In reality a merchant providing a weekly racing class on the track for purpose of selling parts to racers is no different to tracks except for product then an ice cream vendor selling to your front gate fans.

I'm shocked you and Jo aren't up Lernerville tonight watching 12 late models go fast! it's all about the speed remember?! Those 12 cars probably attracted a standing room only crowd too I bet.

94.3.  You expressed your thoughts on how you think the new exclusive vendor sold to racers is the greatest thing since controlled late racing was sold to racers.

i put down in my last post reason i think it is not,   Do you have any input of reason to support your starting this thread.  i read your first post as just blowing smoke for the sake of watching hot air rise.

oh i don't know.........three cars under a blanket at the finish line might  turn your old decrepit head a bit.       like, holy f#$k, that was awesme...........

I understand what DS2 is saying 55,  but how does slapping the racer with a surcharge help the matter??  A premium promoted show the track can gain from at the front gate will depend on the racing being good.  I am saying that the crate racing at L'ville this year.... so far... has been good.  Should racers who run an XR1 pay a surcharge because Mark Richards needs local racetracks to sell his products??  I know DS2 is knowledgeable,  but sometimes I think this debate gets clouded by the hatred of crates and the people attempting to make money on them.

I have been looking at this post for over half an hour, and i just can't understand the comparison.  Can someone please translate this analogy for me.

I agree. It was One race! What happened when the race before the three-day firecracker event is dry and slick cuz they don't want to tear up the track and these guys are just all over the place looking for traction. Everybody is acting like this is going to be the next best thing at Lernerville.

It's not the speed. It's the ability to pull alongside and make a pass. If the motor is underpowered and can't accelerate off the bottom, the guy on the inside might be able to get alongside, but the pass was never possible, and the attempt comes with the penalty of loss of position to the drivers who didn't get out of line. If I wanted to see that, I could watch nascrap for free.

The other criticism, is the empire building that is muscling out division that can pass, either by requiring drivers who build their own motors to exit the division or by pulling cars from divisions with competition.

If the new sprints are racy, great!

My dad drove late models in the early 70's at North Hills, Butler, Mercer, Blanket Hill, and occasionally Tri City. We won the last late model track championship at Blanket Hill.

Hmmm, and yet I remember Bobby Kennedy passing Bobby Wearing and Flinner from 3rd place from the bottom to win at Lernerville. Granted, it was a few years ago.

And not 1 person responded to how many people were in attendance. Will someone explain to me, How is a track operator suppose to stay open if the fans are not in the seats ? Everyone says how great the racing was, 11 cars, what about the other classes ? how long is Tomson going to keep reaching in his pocket to cover his losses ? Racers and paying customers keep gates open. Go ahead tell me about how I don't live up north any longer. You want me to tell you how many tracks here in the south are dead and gone ? You want to tell me that housing development across the street is going to love hearing race cars 2 nights a week instead of one ? Maybe if Tomson's do that they will have a excuse. Funny how other tracks are doing better than lernerville with car counts. Anyone with half a brain realizes it's about that idiot tire rule. But, I suppose I'm wrong on that to.

Id say it might be unadvertised that RUSH is renting the track the nights their new product is raced.  Even if crowds are down it may be after money is counted a cost effective way to display their new product and provide someplace for their racer customers to race.

i can envision negotiations going like this.  RUSH, can we come to some meeting of the minds to open up the track to Wednesday racing with RUSH sprints as the headliner?   Thompsons....NOWAY.  RUSH, then will you rent me the track Wednesday and ill make it profitable for me.    Thompsons.......Sure, here's the price.   RUSH.......   we have a deal

edit.....  The proof in this pudding may be was Mike race director Wednesday?

All i've really done on here is to offer thoughts on the real crate business model to sell parts and services to racers behind all the racing smoke screen.  I do give RUSH accolades if they are renting Lernerville Wednesdays etc. to provide their racer customers a place to use what they purchased from RUSH.  IMO, its the right thing for them to do.

Their good ethics tho does not take away my fears about how their pure money making efforts will hurt winged 410 racing.  The future as always will have final say.

Hate to say it, but dirtstudent's rambling is spot on with regard to RUSH/crates.

I guess it really isn't my problem anymore, as crate racing has kept my "decrepit" ass at home.  I simply don't go anymore.  I come on these boards out of habit hoping that IMCA modifieds will catch on in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast someday.

Maybe Vickie should buy Mercer back and run all her crate classes there.

IMO, as long as shes able to provide a place for her customers to race via hype and negotiation she has no need for a track.  That's the beauty of it until tracks wise up and realize the crate parts sales business cant exist without a free or very cheap place for their customers to race.  I don't see track owners as dummies.  There in the cat bird seat and if they choose can squeeze every nickel out of the crate parts sales business to racers by simply charging what ever they want to provide a place for racing.

Stan of FASTRACK honestly and openly explained it.   Racers and tracks are his customers.  Thats it in a nutshell.

they are closed because passing was minimal, and divisions were less to be desired. lernerville would be the perfect rush track.......i'd point vicki that way....

94.3 you are wrong. Vicki was quite successful at Mercer. The comment about the racing was also wrong. Really poor decision making is what killed Mercer, that and a promotional team that blamed all the mistakes in every other direction but there own.
