter teams at Sportsmans Speedway this year.

This is what it means...NASCAR gave "charters" to 36 teams, leaving only four spots open for other people to try and qualify...so 36 teams will get in every race this year no matter what...that leaves four spaces open to teams that don't have a charter to try and qualify...it's essentially a union, belong to our union or you don't get in.

Also these charters can be sold also, just like a liquor license can be sold, charter can be sold to the highest bidder.

I think it is better for the smaller teams looking for potential sponsors by guaranteeing that a spot on the race track and on tv. It also lets the teams have something of value to sell if they every decide to get out of the sport. One of the smaller teams is actually leading out their charter for the season. The race teams have been asking for something like this for a long time.

And let's not forget that after Daytona there will only be 40car starting fields. No more 43 car fields. I don't believe they where going to have full fields anyhow and there just taking in the money for the charter. And if a team does decide to sell/get out. He is going to gain slightly by having the option of selling there license.

I don't think it's a good thing...back up a few years, and if a team such as Furniture Row were to come on the scene now it would be almost impossible for them to break in to the sport.

Well... what's the difference between that and dirt or outlaws guaranteeing start positions for one of their paid drivers? Sure, locals can make the show, but only after the certain few "gualify" I guess I assumed that's pretty much how nascar really functioned already anyhow

Furniture Row has to go against the top 35 rule and made it. Now teams can buy charter or race there way into every event.

When Furniture Row came on the scene there was no charter...it is going to be very difficult for any low buck team such as Furniture Row once was and make it into a race or break into the sport...it will even be difficult for a team that comes along that is funded to break into the sport...how many teams are really going to want to sell their charter?

NOBODY. Unless of course you want to pay thru the nose. A start up team right now is going to be running for the 4 remaining spots. My question is. Let's say you have a NEW team such as furniture row racing. Your new team starts running top 10 and starts to lead some races. Your new team because of these charters can no longer gain sponsorship because they of course understand what NASCrap has done for the Gibbs, Roush, Hendrck, and more that I no I have omitted. If the teams finishing 30th and worse lose there sponsorship they still have a guaranteed starting spot. My question is very simple.

WHAT THE HELL HAS RACING BECOME ? powerful men in all types of major league racing now want the game played by there way. There was a group like this many years ago. The former of racing they took over was called USAC CHAMPIONSHIP RACING. Does everyone remember the deals they where cutting with chassis builders and engine manufacturers ? Do you remember the empty, and yes to this day, racetracks ? These owners DO NOT CARE. They have resources beyond anyone's imagination.

Look at Ganassi, he has more sponsorship in NASCRAP, INDY CAR, AND IMSA RACING. In 2 of those series they mite as well let people in for free because the fans are not bringing in dollars.

NASCRAP has now seen that light. Only they are putting covers over complete 3rd tier sections of seats. Gone is what you used to see. MEET THE NEW FORMAT OF RACING.

Exactly...it will be almost impossible for new teams to break into NASCAR....scenario:  suppose Donald Trump gets tired of running for president and he decides that he wants to get into NASCAR, well forget it, he can't unless he finds a team that wishes to sell their charter, small chance that he would however, unless a team goes defunct, (exp:  Waltrip)) there may be some small teams out there that would be willing to do so, but they are going to be few and far between, you may have to wait years for this...of course he could just put together a team and hope for the best with the remaining four spots, but that's going to be a slim chance...and anyone with any common sense is not going to put millions into a team and hope to get one of those four spots.

Trust me that I see the side of teams also, but it will vastly hinder new teams breaking into the sport...by the way feelings are that the going rate for a charter will start at $10 million and go up from there.

Why would the Woods Brothers not be offered a "charter"? They have been in NASCAR long before some of the money teams. Seems like about 4-5 teams have over

Half the cars in the field. Must be a Obama theory behind this.

The woods brothers not being given a charter should be cause for all of us to stop watching this bullshit dog and pony show .

Wood bros haven't been running the full schedule. They are really the only team that got the bone on this deal. Anyone else that doesn't have a charter would probably be racing to get in every week no matter what system they ran. It's just NASCAR. No one cares anymore anyway.

In order to get a charter you had to at least attempt qualifying for I believe 36 races last year...so even though the Wood Brothers have fielded a team, and some of the most successful drivers ever, have a full sponsorship this year, and been racing longer than most of us have been on the face of the earth, they don't get a charter...I love asphalt racing and have been watching NASCAR since I was 10 years old...I used to watch it on ABC's Wide World of Sports, and have disagreed with a lot of stuff they have done...but this charter thing is really making me take pause and think...it is going to be close to impossible for new teams, plus the Wood Brothers to obtain a charter...

Ryan Blaney is fast, and certainly has the potential to pull off a win for the Woods Brothers if he can avoid the inevitable "big one".
