Lets say 25% of the fans hard stop coming to the track if they drop SLM. Assuming that is even true, whats that maybe 100-125 people on an average non special night? Thats $1500.

Add 20-25 Crates, plus the kick back from Rush, at $30 each plus 4 guys on average in the crew, and a reduced payout, its a no brainer from a business sense.

Agree with the WoO sanctioning points above. Whats the firecracker get nowadays - 35 cars?

You think there's only 400-500 people in the stands at Lernerville each week?

And they pay them peanuts too.
Port Royal just to win the 410 and LM is $3600 and $2000.
The Grove pays the winner $3880.
I'm betting the total purse for the 410's at either track is close to double what Lernerville pays either of the "not so Big 3" total purse.
Not to mention their point funds too....

You don't gamble much do you?

I asked Lucas Oil officials at Sharon a couple years ago about comin to Lernerville and they said they wanted a date but was told no because of a clause that WRG had when they sold Lernerville. BaconBits called me a liar.

Bayko the Worlds Smartest Fan in the Stands will be by later with some pretentious non answer implying how much he really knows compares to how little you do. Im sure Lucas officials called the guy who makes lists to give him the scoop.

Why dont you just share what you know rather some semi-cryptic Ill leave it at that. ? But ok.

I was told the series does, in fact, want The Firecracker, inquired with the new ownership, and were turned down due to the long standing affiliation with Dirt and the affect it would have on The Silver Cup. So yes, they very well just could switch the sanction body of The Firecracker if they wanted to, but the repercussions of such would be pretty big.

The Firecracker isnt promoted and paid for like other sanctioned races. Theres a much different situation there. Thats why it cant just switch.

If the current arrangement went away, they could conceivably make it a Lucas race, but the gate prices would absolutely have to go up quite a bit to be able to pay the same purse.

I have nothing new to add as far as opinion, as I definitely can see both sides of the argument.  As Walt said, Lernerville is definitely in between a rock and a hard place.  Do they eliminate a class to raise purse for others, but remove what makes Lernerville special?  I sure hope not, as I consider Lernerville my home track, and because of it, I love all 3 classes!

But there was some posts here comparing Lernerville's purse to other tracks, so let me throw some numbers around here, and do a real comparison.

Lernerville, as far as I know, as they do not adveretise the purse(I have seen it laying at the pit table), is a total of $9000 (per a 20 car field) with 1300 to win, 200 to start.  I believe the LMs and Mods are similar.  So if you take into account the stocks also, the total purse has got to be close to $30,000.  That figure is probably as high as any track in the country for a regular show.  Knoxville,IA is probably the highest at 40,825 (26500 410s, 10,400 360s, 3925 305s)

Now, to the comparison.  As some tracks start different number of cars, I base these numbers off of a 24 car field for comparison reasons.

(Track, total purse, winner purse, last place)
Lernerville, 9800, 1300, 200
Sharon, 11,400, 3000, 250
(note, most of the purse increase compared to Lernerville is to the winner, among others, 6th and 10th place pay more at Lernerville, but Sharon pays a whole 50 more to start)

Knoxville,IA, 26,500, 4000, 500
Williams Grove, 19,910, 3600, 315
Port Royal, 19,000, 3600, 350
Lincoln, 16,750, 3500, 350
Attica,OH/Fremont,OH, 13,580, 3000, 300
Wayne County,OH,  9470, 2000, 200
Butler,MI, 6500, 1000, 150

As everyone knows the paying of the big 3 is a struggle. You drop anyone of those divisions and your going to see a deep decline in attendance. Sharon dropping the BB mods should give lernerville and mercer all the BB they want. 26 sprint cars on opening night was a great count, in fact the big 3 all had good numbers week 1. Down from week 1, 15 sprints, 7 SLM, +2 BB mods. So those 15 sprints could go where ? The extra money it would cost teams to travel to say Fremont or the Grove on a Friday just doesn't add up. So park them Friday and tow to port royal on Saturday? Your still not coming out ahead. I want to ask what happened to the SLM guys that were there week 1 ? 7, didn't come back for week 2, did they just burn off tires they had ? Why, ha we all understand why, tire kickbacks, they must be very helpful to lernerville. In the end there is 2 tracks that run the BB guys. Mercer is standing on a banana peel. I hope they can make it, but they need cars and fan support. The strong SLM guys in western pa have decided to run special only shows. Dog Hollow I believe I read somewhere had only 5 SLM show up week 1. Yet eriez/stateline have the strongest field of SLM on a weekly basis. What is the pay out compared to lernerville ?

Here's Stateline's Payout.

I dont know how they think boycotting the track is going to magically make the purse go up. If anything it should make the fans boycott the drivers for doing that.
I think the purse should go up for all 3 top divisions but boycotting the track isnt going to make that happen. I would be happy if they raised general admission up a few bucks to put more money in the racers pockets
Last year there were 20 to 30 sprints there on any given Friday so why bitch about it now

They need to raise the general admission and add to the purses. Pick a track and add one of the top three to that tracks weekly card you are paying 20 at least. When Williams Grove has Super Lates to goes to $20. If Port Royal was going to run Big Blocks along with 410s and Super Lates for a week you are paying 20 to see it. Heck, New Jersey tracks charge 20 for a regular show one headlining Mod class. it's 25 if URC or USAC east coast is there.

Imagine the bitching if Lernerville went to $20. The geezers on this board would be even more unbearable than usual

If I knew it was going to the drivers, it would strain my entertainment budget, but I would understand.

My dad drove late models in the early 70's at North Hills, Butler, Mercer, Blanket Hill, and occasionally Tri City. We won the last late model track championship at Blanket Hill.
