I've heard the same thing. If that is the case, I hope Dennis at Latrobe is paying attention.

I'd be more than happy to tow my car up there as would a couple others that I've talked to.

Between some PPMS cars and the guys who used to run at Roaring Knob I think he would have a good start on a decent field of cars

tyler39 I was just wondering where and who you heard this from and what your thoughts are PRO or CON. And are you moving up to the crates if this happens.

Keep building that penn/Ohio series. I'm not sure what the HP and torque numbers are for the 604. If they are better than the current crate numbers I would say on a slick track they may preform well. But again, I know nothing about the 604.

Your right about the slick track at Pittsburgh
It doesnt care or respect those motors with 200 more Hp than the 604 motor
So its back to the weight equalizer ? Or will they say you must pay a pretty lady 60000 for that certain truck motor build by those certain truck motor builders with those certain bolts ?
Penn Ohio has a crate / weight provision in its rules and Pittsburgh had provisions for a 604 style spec but eliminated that to head the penn Ohio rules
My point is you have the 604 rules there already and I believe the pro stock track champion runs. Crate ??

Going to RUSH sanction or just 604 mandate?

More power is advantageous, regardless of track conditions.

The body ..downforce/drag... is a huge factor @ PPMS.

Wheelbase,bodies,crate engines need policing.

http://www.pennohiop... OHIO RULES.pdf

16.WEIGHT

GM 602 Crate any tire 2600 lbs

Any c.i. car utilizing 8” tires 2700 lbs

All cars utilizing anything other than 8” tires must weigh
2900 lbs(exception 602 crate cars)

17.TIRES:
Any compound
Maximum tread width 14” flat surface
Grooving and siping permitted

ENGINE RULES:  Steel Block, Steel Heads
88958602 Crate EngineThis engine has a part number for each item sold; any item is subject to
inspection.  Allpart numbers and casting numbers must be visible for inspection.  GM engine seal bolts must be in place or be sealed by a Crate Racin’ USA, RUSH or FASTRAK certified builder.

GM 604 is allowed but must meet all GM specifications and be factory sealed or sealed by a certified RUSHor Crate USA rebuilder.

(All 604’s MUST WEIGH 2900lbs unless on 8” tires)

As you see there
A 604 is just an underpowered motor now that they took away the 100 lb weight break for it
The other cars that weigh 2900 are open motor
More power is advantageous in any track conditions is true on paper but it doesnt hold true on the track with every car and especially every driver
The slick track evens the fields chances by a big margin
Example the 33 at Lernerville couple seasons back

100% true DavyLee2

Driver, setup and all other things being equal; if your on the same tires and running at the limit of grip the winner will, except for luck, be the car which is 100#'s lighter.

That is the bait on the crate hook.

Low power is just plain easier to drive on low traction tracks. Its not so much a weight thing (though it helps). People complain that our local 358 semi-lates are cheating because they turn faster laps than the supers some nights. You think you can cheat an all steel 358 wet sump motor to make more power than a wide bore Cornett? Good luck! And the semis have to weigh more than the supers. It doesnt happen regularly, but it definitely happens. Im sure it happens a lot at tracks that run supers and crates as well.

The release for 2019 31st Pittsburgher says pro stock for Friday night and announced Rush Prio Stocks Saturday night
That press release does not confirm the track is running Rush pro stocks
But they are definitely considering it as they state they are evaluating the rules package
And accepting opinions
Well they have mine 67x
So be sure and send them an email

the rumor is out that an email from Miley Motorsports is circulating saying the Sportsman class going 604 is a done deal.

the cost of someone currently racing the division will be in the 7 to 8 grand range if we want to continue to race at our home track..not to mention having to give up on traveling to any Penn Ohio races.

its understandingly got some people upset.

Danny I agree with everything you said below. The other part of it is long term survival. How many guys new to the sport or in hobby stocks now are going to spend the $10-15k for a competitive open stock motor, let alone what the top Penn Ohio guys have hammer wise? Less horsepower also means older cars and not new $20K rollers can be competitive again.

Yes, there will absolutely be short term pain if this goes forward. There will be nights of around 5 cars in a feature. But the average car count last year was 11 anyway.

Im also hopeful Penn Ohio will consider giving the 604s a weight break to be competitive in their series (versus making the open cars bolt on 200# at tracks with 604s or Mercer. If there are 30-35 604s locally it may be time to welcome them back into the series and keep growing. I know 5 drivers that will immediately roll their eyes at that statement over the fury at Lernerville making the change so they kind of forced the 604s out by making them and open motors weigh 2900#. But co-existence in my opinion is the best for the sport.
