While I enjoyed the races this weekend, I think with the Labor Day weekend being so busy for Late Models a big car count isn't really in the cards for them in the future. I really hope they consider adding some divisions to the weekend to make it a better show if they continue with the WoO format that was used. I actually liked the format as change of pace, but more divisions are needed. Maybe Sprints on Friday and Big Blocks on Saturday with 2500 or 3000 to win specials would work since Sharon isn't racing on Labor day weekend anymore. The Saturday show had a lot of killing time going on, and only 5 actual races where run.

From central PA to Eldora there were no less than 10 special high purse Late Model races over the Labor day weekend.  Add in tracks still running regular shows, and there just aren't enough cars around for any race to have a very high car count!!  It would be great to see the Sprints or big block Modifieds added to this holiday weekend show at Lernerville!!

Would like to see them bring back the old Triple Invitational's they had back in the day. Unsanctioned with no tire rules....

Those use to be some dang good shows!

With the new ownership and recent change in management, I bet you don't see this race on the schedule next year.  It could not have been a success with the car count and the crowd.....

Been thinking on how this show could be changed and made more successful for all.  I have some ideas that would include the Sprints and Modifieds, so that all of Lernerville's four classes would be in action over the holiday weekend.  I'll pass my thoughts on to Father Tim Tompson, who is looking for ways to improve Lernerville.

Maybe he needs to knock the dust off the highly successful book of fan and driver friendly race track promotion that Don Martin used to make Lernerville Speedway one of the greatest tracks in the Country.

It seems former owners and promoters brushed all those tried and proven methods aside thinking they could "build a better mouse trap" and forgot what made Lernerville Speedway what it once was.....

Why not put the penn Ohio series on the schedule ? It is proven that if the purse has been raised to a moderate level. A 2000 to 2500 winner's purse it will attract the cars and there families. The Laboon race, the mini series at Sharon, both taking advantage of the series. Lernerville with there ridiculous decision to make the sportsman racers a crate only division has limited there ability to draw cars from surrounding tracks.

You add a big block modified or sprint cars to the slate. You then have a higher purse and quite possibly a lower back gate. Will it bring more fans in the stands ? That is questionable in itself. The racing fan has many options over labor day weekend.

It was mentioned that Tomson's is open to listening to idea's. Where was this month's ago ? I am dam sure there are a many back door deals in racing. I still do not believe the decision that was made was in the best interest of the facility ( lernerville ) it's racers or the fans.

I like them, when I can make it.  But that really is just me.

I had already thought that it would be interesting to see all of the WRG tours in town in one weekend.  It may be a bit cost prohibitive though.

My dad drove late models in the early 70's at North Hills, Butler, Mercer, Blanket Hill, and occasionally Tri City. We won the last late model track championship at Blanket Hill.

getting to be too much saturation anymore, that's what made Pennsboro cool..once a year seeing all the cars you've only read about.
now they are somewhere close every other week.

and as far as the new Promoter,Walt if you have his ear tell him to read this.. http://web.a-znet.co...1w/don-mrtn.htm

every promoter should read it and treat the racers like they are the show and not just another dollar bill for their wallet that doesn't matter either way.

"How'd you do tonite," he asked when I approached him. "Thirteenth. I just couldn't get hooked up at all. I didn't think it would get so slick" I apologized. "Well, it was your first time here. The track stays smooth but it won't hold the moisture if we don't tear it up. If we tear it up it gets rough and it's hard on the guy's cars." he said almost in a whisper. He was right. It was really easy on the engine and didn't even wear the tires. But it was a lot trickier to set up for than I had guessed. "Do you need a room for the night? he asked. "No I'll head down the road for Port Royal tomorrow night."

If I didn't know any better and listened to everyone on social media, I would've sworn Lernerville had a foot-high cushion half-way up the track every night when Don ran it. Looks like we can stop beating that dead horse.

Adding the Sprints and Big Blocks would make the event stand apart from the other Super Late Specials from a fan's point of view. If the WoO doesn't run Lernerville that weekend they will run somewhere else. Attica has the Sprints with the Lucas series.

There are countless of good stories about Don interacting with the drivers. He was always helping them one way or another. And he treated everyone as family. The promoters to-day should take a lesson from his book, they might learn something about running a track.

I thought the Sportsman were the best class weekly at LV 8 different winners side by side racing and the engine package saved the racers money! You stated last year they wouldn't get 10 cars, 18 plus every week!
Next year 25 -30.
The only thing ridiculous are your comments.

Crusty. Times have surely changed. But, do you realize that this was the first year the car counts in the sportsman ranks have been down. Everyone thinks I hate crate racing. I do not. I think it's dam good racing for the late model guys. you also used to see 30 cars at lernerville. Times have made it hard for guys. The rule isn't the only reason counts are down.

The car count for Stocks were down last year compared to years past. They rarely had enough cars for three heats which was the general rule for a long time. So counts were dropping before the crate rule.
