Two weeks ago we ventured to Portsmouth Raceway Park for the BOSS Wingless Sprint show. Its a four and half hour trip each way but it was well worth it. Temperatures were in the mid 90s that afternoon but the track prep crew were hard at work when we arrived. In spite of the hot temps there was minimal and I do mean minimal dust for the four division program. The program was efficient, car counts were excellent (4 BOSS heats, 2 LM heats, 4 E-Mod heats and 2 Bomber heats) and we were on our way home by 10:00PM. Prices were $12.00 for the stands and $25.00 for the pits.
That Monday I wrote a review of the track on their Facebook page and also sent them an e-mail expressing how enjoyable the evening was. I did receive a nice note back from management thanking us for our attendance and kind words.
I realize all tracks have their problems, etc. on any give night but when things go smoothly I would hope more fans would let management know they were happy.

Says the moron who knows nothing about track prep.
I don't know. Maybe you are correct.
However, the undergraduate and graduate degrees hanging on my wall next to my license to practice in the Commonwealth (which I passed a competency exam to earn) suggest that I might know something about the crytallography and mineralogy of clay minerals and clay in soil ("dirt" to those not educated on the topic) as well as their hygroscopic and pendicular associations with water.
With that being said, I will stand by my statement that lazy track prep is endemic to dirt track racing - especially in the northeast.
What exactly is it that qualifies you as a non-moron again? Besides telling others that they are morons?

I go to Portsmouth at least twice every summer, and I was there the week before you. It is a very nice facility, good prices, good food, good car counts, good racing. My only gripe is that they qualify everything but the water truck for a weekly show. I am curious as to how you got out of there at 10 PM. Having been there 25 times in the last fifteen years, I've never gotten out of there before midnight, which is not a problem for me ( I don't know why people complain about being at a racetrack more than 3 hours), but I think it's great that you actually gave the track positive feedback.

Some people seem to think that they know it all. Some people claim to know very little. But until you are a fan, who has owned and drove on both slick and heavy tracks I don't believe you can make a valid argument against someone who has. Some had success on heavy tracks with reasonable money and some dominate on slick tracks with tons of money. The point is most of the stuff on here is opinion only and people with the negative opinions are the ones that are not necessarily hurting the tracks but they sure aren't helping.
Right, and my opinion of slick and heavy tracks is just that, my opinion. I like it when the track is favorable for competition, whatever that takes in track conditions. A lot of what I've seen this year at Lernerville is one real groove. I've seen guys get alongside with no real chance to pass. That's not what I prefer.
That doesn't mean that I have answers, but if I don't say anything how will those who do know there's a question. As I've already said, the current voices of Lernervile and Mercer are on this board.
My dad drove late models in the early 70's at North Hills, Butler, Mercer, Blanket Hill, and occasionally Tri City. We won the last late model track championship at Blanket Hill.
