SUMMER SHOOTOUT AT TRI CITY RACEWAY PARK FINDS BOBBY WHITLING IN VICTORY LANE FOR $1,000 TO-WIN HOMAK PENN OHIO PRO STOCK CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES!

For Immediate Release

August 23, 2017 (Sandy Lake, PA) With a field of 27 cars on hand, Bobby Whitling didn’t disappoint his hometown crowd with a stellar performance bringing home the Homak Penn Ohio Series win at Tri City Raceway Park on Sunday, August 20th.  Whitling, also known as the Seneca Slider, battled from the 9th starting spot to park his #7W Slider Chassis in victory lane to claim the $1,000 prize.

Three heat races had the 27 drivers battling for the top four spots in each heat to participate in a redraw to determine starting position for the A Main.  Heat race winners were Rusty Moore #17M, Andrew Gordon #25G, and Whitling.

Leading all 27 drivers to the green flag for the 20 lap Summer Shootout were Leigh Wheeler #717 and Bill Hurrelbrink #c8.  Fourth starter and current Homak Penn Ohio point leader Rusty Martz #16M used the outside going into turn one and two to lead lap one over Wheeler and Hurrelbrink.  Sixth starter Jackson Humanic #17 quickly took over the runner up spot behind Martz on lap two when the first caution flag flew for a spinning car in turn four.

Martz chose the outside to restart putting Humanic on the inside.  Martz maintained the lead while Humanic gave up the second spot to Hurrelbrink on lap four but another caution flag would slow racing action.  Martz again took the outside line to restart the field putting Hurrelbrink to the inside.  Drivers would complete one lap with Martz continuing to command the field while Hurrelbrink held onto to second, Wheeler in third, Humanic in fourth, and Curt Bish #29 in fifth but the run was short-lived as the third caution flag waved before lap six was complete.

The field regrouped with Martz at the helm and Hurrelbrink to his inside.  Lap six seven, and eight had Martz out front, Hurrelbrink in second, ninth-starter Whitling now in third, followed by Humanic and Wheeler in the top five.  Another caution flag flew at the completion of lap eight.  On the restart, a loose wheel had Bob Sloss spinning and collecting several cars on the front stretch bringing out the red.

When racing action resumed, Martz held onto the top spot over Hurrelbrink and Whitling.  On lap 11, Whitling made a move on Hurrelbrink to take over the runner up position.  The move came just in time as the final caution flag would give Whitling a chance to start beside the leader.  Martz restarted the race and used the outside line to hold onto the lead but the Seneca Slider found his groove on the inside.  The two battled side by side on laps 14, 15, 16, and 17 providing fans with edge-of-the-seat racing action.  Whitling edged Martz at the line on lap 15; however lap 16 belonged to Martz.  The winning move occurred on lap 17 as Whitling was credited with the lead and would open the gap over Martz and the rest of the field for the final three laps.  Martz came home in second, Hurrelbrink in third, Bob Schwartzmiller #28S in fourth, and Curt Bish #29 coming home in the fifth spot.  Substitute driver for Dave McManus #114, Daryl Charlier finished in sixth, followed by Humanic, Brent Johnson #92X, Pat Fielding #23, and Rusty Moore rounding out the top 10.

Contingency prizes awarded went to: Bobby Whitling #7W, Hoosier Tire from Precise Racing & Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic; Bill Hurrelbrink #c8, American Racer Tire from Lias Tire; Nick Kocuba #10 advancing 12 positions, $50 Hard Charger from Shaffer’s Auto & Exhaust; Hunter Exley #23HJR, $25 Certificate from Big Daddy’s Speed Center; Bobby Whitling #7W, racing rim from SS Chassis; Brent Johnson #92X, $100 certificate Close Racing Products; Bill Phillips Jr. #23JR, case of oil from Les Frickshun; Bill Hurrelbrink #c8, $75 certificate Genesis Shocks; Rusty Martz #16M, $50 certificate from Schoenfeld Headers; Bob Schwartzmiller #28S, $25 certificate from ARbodies; Andrew Gordon #25G, $25 certificate from Big Daddy’s; Curt Bish #29, $25 certificate from Wedge Motorsports; Curt Bish #00, $25 gift card from Precise Racing Products; Nick Kocuba #10, fuel jug from Precise Racing Products; Rusty Moore #17M, wheel cover from Dirt Defender.
