You could never mix crates in with supers at ville. Unless the track was dead slick.

I never want to see anyone get hurt let alone die.

I also am all for the safety rules and have personally put up my own money to make sure our driver has certain expensive safety items.

However, when a driver straps in they assume the risk which is injury and potentially god forbid it death.  No matter how hard that is to swallow that is the truth.

I guess Doug Wolfgang didn't get the memo on that point.

I know about Doug's career and his injury but I must be too young to fully understand your statement.

He didn't assume the risk. He sued everybody and their cousin.

Wolfgang was my favorite outlaw driver back then. After what took place in that situation it really had me not pulling as hard for him. It didn't matter that he couldn't come back. If it was family or lawyer pressure will we never understand. HE decided to take that extra lap after everyone had seen the yellow and your suppose to slow down. People risked there lives to get him out. I wonder if they call it the wolfgang rule in WoO today as you see all the cars are mostly at low speed until the green and immediately after the yellow comes out ?

Carl Bowser brings up a good point when asked if he was running Lernerville on Friday. "It's tough. We want to support the fans and sponsors there. But we're torn when a double purse is advertised then changed to a $50 bonus." That's straight from Twitter. How can Lernerville advertise double purse on the schedule that was out the first of the year, advertised in Area Auto as double purse, and all the sudden the week before it's a 50 dollar increase? Can someone explain this?

Lernerville is just another track on the map anymore....It still has its mystic somewhat but will never rebound to what it once was IMO.....It's the economy, the owners, too many racing divisions or whatever else you would wanna add to this but the glory days there are just history now....Another good example of this is Hagerstown...Once the "Dirt Track Capital" ,now just the average Saturday night race track to go to.

I think I see why you aren't impressed. Not much happening there on Saturday.

That's funny.

My dad drove late models in the early 70's at North Hills, Butler, Mercer, Blanket Hill, and occasionally Tri City. We won the last late model track championship at Blanket Hill.

1 thing that I don't believe has been brought up about lernerville. Not that many years ago lernerville was the only Friday track other than I believe bedford. Rick strong used to race lernerville. Now you have dog hollow and thunder mtn, never been there, they are Friday correct ? Roaring knob, again never been there but I think they mite be Saturday. Lernerville had butler fairgrounds going head to head but Don Martin put a end to that.

Add to that how much faster the top groove is from the bottom groove and you have another incentive for the drivers to go to those tracks, along with tire rules, etc..

I don't know what the answer is, but I hope there is one.

How many cars that race either of those tracks consistently ran Lenerville prior?

I think in Supers it comes down to you have guys spending 100's of thousands of dollars to race for a bag of chips and a tea, when you compare it to the money spent to win it. That has driven the Weekend Warriors away.

I feel this hit our area the most with the introduction of the XR1 that's when I remember guys talking about the cost to compete the most. Obviously it's been going on longer but I know we have had some serious discussion around what to do. You basically have to upgrade or get out.

There are guys that have more money in the shock package they run then some guys spend on there whole car. Then you add in a 50k motor with a 40k rolling chassis. Knocks the peg way down on who can afford to compete and win.

You can't even say well then run a crate because you have guys buying the same stuff as a guy in a Super is buying and then taking the "crate" motor to someone to get it spec'd out with the best parts money can buy.

Look at the stuff big teams are doing just to create speed. The Weekend Warrior can't afford data aquistion, pull down rigs, testing etc. All this trickles down then, but at a cost.

Then you have a track that advertises one thing such as increased purse and then change it or just straight up cancel your division 2 days before the race. All these things negatively impact the smaller teams and gives them one more blow to absorb. Well funded teams can shrug it off easier.

I get it you can't tell people how to spend the money they have but $100k race cars aren't helping car counts. Not many people can finish last weekly laugh it off and say they had fun.

Only point being made was 20 yrs ago there were enough cars around for full fields at all tracks. PPMS takes HP , Lernerville with a heavy track needs the same. Nobody wants to see there favorite track gone, but with 9 car fields you have to wonder what the future is for some tracks. It may help others to survive.

Back in the mid 80's Lernerville was almost flat in the corners. The racing was awesome all night long. Driver talent was more important than hp. Six full divisions started at 7:30 and you were rarely there after 10:30. The clay just as tacky after the last race as it was for the first heat.
